Comic content is fantastic, however, it's been over a year since the "Restore Purchases" button worked properly. I have to log onto the website, and manually download each issue in order to read them. The app really needs a redesign.
Reviews for 2000 AD Comics and Judge Dredd
← Back to 2000 AD Comics and Judge DreddThe app needs work but the customer service is very good. As of the April update every time I purchase anything it has to be followed up with an email to have the purchase manually unlocked. Do to the money being taken from my account, but the app stating it failed.
I can't scroll in the app anymore. In the main shop menu i just see a couple of rows at the top, but there is no way for me to reach my downloads i bought further down the page. Build is from 1. August 2019. Deleted cache and reinstalled, but no change. App is useless to me in this form.
Took a while (days) for Google to communicate the payment for the subscription to the app. And even after I could access my subscriptions the app has no library function to help me navigate my purchases. It's a pretty awful app. The comics are still great but the app does not belong in 2000 AD. It barely belongs on CFax circa 1980.
They completely changed the app now and my content won't load despite me re downloading it! Edit: Apparently Some do load but others don't. I bought 2 graphic novels one which was Marney The Fox works perfectly. The other was Meltdown Man and it just stays with that loading circle. So I believe some of the content isn't fully ready for this new app.
This is not a rating on Tharg's output which remains as stellar as ever. But this App has problems: 1. Every time I open the app it has 'forgotten' that I'm a subscriber to the prog and the Meg; sometimes to both, sometimes just the Prog. I then have to log out/in several times to get it to recognise my subs. 2. If I read an issue go back to home and try to open another issue it fails to open - the 'read' button is unresponsive. Come on guys - please make this a better experience!
There is an incredible range of content to choose from. However, the app definitely needs some work. It's clunky and slow to respond. You often have to open/shut down/reopen the app a few times in order for your subscriptions and purchases to appear. Reading comics in the app can be slow and unresponsive too.
Just had a new app update, couldn't even finish reading a book because you have to tap the screen to change pages but nothing happens, instead the thumbnails at the bottom keep coming up and you end up jumping several pages, the zooming in is twitchy too. It's a nightmare finding all the books I've purchased too. The previous version was perfect, organised and user friendly. Now, turning the page is just frustrating, especially in landscape mode. £200+ worth of books and a broken/useless app.
Reviewing the September 2024 build: Looks like they are finally putting in some effort to allow their customers to read their comics without wanting to throw their phone/tablet at a wall. The Filter on the Library page is a horrible idea. It doesn't even update when trying to filter. Let us simply choose either Progs, Megs, Graphic Novels from the Library. Instead I'm having to select a random Prog to get to the main Progs page. But even then it's not telling me what I own unless I click it.
I wanted to know Judge Dredd beyond the movies and this was the cheapest deal i could find on the Complete Case Files. Can't resell or properly loan out the comics, but they also don't take up any shelf space. 99% looks great, sometimes the two page spreads don't piece together seamlessly and occasionally a comic will look a bit pants, but I suspect the print quality of the original rag to be the culprit.
As an app this is *almost* zarjaz - great range of comics and graphic novels on sale, often cheaper than other digital stores, and usually cheaper cheaper than the hardcopy counterparts - what holds it back is the lack of a decent library function to quickly and easily access your downloaded content, otherwise it would be an easy 5 stars
I have had problems with this app, problems with updates and realising my subscription has been renewed. I have contacted Rebellion and Caty has been quick to respond. We have exchanged several emails and they have been extremely sympathetic and proactive in response. A new version of the app is being released shortly which will hopefully work better for me on my phone.
Significantly inferior on Android compared to iOS, unfortunately. On the iOS version, there's an unread flag (there isn't here) and you can filter the library to show either "All" (which is the *only* view on Android), "Downloaded", "Purchased" or "Not Purchased" comics / books. It's impossible to tell from opening the Android app what's actually downloaded and what's read and unread. Really disappointing.
*Update* solution, kinda. so the app doesn't function on amazon fire tablets. But when I asked rebellion for tech help they were open and confirmed it doesn't work but have no way around it. However, they did suggest saving the progs from my android phone and transferring them across to the tablet to read. Which does work. I now download a bunch all at once to copy across and read. Not ideal, but it works.
At first it appears to have a better interface and run far more smoothly than the old app. Unfortunately it is no good for reading comics on the go on a tablet without an internet connection. Comics will appear to have downloaded when I'm in the house, but seem to disappear when I try to use the app when I'm out. Very frustrating as I prefer reading on a tablet over a phone.
very poor, have to do forced restarts and issues often can't be read for days after downloading. the comic is brilliant but the app is garbage.
New version makes it very hard to find downloaded items. Had to resort to searching for progs manually in library as downloaded/complete tags either don't work, or take so long they may as well not have worked. With no filters on, it shows all purchases by time rather than say sensibly grouping titles together into folders. If you have a sub, you get pages of 2000AD to go through. Doesn't seem to be any obvious way to search for items on sale through store either.
The last time they updated the app, it came with gremlins that eventually ironed out. This time, they've tried fixing something that didn't even need fixing and broken it instead. On the old version, you could apply filters to separate items that you owned and those that you didn't. Well, that worked quite well, so they've done away with that. Also, you could navigate to each year that the comics were published, which also worked quite well, so they've done away with that too. Overall, poor
I love 2000 AD and I have a huge collection of digital comics in my library. I was previously happy with the app functionality before version 5.0 appeared. Version 5.0.8 looks nicer than before but it's a massive step back in terms of functionality: - The filtering by year and book type does not work - I can't find the comic I was last reading - No "Download All" button that we had in previous versions I will provide detailed feedback to the developer.
Android app keeps crashing and it's completely useless. I have Samsung Galaxy S24+.
