Reviews for Arlo Secure: Home Security

not as useful as it used to be. Have to find everything again everytime it updates because it's dramatically different. My life is not about accessing my security camera recordings in some convoluted way. Make it less of a multi step, game- like process, and more of a simple, one stop, quick interface to check/view what I want to review and either take the next action or close out. The upsell offers (constant and annoying) more expensive than competitors, and I don't perceive additional value.

Edit: Now, when in device view, sometimes you don't see any previews. If you see a preview and go to play it, it's either blank or black. With every app update, it seems to get even more glitchy. If you don't get one of their plans, you now get adds to buy one. There is no way to delete more than one recording at a time. I get hundreds of recordings from branches or bushes moving. This app is continually getting worse.

App crashes constantly, forcing you to uninstall the app, restart your device, and reinstall the app. This works sometimes but far from every time. I may as well have purchased fake cameras since I can't view anything on them. Update: Now I can't access my feed / recordings from my Arlo Hub. I reformatted the SD card and restarted the hub. No luck.

updated my review and I changed my stars from 2 to 1. I cannot imagine developing a more useless app and system. I don't want a cloud subscription, so I bought a 256 USB stick. I have 3 cameras. only one ever locally records, even though I have the setting to record entire event, up to 5 minutes, I get 10 and 12 second recording every time. I can access my cameras for a live feed, you think there is any kind of rewind or playback feature to access any events from earlier? nope. 🗑

When it is working properly, it's wonderful. Unfortunately, about half of the time the app doesn't work properly and connect to the cameras. I would hope that this would improve over time, but it hasn't. There is no issue with our internet connection or placement of the cameras. The issue is the instability of the actual app and ability to stream. ***update, it's been about 4 years and there is ZERO improvement to the technology or reliability.

Geofencing mode changes never cause notifications. My device is checked for getting geofencing notifications. I get the notification that geofencing is enabled. The persistent notification is there. It's changing modes because I get motion alerts when I'm away so it armed and it doesn't alert when I arrive home so it disarmed. ----- Lowered my rating to 1 star. Unhelpful solution because it requires a paid subscription. Another example of functionality Arlo is charging for that used to be free.

The app is slow. the camera lags so much that whatever triggered the camera is long gone by the time it connects. The video also stops recording if I'm watching it live. So if I heard someone break in and I want to see it on camera live, it will not record the proof/the person's face. Very frustrating. Can't use the security system without the app and the app sucks.

I bought 12 cameras. batteries phase out quickly and then won't charge. app makes it difficult to use the system without paying for it. videos only record for about 5-8 seconds even when activity is occurring so you can't see the whole sequence of events. tried to call help but dealt with people who i couldn't understand. very dissatisfied. don't waste your money

Setting it up is fairly simple but using it is terrible. Not easy to quickly observe anything currently happening such as a notification of a person, vehicle or animal. We have fast internet service, wifi, and phone service but the app is always slow to switch from one view to another and play clips or live feeds. Not sure whether to blame the app or cameras on poor video quality. Got this alarm security system from Costco plus some extra parts online. Had it for two years. Hated it.

I couldn't hate the update more. I recently recommended these cameras to a friend because the app was so easy to use and set up the schedule and now I will tell him to pick another system. I have spent so many hours trying to figure out how to get all my cameras on an acceptable schedule. I created a custom mode, then learned automations are disabled in Custom Mode. Also, now if you have more than one location, each location requires its own subscription.

Not great and not horrible. I don't know exactly which app update did it, but it was relatively recent. I lost the ability to manually record from the mobile app. I can still manually record if I log into the website. The new Routine implementation is also lacking. My actions show an inactive "Record Video" action but it shows as active on the website. It's sloppy!

The hardware used to be among the better options available, with a terrible app and software and very hit-and-miss on smart alerts. I have paid for the subscription for years (because I want the features) and the activity zones have never once done anything. I still receive motion alerts outside every activity zone on every camera I own, which is more than 10 cameras, I'm not sure the point of it! It's unfortunate, I used to be a fan, but this now feels like a brand on the way out!

Horrible if a device disconnects, mediocre rest of the time. Forcing a user to go through full installation instructions to reconnect the device is nuts. Trying to reconnect a device doesn't work well in the first place, so the rest is adding frustration and aggravating an already bad situation. Other issues include audio and video delays when talking though the device, constant attempts to upsell, and an increasingly cluttered interface (it became harder to mute alerts somehow).

This has got to be one of the biggest failures Arlo has done. I have had their service and cameras since the beginning. This recent UI update had made it to were my system no longer records as it should when on a schedule. Granted if all your cameras are being turned on and off by the mode only it will work. But I have my entire system set to a schedule. To arm and unarm depending on the day, time, and camera location. With any automation added the new UI system is a complete failure.

I really like my Arlo cameras, since I'm a single lady and get spooked sometimes. The only problem is that sometimes they don't take a picture when I really wish they had. I don't understand why that is, although they usually catch most images. Not very clear night images. The images also aren't really sharp enough to see someone's features, but they do help just to see who's out there. The cameras don't need to be charged very often and it's easy to do. Set up was also fairly easy.

the app freezes and doesn't give alerts for a large portion of the time. The cameras don't pick up motion a large majority of the time without me going and waving at them repeatedly. None of the "troubleshooting" options does anything to help. They are trying to force a subscription to make the system work correctly. As a whole, the product is awful and very untrustworthy. I wouldn't trust it with your safety, I know my family doesn't anymore!!!!

Frequently, can not connect to cameras from phone app, especially exterior cameras, and on cold winter days, exterior cameras often don't connect at all. Once connected, picture quality is usually very good, and sound is average, but can not stay connected for very long. Figuring how to locate locally stored video recordings on the phone app is more difficult than it should be.

Pros: Video clarity is awesome. Love the video preview from phone drop down menu. Siren to warn off intruders. Cons: Battery full will last you less than a month and you will have to keep taking them down to recharge. Only records for a short time 1-3 minutes of motion not the whole scene to see what happened before or after. Don't auto connect if wifi goes out. You have to reconnect them one by one from each device. Slow loading (10 solid secs everytime)to play back and to watch live stream.

Edit: While I mildly appreciate the effort, don't buy into their response here. Without a subscription, you can't record. A security camera system that doesn't record is not a security camera, it's a toy. If it's not too late, return your Arlo equipment. They're practically useless without the subscription, and they're charging $20+ per month for more than one device, with regular price increases. There are more affordable, and even free monthly options.

Sucks yet again. The app makes it very hard to manage. It gets stuck in landscape when in portrait. The last version was great because each camera that was off was greyed out with an enable button. Now it looks as of the camera is on but it's not. You have to do multiple clicks again just to turn on/off camera. They also changed the settings from a cog wheel to what now looks like an equalizer. Very confusing as it's always been a cog wheel. The flashlight option is now gone from full screen.
