Thank you for offering such great free courses, and I really enjoyed learning on the platform in the past. However, the mobile app needs improvement in terms of frequent crashes, too many Ads, and quizzes marking correct answers wrong due to spelling errors. All these issues had disrupted my learning journey, therefore I am relying on another platform. But fixing these issues would make again Alison a much better experience than before.
Reviews for Alison: Online Education App
← Back to Alison: Online Education AppOverall, the app is great if you want structured courses. However, I find it quite irritating to always have to always tap the screen before I open the app (after clicking the app icon). Some of the courses are too outdated for 2025 and I almost always have to supplement them with external resources. I don't know about others but I personally feel like the alternate player should be the main player because the main one is very bad in all aspects as a video player.
Your app has a very big problem, whenever I leave the app and come back I'm logged out, it doesn't matter if I just left for 5 mins, it's also very picky on what speed of Internet it opens with, it's a very helpful app but frustrating to load or open, I would appreciate if you made it lighter and removed the login issue, otherwise great app but please fix it.
"Learn Anything, Anywhere, Anytime For Free." & " ...the world’s largest free online learning and empowerment platform." Am I missing something? Because my experience compared to nearly every other reviewer couldn't be more different. After doing the short questionnaire following signing up I'm taken to a BLANK list of available courses... the only link available is an advertisement for Allison courses at 20% off... And... that's my experience.
Good:) edited, the courses are still admirable but now it's minor discrepancies like, when I get the answer wrong, it doesn't show me the right responses (before the final exam), like the prior version did. Henceforth, I'm not able to download nor forward my criteria and certifications that were completed to my digital profiles. Finally, the update is a little off putting vs. the prior app installment, I prefer to excel with more content than videos IMO! Ty for reading folks and enjoy.
Great classes. Most are very short and to the point. They are free unless you want/need a diploma or completion certificate. Most of the completion classes are about 1.5 hours and diploma classes start at about 10 hours. Good information if you just want to increase your knowledge of certain areas. I have taken about 20 different classes just to learn a little about everything. Also if your test questions do not load correctly, this app was designed for desktop/laptop applications not mobile.
Alison is the best online educational platform I have found so far, and I have tried quite a few of them. There are so many options. Just about anything You want to learn, Alison has at least 1 if not numerous classes on the subject. Some instructors are better than others, but it costs nothing to try a class. If the instructor puts You to sleep, drop the class and find a better one. The only cost is to get a diploma. There are occasional ads but I don't think they are a burden.
Alison provides a 'taste' of the course material so you can decide whether it is worth your time and money. Don't make the mistake of believing this app replaces paid tuition. There's a vast amount of courses to choose from, you can search by categories, or keywords. Courses selection is taken from a variety of degree options, including (but not limited to) certification and diploma. Highly recommend for prospective students who aren't sure about their career choice(s).
At first I enjoyed learning and trying to pass the tests. Until I got to the video part of the cognitive techniques on anxiety and mindfulness. I have a very hard time understanding what the lady is even saying in the videos. I've tried to watch it several times and she rambles on and whatever she is saying is so hard to understand I can't learn any of those parts. Maybe just stick with the reading it and learning or getting someone who can talk so we can understand them.
I enjoy the learning. I wish there was more description of the subsections and the menu was broken down more. A precursor of what to learn from the subsection would be advantageous to be more prepared for the quizzes and tests. I am currently taking course on property management and wish there was a plan for a diploma instead of paying separately for certificates of several courses. Learning for free is great and paying for the certificates is nice instead of paying for classes.
I LOVE the Alison curriculum. However, I downloaded the app to learn on the go when I don't have my laptop on me, and the app is not user-friendly at all. It's overall buggy, there are multiple intrusive ads, and perhaps the worst part is when I'm doing checkpoints and tests, they don't show me the entire question. I am learning about floristry and during the testing they only show me part of the sentence instead of the full question. It's extremely frustrating.
I love it!! Only thing, I recommend telling students: when typing an answer in the box during your assessment test, be sure to use numeric value or you get the answer wrong even if you typed it out. Ex "four" needs to "4". That is all. Love the friendly encouragement emails on the way to completing your goal. A great value for completing the first and second degree. Thank you so much!!
I would give this three or least a half star. The app is great, found amazing classes. But over time I'm learning, I fallen out of interest from the videos. Like sooo many videos of the intro and what I'm studying. I rather watch two videos and read a article. Than do a test, cause my brain would ask what we read in that article and helps me to engaging a lil more in my courses. Little more reading and less watching videos. Cause we can watch a video through phones and not take in anything.
I couldn't just search available courses, I had to complete a questionnaire so courses could be suggested. The questionnaire requires a specific number of items for each question, but a lot of options didn't suit me. I focused on business and IT items, but it had no courses to suggest based on my selections. My suggestion is to add an option to bypass the questionnaire and search for courses.
The information itself is very helpful, and the courses themselves are truly free. The Certificates all require payment, and the amount of typos and grammatical errors throughout the courses is very high and takes away from the professional feel of the subject matter. Also, test questions get marked as wrong if you enter singular or plural and they happen to want the one you didn't enter, even though your answer is technically correct.
UI is simplified yet there is no tutorial (trial and error). Charts are very difficult to read on mobile - many charts read like you're learning how many syllables a word contains. It's very jarring! There are also quite a few grammatical errors. There are a broad swath of jobs skills to choose from however they appear random and overly basic with no structure. Adding a goals tab would benefit. Slides, thus far, are technical and offer little in the way of example, especially the "how."
Slow all the way around!! It doesn't matter if I use the app or the website! It's constantly lagging and The quality of the videos is hit or miss.. and most of the courses won't help in obtaining an actual career.. while there are a few courses on here that can help with up-skilling.. I wish there were more legitimate course options.. more certifications, etc..
the fact that there are certificates, and diplomas is fantastic for leveling up your skills, building up your resume & stacking up your certificates & diplomas. This is fantastic! It really helped me for getting to the next level in terms of work and career in the medical as well as the tech field also. Although, there are so many different fields that you can learn from so that is a plus for anyone who is new to or exploring Alison. com
Free education is always a winner in my book! The options for courses are endless. I only have 1 issue with the new updated version, my navigation bar is blocking me from exiting ads. And it's quite frustrating because now I have to change my navigation bar settings for just one app. Please check on this.
I really like the course I am taking. The instructor makes some mistakes along the way and does not fully explain things as much as I would like in the videos, so I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars. The course material should be vetted better and edited without errors. Seems more "On the fly" than a lesson plan or scripted presentation.
