Reviews for AlpineQuest Off-Road Explorer

Big problems for Android users. Maps, Tracks and print files etc are stored in Android/data. It seems that Android does not allow easy access to this area. Developers must give users the option to save and use these files in a more accessible location. The track recorder freezes if stationary for more than about 10 minutes, and having "no restrictions" on Android battery saver doesn't solve. Otherwise a good app with many useful features.

This is by far the best mapping app available. You can purchase features one by one so that you only pay for what you need. And it's not a subscription. If this app won't do it, it probably doesn't have anything with maps or navigation to do. I have used this app for terrestrial navigation for years, both in urban areas and wilderness. Even for boating, it can work like a dedicated plotter. And last but not least, the selection of free maps is unsurpassed.

The absolute gold standard of all navigation apps. I've tried most map-apps (and use them daily for work). Alpine Quest is by far the best for the outdoors. It might need some effort finding your way around all the options, but the map selection and versatility of this app is the best. I've used it for years, on quite a few hikes (on-trail and off-trail). Check out the Thunderforest maps.

A very useful app, especially if you plan to walk, climb or cycle outside the UK where paper mapping can leave a lot to be desired compared to OS. This review is based upon the previous version, I have not used " pro" yet in the field but one noticable improvement is that text on the maps, eg Street names or contour numbers, scale when zooming at a level which allows reading them more clearly on a phone, the font size before was very small.

After the demise of the brilliant Viewranger app and its appaling, unusable, replacement (which I won't name). I've tried every mapping app out there and this is the best of the lot by a long way. Maybe even better than Viewranger. For UK, don't think you can import paid OS maps but the free OSM maps for UK are now good enough to make this unnecessary in most situations. Worth every penny for the paid version.

The app is fantastic and very versatile! It has some really great features such as adding maplayers on the go. I can take a snapshot of a paper map, add it to my basemap, and manually and easily georeference it on my phone, all while being in the field. The support team is even better, I have always gotten the help I need. Easiest five stars ever given ✨

It's a good app and the opentopomaps are excellent. On balance though I prefer Locus Maps as it is more flexible (eg distance markers on tracks and routes) and offers a better selection of maps. Also Alpine quest has an annoying habit of drawing a long red line from your current location to the centre of the map you are looking at. I don't know what it's for and I can't find how to turn it off.

been using for years.. maybe like 10... never fails, no bugs, always can count on it to do what i need.. track, create waypoints and have maps available when hiking.

it's a very complex system. I cannot find where to simply press 'stop' at the end of a hike. it comes up 'waiting for signal' ie just stops when mobile screen saver comes on which is irritating.

I am A GIS and remote sensing lecturer in an international University in The Netherlands. This application is a jewel for hikers with functions and features that I did not see in many professional software to my reach. The learning curve is perhaps steeper than other software displaying position and the gpx file, but I can hardly think of a better software for planning, hiking, navigating, mapping, data collection and reporting,.
