Tried a few similar app's but all of them didn't have the range of options that I required. Then stumbled across this one, only been using a short while but very impressed as It has nearly all of the options that I wanted. The ability to share would be the icing on the cake as far as I am concerned.

I don't get how you use the "opened" feature. If I have two same packages, I set it to two packages, but when I open one, it let's me just take one complete package out, not just half of the package... Does that mean that if I have more packages of the same item, I need to add the item multiple times for the "opened" feature to be useful? Also scanning of the barcodes would be way easier to add the items to the list, just a suggestion. Once these are fixed I will be more than happy to buy the pro

Great app and has taken over a previous one that I used which was quite basic. This one has more functions such as having a shopping list, showing items as opened and pre-filling information from previously entered items. It isn't completely a slick platform hence not the complete 5 stars. I wish it were a little less cluttered on the screen and it has a weird thing where the expiry date is displayed as one day less than you enter.

Much promise but some niggles currently let it down. Items are easy to add and I love the fact you can insert your own photograph. It's also great that it autocompletes so if you add something you've added before, it will offer you the previous entry including the photograph used - obv you can override and insert a new one. Nice display with a small photo of each item shown in the list and the ability to collapse/expand different categories - a shame you can only view by category, NOT by storage, so if for example I wanted to view all the things in my fridge, I couldn't. Niggles are some of the AI included which would perhaps be better left out. 1) You have the option of setting a Best Before date on each item or leaving it blank - you can set the number of days in the settings, so I set mine to 90 as I mainly use it for frozen meals and I try to eat them within 3 months. I thought it would be easier to have it automatically set the 90 days and for items I DON'T want it set, I can remove the date when I first add the item. HOWEVER, every time you edit an item, if it doesn't have a BB date on it, the AI jumps in and sets it - in the end I disabled the option and I simply set it manually now. 2) "Opened" - ARRRGGGHHH - once set, you CANNOT remove it and it's a right pain. e.g. I add 3 packs of minced beef - consume 1 pack, suddenly the other 2 packs are now marked as OPEN. There is a small checkbox labelled "open individually" which may help stop this, haven't tried yet, but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE allow people to turn off the "opened" setting especially as the AI is setting it in the first place according to sometimes non-obvious rules. 3) Adding to existing "consumed" item. If I have 3 packs of beef, I use 1, it shows as 2/3 remaining. I now buy another pack - I CANNOT set the 2 to 3 - all I can change is the 3 for some weird reason - it now shows as 2/4 remaining when I actually have 3 packs of course. Nice to haves Quantity isn't enough - if I store 4 packs of 500g of Minced Beef, then I'd like to be able to enter both "4" and "500g" somewhere. Currently I'm putting it all in the title, but that's a faff esp as you include g's in the Units column, but that doesn't make sense with your consume AI. e.g. Let's say I enter it as 1500g of Beef and then consume one pack - I have to hit the little + sign 499 times to tell the AI I'm down to 1000g remaining - errr no lol I used to use Food Checklist, but thought I'd give this one a whirl - it's definitely got promise - if the niggles above can be sorted it could end up being the best on the market in this niche.

After some time of using the app, one of our apps started crashing frequently and our inventories got desynchronised. We disconnected one of them, cleared all data locally, and went through the invite/join cycle again. This moved all items to Uncategorized, some previously consumed items reappeared on one of the devices. So we lost some data and are still not in sync. This is plain unreliable, uninstalling.

Very nice app! Works exactly as expected and helps me to manage my day by day food stock as well as my emergency stock. One thing I'd like to see is a minimum/maximum stock level per item. This would help to organize the shopping list when you buy things as batches. And a way to access the online data via standard web browser would be the icing on the cake.

It's a good app for keeping track of your food, prevents waste and also makes it easy to check what's available in the fridge without even having to look there. I still don't have all the staples registered because i've had it for barely a couple weeks, but i definitely enjoy using it, being extremely helpful with keeping track of items that go bad fast.

Incredibly useful! I've now managed to avoid my food going off regularly. I was always forgetting about food in my fridge and It would go off so I couldn't eat it. With this app I can add reminders for when my food goes off and it really helps. One thing I would like to add is that it would be cool if you could have digital receipts so you know how much you've spent in one go. Edit: after using it a while I've realised that once you've saved your expiry date, you can't select when you open it.

This is very helpful! There are a couple of things that could be improved. (1) When I put in a quantity of 1000ml, it strangely converts the quantity to 1.000mL. (2) When I consume part of something on, say, Monday, it will correctly say, on Weds, that it has been open for 2 days. But when I then consume some more on Weds, 'open' reverts to 0 days.

