Reviews for AT&T Secure Family® parent app

← Back to AT&T Secure Family® parent app

Got this app to help keep track of our kids with their new phones. 30 free trial, great no problem. Decided to continue and pay the $7.99/mo to do so. Day 31 we were logged out, and in order to log in again we had to sign up for another 30 day free trial. Day 61 and we just called tech support to find out what was going on because the charge never activated. Not a big deal. EXCEPT there can only be one parent account, all the others must be child accounts. Re: Tech support said otherwise.

With Smart Limits I was able to block phone calls and texts during a certain time period with the exception of a designated list. I can't seem to do that with this app and this app costs more. I could also see what numbers and the times that calls and texts were received. I'm not seeing a way to find that either. Very dissatisfied

I am so disappointed in this app. The location map is completely inaccurate. The feature that allows you to receive a notification when someone arrives at a destination does not work. I might get a notification an hour AFTER my daughter arrives or not at all. I miss the old family map. If it does not improve quickly I will be canceling the service.

The accuracy stinks! You rarely get a location within 1/2 mile of the true location of the person you are pinging. *UPDATE:I was hoping the accuracy would improve when they switched to Secure Family. It did not. At first, when I synced my kids phones it looked pretty good while at home. Once they were away from home, it is horrendous. Right now it is showing one to be .75 miles from where I know they are, and the other is off by over a mile. Totally worthless!

If there was a zero star rating, I would have selected it. With this new app there are many frustrations. There are no longer SETTINGS to not allow automatic locates when opening the app, the content filter, time limits, and location alert panes will not go away from the home page, and, most frustrating is the "internet pause" button is so big and I cannot get rid of it. In addition the battery drain is now much more when running in the background. TERRIBLE update to a perfectly useful app that did NOT need this re-work.

The new update has some bugs. It keeps telling me that I need to allow permissions but u actually allowed all the permissions, turned them off and back on, and it still says the same thing. The home screen says location settings need to be set but when I open the notification by pressing the fix button it says push notifications are disabled. Both are on, and precise location is on. Very frustrating. Thinking of canceling service.

One, I can't make multiple people "parents" even downloading the "parent app" on another phone. Two, the alerts that are set up don't work at the right times, example : I have an alert for when she arrives at school, the alert goes to my phone after I've already made it back to my house from dropping her off. Three, I can change everyone's profile except for my own. It will not save. Four, which is probably my biggest issue, I can not see what is going on in her phone unless I get on it myself.

Not worth it! first downfall-all the family members have to download the app on their phones so you can see their exact location( if u have iphone ur better off with the find my phone app and it's free! Then it only keeps track of their location IF you track their phones otherwise there's no info for you to see (makes no sense if you need to see the kids whereabouts and didn't have time to track them during the day) to top it off, it takes a while to open. Really not worth it!

I have always appreciated this app. It is hard to put into words how poor this major update has been. First, at the moment, the app will not even load. Crashes each time. But before the crashing started, it says location has to be turned on. It is. It says battery saver has to be off. Why? It sends an unbelievable amount of notifications, so I turned them all off, which then defeats the purpose of the app. It is time for a monthly refund AT&T. Update: Oct 10th. Still crashing on start up.

Every few days this app will not locate. I have the phone right in front of me, all settings are correct, but does not locate at all. Will put nothing in history so it is like it is not even attempting to locate. Same for all numbers on account. Have called tech suport several times with issue. No one has yet been able to resolve this sporadic problem. Family Map was much more reliable.

It is locked up. Keeps telling me to update it and it wont let me. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, doesnt work. It's a shame that I have to call and spend 5-10 minutes going thru a menu and then 15-20 minutes waiting to speak to someone to fix an app that I pay for monthly. Oh and the service that it goes with is horrible too.But as usual I'm stuck in a contract, but I wont be anymore when this one runs out!

Not very reliable. Notifications come in about 20 minutes late, kid leaves the house and 20 minutes later I am notified about it. Open the app to check location and it just refreshes, but never updates an accurate location, its always behind on the timing. You will always be 10 steps behind tracking the locations.....therefore, pretty useless.

I use it once and realize that it didn't allow me to anything without downloading an app on my kids phones. What a waste of free use! I didn't even keep it a day maybe an hour because it took me that long to remember and the numbers with names I wanted. it won't save one at of time. I could do so much more with smart limits. I miss it. and if they ever make changes. I won't get a free month to try it because use it for like an hour.

Don't bother! This app should be for free given how inconsistently it "works". It constantly asks me to pair a phone that us already paired. In addition, it does not always block the apps I ask it to block during those time lines. I further learned there is a "bypass" link that shows up on my child's phone where the set restrictions can be overridden. It worked beautifully during the trial period.

It worked great, and I was using it to tack my watch that was stolen along with over $6000 in property from my apartment. And just when I'm about to go after the people who did it, BAM! Stops working. App now tells you to update to Secure Family and won't let you access it, but that app isn't available. And when it does become available, you can't even use it without having the companion app installed on the device you want to track. So if your device is already lost or stolen, you're screwed. F*** you AT&T.

The Secure Family app is simply aggravation. I don't need the control over every aspect my kids' phones. If needed I can shut their internet off through my att. If I wanted to have to go through an app installed on their phone I'd use a free one. One that doesnt mess up their phone in the process. The app won't locate the smart phones by SIM alone which is the sole reason I subscribe. Free apps will locate by gps but, like this app, that's useless if the location is turned off. Also lost the ability to mark frequent locations. Cost may be less, but so far so is the quality.

The update is extremely frustrating. There was no notification that an update was happening and when we needed to track a kid, it wouldn't work because everyone needed an update. Additionally, I have nonstop location search updates on my phone. If I turn off notifications for the app, I won't get any notices. The location search should be a background function. Long time user of the app, but very frustrated with this update roll out. Considering abandoning the app.

We don't have a "companion app" as AT&T states below. I am unable to use the approximate location regardless. They changed the ability to be able to see a location without the exact location. We were happy with having just the vicinity without the exact location. It's not as user friendly anymore. We don't like the changes/updates at all. Some people don't want to share their "exact" location. Some are comfortable with less. But you took that away. We've cancelled the service for that reason.

The last version was so much better. This one doesn't shows me where a kid is at; only a mile or so/or more radius and that's not helpful. Previous app showed buildings, addresses, more streets - like Google map. Don't like this at all. Funny, the marketing said "you asked for upgrades, we have them". Nope, it's a downgrade to 80s computer app green font. Ugh.

The new update is horrible. Even though I wouldn't have exact location with the previous version it always with a range I had a general idea where my kids were at. Now one child's phone won't track at all (even though we have uninstalled and reinstalled the app multiple times) the other child's phone tells me they are active as soon as they pick up their phone. Both phones are set up exactly the same. Really frustrating for teenage drivers.
