great in theory but the optimization doesn't work on Pixel 8 pro - I can't select anything at the top or bottom of my phone screen so it's worthless to me
Reviews for Beli
← Back to BeliApp sucks, trying to just look around and browse for places in a city is impossible. you have to unlock features by doing reviews. I like the idea, but the implementation is terrible, like a trendy version of yelp but imagine no map, no suggestions when you type in a city or very hard to find. Just disappointing.
So far, really annoying that I can't get past the registration portion & just get on with the app without "inviting friends" first. I don't have time for all that right now & just wanted to get on with view the restaurants, but I have time to add this review. Bummer to write this review but you need to remove that hard stop.
interesting app, but the UI is kind of ugly and doesn't make it feel exciting to rate places, it also makes it hard to see what other people rate things and find recommendations from friends. as much as I hate to say it they need to letterboxd the UI a little bit more, add dark mode, remove the leaderboard from the bottom (I don't really care about that specifically). would be cool to have some rotating "discover" type categories, like places that have gotten good reviews recently, etc
I dislike the idea of ranking restaurants in this way, would prefer the app with no ranking just reviewing with stars or similar. Prefer Google's reviewing system much more. anything different about this app seems worse than every app and tool that's come before it. Foursquare was much more fun and ethical in its social impact. dislike comparing dissimilar places, needs work. google already collects the right data points.
Edit: they fixed my UI issue in less than a day. That is fantastic! Giving them the 🌟 that they deserve! ----- Top bar is broken on Android (pixel 7). It is too high up and cannot be clicked on.
I really do love this app. I just take a little issue with the ranking. There are some restaurants I would definitely put over others but they are further below on my list. I am still learning, but this is a foodie's dream app, truly!!
I just received the invite to use this app. I like it, but do have a suggestion of something I'd like to see. I live in a very large metro area so the only restaurants are in the largest city. Is there a way we can add restaurants to the list? I've looked, but couldn't find a way to do it.
Great app to catalog restautants, the more you use it the better it gets. The ranking sistem is an awesome idea and it has a great interface. It still needs some work in order to help you find new restaurants. The map sometimes only shows less than 3 restaurants per city. If it had a better list of recomendations near you or the map it would be great. Still I love to use it and have recomend it to a lot of friends, as you need to do that in order to unlock all of its functions but is fun.
Mixed bag at best. Tags are almost useless. Ranking a great pizza restaurant against a great taco stand against a Michelin star Thai restaurant in the same list misses the nuance of why you would pick either place. But by far the worst thing is the ponzi aspect of having to invite friends to get useful features. You're an app built for foodie. Try to make it a little less like Amway.
This app has the potential to be my favourite app ever made. It showed me my new favourite restaurant. But it's Reccomendation functionality is broken (shows nothing with any filters), so I can't use it for it's core functionality most of the time. Need to be able to read the reviews of other people who went there (copy letterboxd) else I have to use Google reviews. Need to be able to see a list of ALL restaurants in a region, not just 'recommended' ones.
Love the idea and the execution so far. I tried yelp and Google maps to keep track of my favorite restaurants but they each lacked things which was frustrating The only thing I wish Beli would change is instead of just "Restaurant" as a category change it to "Breakfast/Brunch Restaurant" and "Lunch/Dinner" or something along those lines - it's hard to compare a place that only serves breakfast food to e.g. a late night barbecue place
Great app, good U/I, pretty responsive but I have a couple of things I wish they did: 1. Easier ability to invite people onto it. Right now you can only text message an invite. Wish I could email, tweet, and have more options instead of just text message 2. Notifications for available reservations on wishlisted restaurants should be off by default. I feel like this probably contributes to heavy battery use from the app. Also most users like me are probably wishlisting restaurants far away
This is the app I've wanted since 2017. Quick and easy way to add restaurants, creative yet practical way to rate them, and has a well-integrated social component. I think there's a lot of excellent potential and hits the 90% of what I've always wanted in a restaurant tracking app. My main feature request is to allow for different rating lanes, so coffee shops, dessert shops, and bars are not rated against restaurants!
A foodie friend recommended it. I want to love it, but don't see how it differs enough from Google Maps and I don't have enough friends using this to make the switch worth it. hard to convince them too if I'm unconvinced. Setup is a chore. Would be much nicer if I could import existing my Google Maps lists & reviews as "been" vs only importing lists I want to go to. (If there IS a way, I couldn't figure it out.) Also, the app isn't loading on 1/26/25 - hopefully just a temporary server issue.
EDIT: Still a great concept, but new updates have made the app so buggy it's almost unusable. ORIGINAL: 3 STARS . The app lags, and several restaurants won't let me add them to a list when I click on them. The screen turns grey and I get a loading wheel for a few seconds, then it returns to the search without adding the restaurant to my list or ranking it. Also no way to add locations that don't appear in search. If either/both of these get fixed the app will easily be a 5 ⭐ for me!
Does what it should – some QoL changes that weren't out at the start:
1) Couldn't easily see your notes on restaurants when comparing for placement.
2) No custom labels (i.e. you can't categorize by specific things like "Chinese" or "Vegetarian", just general ones like "Restaurant" or "Cafe".
3) Can't add places to "Want to try" list (at least for android).
They implemented (1) recently (thank you!) Would be 5 stars if (2) and (3) were implemented.
Overall this app is great for sharing and posting about food for both yourself and your friends! A few minor things that bother me is the automatic grading of restaurants and some restaurants I go to not being shown. The automatic grading system makes some restaurants seem worse than they are, or sometimes better than they are. As for the locations, I wish I was able to just put down the address and name the restaurant, instead of hoping that the restaurant I went to is in the search list.
I love this app, great way to keep track of where you've been and give recommendations to friends/family. One improvement I would really like to have is a tag to filter by meal (breakfast, lunch, dinner). Would be useful, especially with spots that have different venues depending on the day. I'd prefer to not have to mark a place I've gone for breakfast as a coffee shop if they serve lunch, for example.
Recommendation maps are unusable. The "Your Lists" tab doesn't work correctly. The filters almost never load. And loading the map view is even worse. It's often blank, or it gets stuck on the restaurants it showed when you first opened the map and it won't update. Not useful when I'm trying to browse new restaurants to try nearby.
