Description

Been using Xiaohongshu (or ‘Little Red Book’) for a few months now. It’s basically China’s answer to Instagram and Pinterest had a baby – a social platform where people share everything from makeup tutorials to travel tips to food recommendations. Pretty addictive once you get into it, not gonna lie.

The main thing you do is scroll through this endless feed of photos and short videos about literally anything lifestyle-related. You can save stuff you like, follow people with similar interests, and post your own content too. And there’s also this shopping feature where you can buy stuff directly through the app, which is kinda neat but I mostly stick to the content browsing part.

Look, if you’re into lifestyle content and particularly interested in what’s trending in China, you’ll probably dig this app. It’s got this really young, trendy vibe to it. But here’s the thing – you’ll need to be comfortable with Chinese content since that’s like 99% of what’s on there. The community’s super active though, and there’s always something new to discover.

Editor Opinion

So here's my honest take after using Xiaohongshu for a while. I've tried a bunch of social media apps, and this one's got its own unique flavor. The content quality is actually pretty good - way less spam than I expected. What's really cool is how it feels more authentic than Instagram - people aren't afraid to post real reviews and experiences instead of just perfect shots.

But there are some things that bug me. The English support is basically non-existent, so if you don't read Chinese, you're gonna struggle. And sometimes it feels like everyone's trying to sell you something, which gets old fast. That said, it's still my go-to app when I want to check out what's trending in China or find honest reviews about products.
