It is a great way to do therapy when you can not force yourself your get out of your house to do it. I would definitely recommend it to anyone struggling to find the will to get the therapy they need. It can feel a little awkward doing it over video chat and holding your phone up for an hour for sessions can get a little annoying. Over all it is very worth the small annoyances to have access to a therapist from home.
Reviews for BetterHelp – Therapy
So I do not recommend this app if you are low income. I was considering using Better Help because where I live there are not many options that take my health insurance. You go thru a detailed questionnaire. It was very thorough. But then they get to pricing. I was disappointed to learn they don't take health insurance! They wanted to charge $65 per week regardless if you see a therapist or not. Unacceptable. That's over $200/month. They only offered me 10% financial aid. It's not affordable!
No. It's been 2 weeks and they wanna charge me more in a few weeks and I haven't had a session because of reschedule. I was charged 234 on top of that and they wanna charge more every 4 weeks???? Whoa. I thought I paid for like a few months when they charged me. What was that amount for then? I expected more communication. I personally don't see the worth. Plus that app is buggy. 👋
The option to have therapy online/through my phone and it being convenient to reach my therapist has definitely helped with my anxiety. There's alot of convenience as well as to getting to pick your therapist based on their bio, and what you're comfortable with, and also being able to have multiple types of communication. I do enjoy they Journal aspect as well, and gives me a daily assignment to look forward to without having to force myself to come up with a prompt that would take forever.
So you have to sign up for an allotted time, then you can try to schedule with a counselor. They seem to be booking out at least a week, so consider that when taking on the fee. I did 4 week, have yet to talk to someone on week 3.. had an appointment tonight, but between the app and the website I wasn't able to get connected on any of my devices for over 30 minutes. When I canceled my subscription, it just stopped the auto re subscription. But did not reimburse me for the time I have left.
There is better help. This is not it. I went through weeks of therapy only to be dropped by my therapist with no reason or warning. The price is also very high. I would much rather use the hundreds spent here to find a better solution. One that may even get covered by insurance. If you are debating getting this app, ok it can be a short term help in a crisis. But if you have something that is difficult and requires work, you will way over pay. You get ONE meeting a week. Policies are not same.
Haven't even been with a therapist yet but the app is broken. The journal part is so buggy, it's basically useless. You type more than about 2 lines and then it goes all wonky with spacing, and jumping around and moving. I can't believe this was allowed out and not qc'd. It's a great idea and I'd totally use it if I could... but can't, so shan't.
My current therapist has been great! Took a few before I found a match-expected. And the app is becoming more annoying to work with. Seems like they make it difficult to schedule for the current week but they will charge you regardless of if you get a session on the schedule, so make them in advance. The notifications don't seem to work. But it constantly pops up to leave reviews. So here ya go. Take full advantage of the group sessions! Might go back to Cerebral b/c of app annoyance. 🤷♀️
The app no longer functions on android. I keep getting an error saying "cannot conncet to server" i've gone through all the troubleshooting steps including turning off my phone for 10 minutes and trying again and uninstalling and reinstalling the app. It works on my ipad though but i dont always have my ipad on me. I would love for this to get fixed. Otherwise it's good!
I paid for "unlimited" appointments, but they're only 30 minutes long, and you can't schedule more than one in advance. You pay whether you can actually get an appointment or not. My first therapist completely missed our second appointment, without even a follow-up, so I switched to another once. That therapist cancelled a few hours before our third appointment. Not worth $260/ month.
