***UPDATE****Since this app has updated to a new version, the VPN is no longer free. Was one of the reasons I chose this app. Another thing I've noticed is I ALWAYS have notifications that I need to upgrade, etc. The ads were manageable before the update. Now they are annoying to get every hour that in order to access a feature that I'm getting notified I need, I need to upgrade. ********** I have AVG Free on my laptops at home as well. I wouldn't recommend anything else!! :) Very satisfied!
Reviews for AVG AntiVirus & Security
← Back to AVG AntiVirus & SecurityI am giving the free version 3 stars only because the app will send notifications constantly to do things that require the premium version. I'm not trying to get that serious with it at this time so I'm happy with what it is doing already. The ads don't bother me since it's an antivirus, press scam walk away. Anyway, nice little app but if you're bothered by the constant sales pitch. Beware. I understand that it costs to make and up keep the app, I expected ads. Just not Soo many.
Effective antivirus, but after their pop up advertising started in March 2019, I've uninstalled the app. Ads popping up literally every 10 minutes, stalling apps actively being used, black screens when the ads glitch, and ads blocking my access to answer critical phone calls I have to take in the middle of the night ... enough of that! Essentially they are saying pay to upgrade or accept the harassment. It's abusive, it's ethically questionable, and it's the antithesis of what a company should do
I have used AVG on my pc and smartphone for over a decade. Their protection has never failed on the free version or the paid. Past releases were always good and this version is is not a disappointment. The app is slick, well thought out in it's design and interface. The ad placement and push can be an annoyance. So can the push to upgrade. Though for the service you are receiving, a small price to pay. I will stand by this app and put it against Nortons or McAfee any day of the week.
I've been using AVG for years based on a recommendation from a techie friend. In that time I've seen many changes in their products and their support for customers, sadly not all changes have been good ones. This past week I re downloaded your app from the play store hoping it would be better, less heavy ,0 but nope it's heavy as hell and my phone is slower than before I installed it. Please don't take this as anything other than good advice, lighten your apps and software. It's too heavy...
Not happy with AVG's practice of both charging way too much for an app which also shows ads every five seconds, but also the charge was made without informing me of the cost. And I cannot even look up, and delete or change, the credit card used to charge me. I immediately wanted to cancel and get a refund after discovering the ads, but the web page states that only subscriptions made the day after mine were eligible. How coincidental! The app may work fine, I haven't found out yet, but AVG's business practices have certainly tainted my view of the app with extreme dislike.
My problem is that the FREE version of this trusted security app, will detect "problems". But, in order to do anything about the unspecified "problems", you're redirected to download another paid app version. That is the ONLY way to fix any issues. A free AVG software, is what I had used on my desktop computers for years; before. I would've gave that software 5 stars, as it would define any "issues", and fix the problem by removing whatever was "infected". Or at the very least, contain it.
It gets the job done and whatnot, but my god the ads are horrible, by far some of the worst I've seen. It practically begs you to upgrade to premium every time you open the app. It'll even occasionally send you a notification advertising premium. If it wasn't for that I may have given it a 5 since it's free version is actually quite good. (Thank you for the response. The issue isn't the ads existing, more so the execution in which they are shown. To be blunt; it is very annoying.)
Provides good security. Easy to use. Too easy in my opinion, not enough options to tweak and customize like there is in the desktop version. The one thing that would truely set it apart from the herd,... wait for it.....boom! the sandboxing feature of the desktop version that also promotes the ability to completely isolate an installed app from the rest of your device and network. Like all of the largest social networking and biggest online retailer apps tend to do.
Very happy with AVG so far. I have had several issues that were resolved very easily. I dont like to pay for services that i can figure out solutions for free. But im definitely glad that Ive got some pritection. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX ***Update. Fantastic product. It's easy and it works. For some reason the"continue" button won't let me upgrade. Both products won't let me continue with a purchase. Otherwise this app is really great. Easy to navigate and it absolutely works like a charm.
AVG has been solid for my PCs and the mobile version is just as good. It is free as an add-on bonus if you have a PC package. Doesn't slow anything up at all. Although you may have difficulty getting into "free" wifi that requires you to log onto a web page (as many hotels do). It also doesn't generate a ton of spam mail and phishes (unlike Norton).
Easy to use and gives me peace of mind in this age of endless scammers. Definitely worth $8 a month Australian. The automatic scanning for threats is handy as you don't have to do anything and we will get notified immediately if there is any. For those that use Wi-Fi regularly and use phone banking it is a must have. Wi-Fi is not safe to use without it. Hackers can easily access Wi-Fi networks without protection and take everything you have.
I am so disappointed in this app for my android phone. it literally takes a couple minutes of waiting to open a website, and some of them just time out, even though all permissions are a yes and the settings are all open. For example, the Libby app Will only open if I turn AVG off. That is one I use daily. I'm sorry I paid for a whole year. I will definitely. not renew and may even Uninstal it.
When I first purchased. It did what was advertised. Yet, when it's time to renew, I have been innadated with messages from Google and Avg to update my subscription. They also continually ran my cc withOUT my authorization. Word of advice, if a customer is interested in updating the service you provide, allow them to make that choice for themselves and stop annoying a customer the way you've annoyed me. To be honest, I'm contemplating not renewing it and I'm seriously contemplating not to.
HELP!!! I'M LOCKED OUT OF MY OWN ACCOUNTS!!! I'm fine with a password! I had a stroke a few years ago, and have some short term memory problems! This app requested a two step process to ensure that the access to certain sites is were secure, so it required a patterned pin with a number pin. Unfortunately, I can't remember the pattern, and if I do a factory reset I loose EVERYTHING!!!
I know that with a free app you get ads, but, unfortunately, I've found that on some free scan and clean apps these ads can be intrusive in that, once you get the ad, the only way to get rid of the ad is to install the advertised app, whether you want it, or not. AVG doesn't do that, thankfully, which is why I keep it. along with the fact that it does the job it's supposed to.
Good value for money (I bought the yearly premium) and fairly easy to use. I like the extra features included, such as the web shield, scam protection and wi-fi scanning. Some features can be a little confusing to use, but once they are set up it's fine. It doesn't need to give me so many notifications just to tell me it is running, though. Oh, and it barely uses any battery even if it is running all the time, which is great.
I have the paid version. It's just as pointlessly aggressive as the PC version. You have to have everything on or you are a bad person. It just complains all the time. VPN is fine but it also limits you access to certain websites at all like ign or Amazon. I had McAfee and it was not as intrusive but useless. It is why I switched. Anyway little explanation on why a scan has issues besides having to turn everything on does not help. None of these products are all good.
I was constantly being advised that my phone had been breached with malware and viruses. Whereas, I made numerous of the attempt, and effectively to address the problem, but was unsuccessful. It was frustrating and annoying, until I subscribed with AVG AntiVirus and Security. Since I am with you, and any and all problems are resolved instantly. Immediately. So far, I love this app
This app is trash. It worked well for the first year, but I renewed it, and over the past two weeks, it's terrible. I literally have to turn off the VPN off to use Google Chrome, YouTube, eBay, Amazon, or really any app, including calling someone. So what is the point of the VPN if I can't surf the internet without turning it off? If I could get my money back, I would.
