Reviews for Amazon Alexa

← Back to Amazon Alexa

I'm beginning to question the value of Alexa in my house. The 5 devices I have work great. It's the app that stinks. First, you took away the ability to set the default shopping list to the app of my choice. I wouldn't mind if the Alexa shopping didn't suck so badly. Second, after the recent update, I can no longer types items into the native shopping list. I press "Add", but nothing happens. If music didn't sound so good on my devices, I would've trashed them all.

It's a bit buggy. With the latest update, I'm unable to use Favorites to navigate to the editable version of my grocery list. I can see the view-only list, but I can't check anything off. If I click on the right angle bracket to try to go to the editable version, nothings happens; I just stay at the view-only list. Clicking the add button doesn't do anything either. I can always go to Lists in the hamburger menu, and click on my grocery list there, so what's the point of Favorites?

used to be good, now is horrible. Is constantly disconnecting devices, responding in other rooms. There is always a delay..if responds at all. Have to ask multiple times to turn on lights. All had Spotify connected, but now Spotify can't find them to add. Horrible all around and very frustrating to navigate , if app even works. Go onto app and will say light is on when off and can't fix it, seems frozen

I expect more from a multi billion $ company. the app is painful to use. Skills keep getting added that I don't want. Removing those skills is a tedious process. If someone plays a song on any device an intrusive banner appears at the bottom that is impossible to get rid of unless you restart the device it was played on. these and many other problems have been reported to Amazon for years but they are never fixed and often get worse.

Alexa sucks. My wife has one in our kitchen and it takes several tries for it to recognize her voice EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Even when it recognizes her voice, the odds that you get the right song are maybe 1 in 3. It's also unnecessarily difficult to turn off Amazon Music, which is contantly trying to sell you a pro plan. I can't wait to throw this stupid thing in the e-waste pile.

Consistently getting worse... things just randomly disconnect or stop working, even though I'm their native apps everything is fine. Constantly moving things around and changing the interface, which imo is not user friendly anyway. This morning I'm left hunting for the "devices" because my heater is disconnected... again. I can't find it. also, when I no longer have a device I should be easily able to get rid of it, but like Beetlejuice it just keeps coming back to haunt me.

Works about half the time, or less. When I open the app, most the time the screen is mostly blank except on the bottom it will show the home, light and three bars. I used to be able to select the 3 bars and get to the menu when this happened, but lately that isn't even working. So today I'm uninstalling and reinstalling to see if that will fit it, but I feel its going to keep happening.

Won't let me add things to my shopping/grocery lists anymore. it just stopped. I can't add in the app, and then when I tell Alexa to add something through my EchoPop, she responds normally, like its been added. Then I went to the grocery store and nothing I had been adding all week had been in my list. Either of them. and its not letting me do it manually. I can't figure out the problem. I have only had this for a few months.

I want to love this app-I love listening to books and kindle unlimited is the way to go for avid readers. However, this app sucks when using listen to book option. Shuts down mid-playback frequently, will freeze up& not allow you to start book until you close& reopen, when it stops& does allow you to restart without rebooting, it takes you back to a random place in the book& there's no easy way to get back where you were. Tons more glitches but I'm out of characters 🤷‍♀️

Lately I wake up every morning with a notification that Alexa/Echo is searching for nearby devices/Echos, but I have that feature turned off for my phone because I only have 1 Dot at home. There are at least 7 at work, and I don't want to connect to all of those. Also, the recommended interests are very limited, sometimes my Echo's alarm won't work, it will respond when we say nothing even close to a wake word, it often can't answer my questions, and will change its volume by itself sometimes.

I'm assuming last update was a fail. I'm having same issues others are mentioning. I can't hook up new echos since moving, and the ones I had already managed to setup keep saying unresponsive in the app even after completing setup. I have to keep setting them up over and over. This is getting ridiculous. The app used to be so user-friendly. Now, it's hard to manage the various devices and find settings for all when the internet does go down. Frustrating for the amount we've spent on our system.

I used yo like the device. But, I'm very disappointed now as it doesn't always answer my questions correctly. Sometimes when I make a request, it doesn't respond, yet the blue light displays indicating it recognizes it's been called. If I ask about current weather conditions, it provides the opposite of what it is. It recently started changing the volume on its own, sometimes so low I can't hear it. I got as part of a promotion. If I needed to replace it, I would NEVER buy Alexa again!

I waited to write this, hoping that it would improve, but it's been 9 months now. If you're going to force us to use this app for our shopping list by making it difficult to use 3rd party apps then you could at least make the shopping list good. I can't even add which store I want to buy an item. Go look at anylist or todoist & copy those. this feature was the only reason I have an echo. if it doesn't work, I'll go find some other company who makes something that does.

Alexa frequently does not follow commands. Plays the wrong stream, suggests a song or stream I didn't ask for, turns on or off the wrong device. It worked much better several months ago. One of my echo plus speakers constantly goes off line. It is close to the router. I have almost every echo device, Fire stick and 2 Fire TVs. I'm so over the Amazon echoes. Won't be buying anything else Alexa. Looking for an alternative.

Literally just updated to the latest version because I haven't used Alexa in a while and I cannot believe how buggy and difficult to use it STILL is. Trying to navigate is atrocious. The organization just isn't there. Not to mention if you want to delete something off one of your "list" you have to mark it completed first... You can't just delete. I also haven't been able to complete my profile or add any interest, because every time it tells me "Something went wrong. Try back later."

I paid good money for these devices and they don't do what I want them to do. When my alarm goes off in the morning, the sound comes in real gently, as I had it set. Then, when I hit (9-minute) Snooze, it waits about 5 seconds and blares the sound at me, forcing me to hit Snooze again. Nine minutes later, the same thing happens when I hit Stop. Also, I have turned off all home screen content but it still keeps showing me ads. It's aggravating. Often it can't find music that's in my library.

Unfortunately the updates have made the app less useful to me. I can no longer see my extensive Audible library under "See all" to select the title I want the echo devices to read. Chapter headings, which used to be accessible from a hamburger menu, have disappeared. And the devices are now intruding on conversations and phone calls without the "wake word." Even worse, when a character has the name "Alexa" or "Ziggy," any narrator's voice activates the devices in the middle of my audiobooks!

Used to work perfectly and control everything I needed it to, but ever since the Alexa+ update, nothing works. Tells me it can't help me with basic things like telling the time, none of the skills work, never does my routines, won't play spotify, and takes at least 30 seconds just to turn the lights on and off if it turns them on and off at all. The update has basically turned my pop into an ugly paperweight.

This app has always been so buggy ever since I got it, but with every update, it's been more and more buggy. It randomly disconnected my Spotify account from it and won't let me reconnect it. It either says "Oops, something went wrong, try again later!" or "This skill doesn't exist anymore", which is really frustrating because I use Spotify quite often, and it sucks that I can't link it anymore for whatever reason. Two stars because I can at least still use the alarms.

complete garbage. when I first got the device, it was very useful for setting timers when cooking, but it no longer plays a sound when the timer is done, which makes it completely useless. There is no way to get it to play a sound anymore. It also used to sync with 3rd party apps, like my shopping list and Amazon decided to eliminate that feature, so it's no longer useful for that. The longer I have it, the more useless it is.