I've just started to use this app and it's going well so far. My main issues are around how you select the best before date, it would be much easier to hit the calendar icon and then month, so you get a pop up calendar to select your date from. When you're recording consumption, it would be much easier to say you'd used half, 2/3rds, etc, or be able to overwrite the quantity instead of scrolling. It would also be very useful to record multiples of items.

Good, easy to use customisable inventory with a linked shopping list. I'm already using a different shopping list app and it's better than the one integrated in Best Before for one main reason - it lists the items ordered by category so that when you're in the store everything on one aisle is together. Seems strange that BB doesn't do this as it seems like an obvious feature and the categories are already there in the app. Add this and it's a 5 star app 🙂

Thanks for the great app! Very well thought through with many useful functions. But there should be a seperate number of days one can set for items that are opened. So that when you open an item the expiration date change. Also, the notification days after opening you set doesn't carry over when you add a similar product (with the autocomplete when you type it in)

Just what I needed! 😃 The app has everything I was looking for. The ads are light and non-intrusive, but I kinda wished for some "pro" version, and found it in settings and not even expensive, and got it straight away. Now, I have only installed the app now, so this is just my first impression, but I am already happy.

The reason I keep coming back to Best Before is speed of entry. I've tried lots of different apps with better interfaces, more features, etc. but they were all too cumbersome to use and I was too lazy to keep using them. Best Before has custom categories, locations and units, the ability to "open" (partially consume) products, and a super quick template-based entry mechanism that makes it quick and easy to add products after shopping and remove as I use or consume them.

This app has, apparently, just been updated. Although the presentation has improved and is welcome, I have found two very unwelcome "bugs" - the search mechanism is not working correctly and when entering an item, there appears to be no way to navigate to a specific preferred photo folder. I have reported these issues to the developer and they are awaiting resolution. I have tested the app post-resolution and all is now OK.

I've tried 19 of these apps and this is by far the best. It's easily customisable and is very simple to use. I'm using it to track exactly where, in my two freezers, I've stored my foods. The only improvement I could wish for is a minimum stock level that alutomatically adds the items to the shopping list as they are consumed.

No more pantry ghost food, I now have a complete list of absolutely all my hardly seen pantry/ fridge products that I would otherwise forget exists! the idea that I can be notified several days BEFORE my food expires is a great peace of mind! Gives me time to think up recipes to use it up. Also entering data into the app isn't that bad, take a CLEAR PHOTO of the barcode and most of the time the app will find the item! If it can't then manually enter it, wish I could pay to remove ads.

This seems like an app with a lot of potential. I was not able to create an account and tried some of the trouble shooting steps in the comments. They did not work for me. The other downfall is the barcode scanner is actually a picture you take rather than a scan of the UPC. I fear this would take up too much room on my phone in the end. Keep developing and you'll have a 5 star app soon! Thanks!

I downloaded this app today. Overall it is the best app of the ones that I have tested. Positives so far are that the database for food items seems to be quiet extensive. I have-not had to enter a product name manually yet. Downsides, I would prefer that the app use barcode scanner instead of a picture, or have the option to choose between the two. A scanner requires one action on my part and is nearly instant, whereas a picture requires at least 3 actions from me. The extra 4-5 seconds to take a picture, resize and save, add up quickly and the inventory intake process begins to feel tedious. Also, best buy or expiration date scanner/picture reader would be delightful, and reduce entry time. And yes, both because some foods come with a barcode and others with a printed date.Lastly, it would be helpful to be able to add a product category when I am in the entry window for a product. As is, I have to save the product entry, exit, create a product category, and then open the product entry and add it to the product category. Ideally each product entry would require no more than 3 clicks from me, and take no longer than 3 seconds, to get the product entry created with expiration and category. The app should be nearly non-existent to the user in their inventory process, meaning it does its job so well that the user can focus on the inventory project instead of the inventory tool. As I stated, this is the best food inventory app that I have tested. The limitations of the app are common across the board for food inventory apps. However, I think that this app is the best candidate to slim down the inventory process and make itself super sleek for the user. ***Update: Option to set a date for the default "purchase date", or remove. Ninety-nine percent of the products I will enter were not purchased the same day as entry. Or option to not populate that field. Same for expiration date field, ability to manually set an auto populate default expire date for items entered, and that date would not change on entered times if default is manually changed.

Great app for keeping up with what's in your pantry, fridge, freezer, and more. It lets you know when food is about to expire and when food that has been open is going bad. You have to manually type in each item. For this, I gave it a 4 star. It really needs a scan feature to make adding items much faster.
