So I’ve been using BeReal for about 3 months now, and it’s basically an anti-Instagram if you ask me. Instead of posting perfectly staged photos whenever you want, everyone gets a random notification once a day to take a photo – and you’ve only got 2 minutes to do it. No filters, no fancy editing, just real life stuff. Pretty refreshing, honestly.
The way it works is pretty simple. When you get that notification (they call it the BeReal moment), you gotta snap a pic using both your front and back cameras at the same time. That’s right – you’re getting your face AND whatever you’re looking at in one shot. You can see what your friends are up to, comment on their posts, and react with these things called RealMojis – which are basically selfie reactions instead of regular emojis. Kind of genius.
Look, if you’re tired of all the fake perfect lives on social media, you’ll probably dig this. It’s not for everyone – sometimes you’ll catch people in super boring moments like working or watching TV. But that’s kinda the point. Been really fun seeing my friends’ actual daily lives instead of just their highlight reels. And yeah, sometimes I’m late to post (oops), but it’s way less pressure than other social apps I’ve tried.
