The popular game Minecraft: Bedrock Edition is now officially available for Chromebook users whose computers meet the system requirements. While in March some users were able to evaluate the “early access version”, now this option is available to a much larger number of players.
The download option is now available on Google Play for ChromeOS. Users get access to the Minecraft Marketplace, Realms servers and other features related to the popular game world. This is a version with cross-platform support, so Chromebook owners will be able to immerse themselves in the same worlds as owners of other platforms – allowing for cooperative play.
Minimum Requirements:
- ChromeOS 111 OS;
- 64-bit architecture (x86_64, arm64-v8a);
- processor from AMD A4-9120C, Intel Celeron N4000, Intel 3865U, Intel i3-7130U, Intel m3-8100Y, Mediatek Kompanio 500 (MT8183), Qualcomm SC7180 or better;
- RAM: 4GB RAM;
- at least 1GB of memory for installing games, maps, and other files. Overall, Google says the game will be available for Chromebooks released “in the last three years.”
It’s emphasized that pre-existing worlds created by the user previously won’t be available on the Chromebook – you’ll have to build a new world. It also doesn’t matter if a licensed version of Minecraft has been purchased before – the game will have to be purchased again. Moreover, users of the trial version of Minecraft for Chromebook will not be able to “transfer” their worlds to the full version.
You won’t need a Microsoft account to play Minecraft offline, but in other cases you’ll have to use it, for example, to play on any servers.
So far we know about sales in the U.S., where the Chromebook version will cost $19.99 (in a “bundle” with the Android version. If you already have the Android version, the Chromebook version can be added for $13. The Chromebook-compatible version also includes an update pack released this past Wednesday with new features, such as – the ability to ride a camel.
