Smooth experience. Everything I need from my phone is on the screen of the car from Google maps, phone calls, text messages can be read to me, as well as, I can voice reply to those text messages. Additionally, I can listen to audiobooks and many other apps. Android Auto truly makes life easier and safer while in the car.
Reviews for Android Auto
← Back to Android Auto“It worked fine for a while with a wireless adapter, but recently it keeps disconnecting—even when I use a wired connection. It’s so frustrating. I’ve tried resetting, reinstalling, clearing cache and data, and just about everything I can think of. I even bought a new wireless adapter, but it won’t connect at all. The only way it connects is when it’s hardwired, and even then it still disconnects multiple times during my 20-minute drive.”
It was doing OK until recently. Within 2 days, my car won't connect to Android Auto. It doesn't recognize it when plugged in despite charging. I've uninstalled and reinstalled. I've updated both my phone and vehicle apps. I cleared cache and data from both. I even factory reset my vehicle's software. All to no avail. I'm beginning to think it's the app itself.
Update** Been losing connection quite a bit since i got a new Samsung S25 Ultra. works fine wireless but in a wired connection it is constantly disconnecting. Is there an update to fix this?? Dropping to 2 stars until fixed, then I'll gladly give it 5. I gave it a three because when I try to make a call using voice controls it always tells me there are no contacts. This is very frustrating! Other then that I love it.
While this app is mostly awesome, I've been having connection issues in my '25 Toyota Tacoma every single ride even when connected with a USB cable to my Galaxy S24 Ultra. The music will stop for a second or two making me think a call is coming in when really it was a connection loss and my map will stutter at the same time. I've noticed it also connects using WiFi instead of Bluetooth. I didn't have this issue in my '19 Subaru Forester with the same phone. Seems to be a Toyota thing.
I've always had android everything and for the most part its good but at least once in almost every song that plays its like it pauses for a brief moment. It really sounds like a CD that skipped and goes back to playing. I've patiently waited for a fix for years and nothing. I've connected through the USB cord, Bluetooth, and a dongle with no luck.
I use this app daily and suddenly it completely stopped working. I've been able to get it up and working before but not like this. It's completely unresponsive when I give a command to call someone or reply and I'll say "Oops something is wrong" when I try to give a command. I've uninstalled, made sure my permissions and versions were correct but all of this is actually hard to do when I don't have real access to the app. I have settings access, but no app when I go searching/in-store.
When it works, it's great! Sometimes it's a little buggy/won't connect to my phone correctly, but it usually works. 2025 update: a lot of issues connecting to my car. sometimes it won't work for days and I can't figure out why - I never changed any settings. Ive gotten a new car and a new phone in the last year, and the issues persist, so the app is the common denominator. like I said in 2022, it's great when it works! but very frustrating when it doesn't.
App connection very inconsistent. 1. Often cannot get my Android phone to connect via Bluetooth (we have multiple people whose phones are set up to be able to connect). I often have to get far enough away that primary phone is out of range before I can connect my phone and often need to use USB port + cord. 2. App reboots on its own mid-drive approximately 1 in 8 drives and only reconnects automatically about 60% of the time. No GPS or music until I restart the car. When it works, it's great!
When it's working it's seamless. When it's not working, it's horrendous. I drive a 2023 Subaru Crosstrek, and my car doesn't have the wireless connection capability. I don't know if there was a patch that was recently released or something because all of the sudden the app would just shut itself off and turn back on, and it does this so frequently that it renders the whole app useless. I literally can't get through a single 3 minute song without the app crashing at least 4 times.
Great user interface. I love how seamless it is to jump right into what I want displayed and starts playing music. Update: I've been having a recurring issue that i see many other users having with no support for a fix. Music will "stutter" or sound like a scratched cd. I often have to listen to regular radio or take the time to switch to Bluetooth because it gets so bad.
Pixel 8 and Pacifica Hybrid, seem to be playing nice together. Every so often music will glitch for a second, that's definitely not a deal breaker. it does disconnect when I take the phone out while the vehicle is running, and sometimes takes too long to reconnect and asks questions. Annoying that my personal profile is on and it doesn't know what to do, also not a deal breaker, just bothersome. Otherwise, I'm happy with everything else.
Recently, the app refuses to use the car speakers for phone calls. I can make calls and answer calls, technically, but they go to the phone's speaker, and I do not even have the option to use the speaker phone setting. this is both through the usb and Bluetooth. Additionally, if Android Auto is functioning at all, and I'm connected to my Bluetooth earbuds, the phone call still goes through the phone. Admittedly, connectivity through USB had been a bit easier and overall more reliable lately.
If I could keep this app connected in my truck, then it would get five stars. But since I lose connection to my infotainment center anytime I have less than 5G, it's absolutely useless in my area. The only time it's reliable is when I'm on the highway. I've tried multiple different USBC cables, updated my phone, the app, and my infotainment center. And I've tried resetting my data by turning it on and off and by turning on and off airplane mode. Nothing makes it more reliable.
One star for the good concept. One star for the slick user interface. I would love to rate this higher but it crashes without fail, usually multiple times in a drive. It's also very inconvenient that I can't use Google maps on my phone. I *have* to use the Android Auto app, which is especially irritating because the search function voice command doesn't work. Great idea, terrible execution. Edit: Changing to one star because it has stopped working out of the blue. "USB device is not responing."
Not sure what's going on with this app, but all of a sudden it stopped connecting properly, my car doesn't recognize my device, I've tried changing the charging cord, deleting my phone from my car, and disconnecting and reconnecting Bluetooth but nothing works. I'm trying to update the app but that won't work either, I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app which also doesn't work. Not sure if I'm doing something wrong or if it's the app.
Something broke in the most recent update. AA will no longer answer calls through my car audio. It answers the call, but sends it to the phone in private mode and the only thing I can do is unplug the phone to take the call. When I plug it back in, Spotify will not play properly and it skips until I restart my phone. I can make calls, but I cannot answer them. Help!
Works well most of the time. This app, or maybe it's Google maps, does not like city driving (which is usually when I need it most), it gets lost and recalibrates to reroute randomly, even if I'm just sitting at a red light. I also recently have had an issue where it won't let me connect to Android Auto/it disconnects when I put on a podcast on spotify. Update: Now it will randomly disconnect even when playing music. This app gets worse and worse with each update...
When it works, it is good. However, always seems to be a disconnect between my phone and my android auto cable connection. When it disconnects, have to unplug it and plug it back in for it to 'reset' until 30 seconds later, it does it again, and then again, and then again, and [my point exactly]. It continues disconnecting, even though the cord seems fine. Tried other cords too, they're worse than the original one. Is Android Auto aware of Bluetooth and connecting wirelessly?!
It works well when it works - which often it does not. App is a connectivity nightmare with Pixel 9 Pro. Initially it will connect (usually) but then lose connectivity. It does the same when connected via USB. You can tell when it's not going to work as the vehicle indicator in maps flickers. It will disconnect after a couple of minutes and then reconnect. This gets repeated a few times until it refuses to connect at all until the car and phone are restarted.
