free version limited, but good for SOG, Position, distance. pretty good on depth profile too.
Reviews for Argo - #1 Boat Navigation App
← Back to Argo - #1 Boat Navigation AppTried the FREE version of this app and I must say I was impressed. It did warn me that depths were not available which wasn't much of an issue where I was in northern Quebec. The navigation part REALLY helped us find our way back to home base! This is a newer app and they will keep adding more and more pertinent info when they get to it. Keep in mind there are A LOT of bodies of water across the US and Canada, that takes time to input. I'm using Argo on a Pixel 7 Pro without issues.
Download at home, set it all up was working good, got on the water and app just keeps shutting down. Takes a few minutes to open then immediately shuts down.
Easy for first time users. We used it to explore the greater Destin Florida area. Kept us out of trouble all day.
I previously used Navionics for years but after Garmin purchased it the price skyrocketed. I have now been using Argo Navigation for about two months and I am extremely impressed. The Argo app is superior to Navionics in my opinion and the price is much more reasonable. A great little company that knows its business. Good riddance to Greedy Garmin!
Works fine while on shore and with Internet. Once go to the open water and no connection, no tide info, useless.
we just got our first sailboat and used this to get from Toronto to Burlington, it was great! We had some serious fog so we really relied on this for keeping distance from shore. It kept up with us perfectly, gave a heads up for any shallow areas and any potential obstructions, and was amazing! 10/10 recommend
this is a great tool for when I'm at home or work and want to check out a body of water I plan on visiting. It doesn't have total coverage of lakes but gives you an idea of what to expect. I'm sure that with time it will keep improving
I downloaded app, subscribed to "premium" and it worked great inside my house (mobile data). Spent a whole afternoon planning a river voyage. Looked like the perfect solution. As soon as I hit the water, the app went offline, rendering it completely useless. There's supposedly some feature where maps can be downloaded offline, but app was completely unresponsive. THIS and EVERY other app like it make claims based on the "assumption" that connectivity is "never" a factor.
Works as expected. Enjoying the intuitive interface and easy to find features. Seems more features are being added and seeing updates pretty regularly.
This app would be the perfect navigation app for casual boating if you could use it offline. If the maps could be preloaded or downloaded ahead of time I would pay for it. While most of my boating is within cell phone range, there are dead spots and losing signal at the wrong times makes the app's usability limited. PLEASE add offline maps. Even if it's just basic charts.
Nothing like following their roots. It may say is the safest last shortest way there. Just to find out their maps are so far off and out of date that you're going to end up really screwed! Tried to tell me I was in 7 ft water just to find out I was in 8 inches or less of water. Definitely do not trust this app absolute trash! Well I'll tell you guys right now your maps are way off especially in the corpus Christi bay!!!!! I used my phone for the app with my GPS set to precise location.
This app is terribly slow on wifi and basically useless with cell service. I have an android and used this on my sailboat. It is unable to refresh fast enough for depth changes and hazards. I gave it a few months to see if it would improve but it hasn't. The lag isn't just with updating location, all of the features have a lag of a minute or more. Like changing the map settings or setting locations. It is really frustrating. Would not recommend downloading, plenty of other free apps out there.
Argo was not "friendly" at first with regard to my Android device. The folks at Argo have worked tirelessly to fix my issues and, while it is still early, I believe they have. I have a Garmin Echomap and this app is incredibly easier to use than the Garmin. I cannot say enough about the support I have received from Jeff and the folks at Argo. Two words of advice: "Try it."
So far, not reliable. I have installed it twice on my android phone before I was able to get to the setup. I had problems from the start with it taking minutes to load. I then installed it on my android tablet and it sits there for longer on the blue Argo screen. I even purchased the premium subscription to see if it improved, but it didn't. When it did open on my phone, I was greeted with a spam friend request. After updating, it says update failed in top left corner. Not reliable navigation.
Another nice looking nav app. However - did some basic routing and it had me going on the wrong side of a lighthouse and had me going through a breakwater. Think it has potential, but need a little polishing to fix these issues. Also, while trying to define my home port in my profile, although it let me find my marina easily, there didn't appear to be anywhere to save it without backing out and losing the info.
This app could be fantastic but at least on Android I've had a very bad experience with it. Performance got really bad while on the water, and the point that shows my location and direction was almost never accurate, showing me crab walking as though the compass stopped working. Using the track feature at about 5 mph drew lines through islands that I was going around. After we got back to the dock, unloaded the boat and went back for the phone, the location was still catching up.
Lifesaver! GPS function saved us! First time out on the boat, no cell service, no data, no roaming. I had read it won't work without data. Not all true. We were over 10 miles from where we launched, I made a wrong turn then lost! My only hope was this app! It showed our location as we navigated, I could see our destination on the map. Very happy boater! Thanks Argo!
Finally a decent usable free app for boat navigation! There are so many others out there that claim to be free but their functionality is extremely limited or not even usable. Years ago I paid for one that that was supposed to be free for lifetime and it wasn't true. Now it costs over $100 a year. This one gives me very similar functionality with no cost and some enhancements that the other one did not even have. Plus their premium subscription is more than half of other competitors!
worse than useless. it gives you the impression that it might work, but doesn't. clicking on objects sometimes never responds, sometimes comes up a long time later. frequently completely locks up, needs to be restarted. i paid the upgrade, thinking the issue was the data needed to be preloaded, by downloading maps. (paid only) if anything, performance got worse. also got stuck where it wouldn't show the current route, but also wouldn't let me create new because i had a current route.
