Reviews for Beelinguapp Language Learning

Not recommended unless you like the convenience. I'm trying to learn Hindi, which this app supports (good!). Unfortunately, the stories are poorly selected. Most children's stories are in the past tense. This isnt useful when you begin learning - you need a variety of tenses. Also, the Hindi speaker does not speak clearly and his recordings have a lot of distracting background noise. Sometimes they even glitch and his voice drops out. Definitely not worth paying for. Also, copy text doesnt work.

This app seemed great until I started learning both Greek and Portuguese on it... Unlike every other language learning app I have ever tried, Beelinguapp does NOT keep your languages separate... My flashcards are a now a mix of random Greek and Portuguese words together in the same stack with no way to separate them out to study each language's words separately. It also seems to show I have made "progress" in a story in Greek that I had only ever read in Portuguese. Pretty much a worthless app!

I liked the concept of the app but the execution was not... First, the screen format was wonky and thin (words & buttons were missing). I tried deleting and redownloading, but it still didn't work. Second, all the art was AI which made the app feel kind of eerie and cheap. Then the subscription... Usually I don't mind an app wanting $ but not having access to near everything? Your learning path, the stories themselves (💀), the option to switch languages, or to find the definition of words... 😬

If you're looking for something free, don't bother with the app if you hate constant ads even in a premium trial. There are constant popups and notifications to get premium and so much blocked content for a free user to pay for premium. As much as the content is nice there are other options out there that are less annoying. There's a whole section on the app to "Help Us" with stories and translations and I'm not even sure why that's a thing too^^

Favorite language learning app. The format being in stories is great, as it gives context to all the words and phrases being used. The fact that the reading speed has multiple speed options is great and that each story and sentence can be listened to at will. Basically, Beelingua puts the control back in my hands, and I love it! My only critique is that some features like the selective translation and the selective audio playback are a little buggy.

Great idea, terrible app. I have yet to find a single story for learning Spanish. (idk why, it's not like it's an obscure language!) Worse, you can't even search by language! You can search by genre and difficulty, and you save your languages in the settings, but it apparently means nothing. You have to individually click each story, (which can trigger an ad) to see if it's available in your language (and it's not). If you're trying to improve your English, it's great. Anything else, PASS.

Great idea, but very poorly executed (at least for Portuguese). For the handful of stories I went through, I found there was at least some audio issues. Some of the text would not match exactly what the reader was saying. But the most frustrating part of the experience is the volume of the recording would be extremely low forcing me to turn up the volume all the way. Then at some transition between sentences, there would be a very long and disruptive sound (almost like static) and would scare me

It's perfect for my reading studies. I'm trying to incorporate a natural voice when reading Hangul (Korean), hanzi (Mandarin), and the mixed alphabet of Japanese. It's greatly improved my literacy rate and I've began to easily recognize so many sounds. It's also improved my memory rate on the characters. Overall, it was what I was looking for when I downloaded the app. The only feature I wish it had was a romanization option.

I would've given this app a 4-star rating if it wasn't for all the premium-pushing. I liked that I could change the base language and ladder two languages; I can't do that now, it's paid. I liked that the news was always free; that's no longer the case, many of them are paid. I never really cared about Premium because I only wanted to read in the target language. I still do, and I understand the need to make money, but all this premium-pushing is only pushing me away from the app.

Downloaded this app a long time ago and gave it five stars. Unfortunately I'm coming back to remove two stars because they've seriously cut down on free content. Most books are premium, including many that I have previously read. Now what books are available don't appeal to me at all (why would an American want to read about France in Japanese?), and most are above my level. It's reached the point where the app kills my motivation to learn at all, by forcing me into books I can't comprehend.
