Reviews for Bikemap: Cycling Tracker & GPS

← Back to Bikemap: Cycling Tracker & GPS

The app itself could be ok, but the extreme unreliability of the service makes it useless. Tracking has to be reliable, simple as that. If the background service is not reliable, the app is useless. I even registered as a premium user, until I found out how unreliable it is.

(free version) Has found some interesting routes I wouldn't have known. The different route types is interesting in theory. Latest version crashed at one point when comparing routes. I see no legend explaining what different green lines mean: map seems to highlight doorzone bike lane on Washington in Philly, but not the parking protected bike lane. Hard to find street names, especially with heat map on.

Great features. good design and overall very easy to use. Just a little pricey for the extra features.

Really disappointed after using this app. Experience was awful. First time it navigated me in deep woods where there wasn't even real road and I picked "smooth ride" option. Okey, gave second chance for this app this time it showed roads that literally don't exist, got a lot of dead ends also again got in the woods where there was a river in the middle of the road. Also navigated to milatary training grounds where I had to turn around and go back 20km. It's better to use Google maps than this.

absolute trash. entering positions doesnt work. navigation is extremely bad. google maps has better navigation for riding a bike. this app drains power like crazy. i suspect malware

I've already unsubscribed. I can see cycle paths on the maps but bikemap clearly can't. Irony! The routes use busy city and suburban streets rather than dedicated bike paths. Even bike paths running adjacent to the route are ignored. I tried again, using the feature to choose only cycle paths but this resulted in ridiculously circuitous routes diverting up and down side and busy main streets, adding more than 3km to a 20km cycle path ride and STILL NOT USING CYCLE PATHS! 🤯

1) Wanted to customize a specific trail. App insists on starting at current location (home) as opposed to letting me designate desired target to plan route. No way to preview. 2) Took them several days to provide a non-response to a simple Q. 3) Battery drain, just trying this thing out, = unreal. 4) Copy + paste "replies" here, ridiculous. 5) Tried the nav around my 'hood; good thing I know the area. So abysmal, quit trial early. Found Komoot; delights across the board.

The app should show have different colors showing the type of the cycling lane : path /gravel /road and most important if the lane is separated from traffic or not. Cycling on a freeway suxx even if it's allowed. Alternately I ended up on a forbidden bridge because no sign was mentioned in the app. The compass should also be lockable, with the north pointing upward.

Picked this app for browser route planning but the experience was frustrating. Navigation lags, and voice directions are delayed to the point of missing turns. It sent me through a creek with ankle-deep roots, resulting in tire puncture, on an ebike route and then to a fenced-off for two years trail under Second Narrows Bridge. Tried other apps after and had no issues. Glad there's a free trial because this would be disappointing to pay for.

good basic route planning, terrible navigation. I like the available routes for where I was visiting. Using premium app with turn-by-turn directions, it announced turns too early, too late or not at all. the map doesn't recenter if I missed a turn, touched the screen or phone. no option to recenter, had to restart app. app would often tell me to do u-turns when the route was going straight. it would freeze on one turn and could not be reset. navigation was just terrible on my pixel 9 pro.

It's not a bad app. I like the fact that it tells me the route and time I've biked. One thing I don't like is unable to actually stop or pause the recording of the ride. The clock is always ticking until you actually END the recording. I often stop to eat or have a beer, but I'm not finished riding. There is a button to stop recording, but timer does not stop.

i was looking for an app that helps me navigate along the most bike friendly route from point a to point b in my city. this app does not do that. it only has pre-set suggested routes for your area - it doesn't allow you to navigate to wherever you want to be. i guess it's for people looking to kill time by biking around town on random routes. im not even sure why it has a gps function. i guess it's trying to be an all trails for city bikers. i just think it's stupid.

This app is terrible, for a lot of reasons: 1. Routes chosen were unsafe - they went against traffic or in areas without a bike path/lane. 2. When on "balanced" mode, which is supposed to pick a route based on a mix of how direct the route is and ease of riding, it still picks a route that is both longer and has a steeper gradient than alternative routes. 3. Battery drain is very high - phone battery was completely drained on a 1.5 hour ride. 4. GPS often was not very accurate and lagged a lot. Edit - To the developer - I was cycling in Washington DC. Will not use again as it put me in unsafe situations.

It couldn't provide a route that I could take without having to upgrade to premium. They don't seem to update their maps because the road they want me to take ceased to exist around a month ago. I never used the app because I couldn't figure out how to reroute or update the road's status (in the developer's defense I spent less than 3 minutes trying). That being said, I gave it 3 stars because I never used it, but also had to say no to upgrading every time I tried to find a work around.

After about two months of use it forced me to pay a monthly subscription to continue using the app in any way - i hoped that paying would allow me more user friendly options and make the app a bit more usable, but that hasn't really happened. Map is unable to reroute when needed, voice navigation is spotty, and you need to know exact address for destinations. A true waste of money and time.

Horrible routing algorithm. I was given a route ETA 33 minutes, marked as both the fastest and most balanced. I was instead directed up a 60 foot incline over a 200 foot road, then up the highest peak in San Francisco. I walked my bike up a 55+ degree incline, and barely had any relief getting down due to the terribly timed turns. Lacked bike routes for half the trip. Based on this route alone, I've lost faith in the app. It is great for tracking routes, but DO NOT let it navigate for you.

Overall the app has a poor user experience, and seems unstable. It crashed twice in the first hour of use and bugged out when routing. Pressing 'back' closes the app more often than not; it really should be set to undo the last user action. You seem unable to plan routes while your phone is in motion, which means that you can't do much while on a bus or in a car while someone else drives. There are workarounds to this but it's extra steps and it's annoying. Price is different b/t website/app.

Routes/roads are highlighted but there are no trail names, no labels, no markers, no indication of start/end points, and no way to click on an individual trail to see it on its own. Not sure how this app is meant to be used, or if these are some the many "features" of the paid version. The free version of this app doesn't appear to have any functionality. I'm not going to pay for an app if I can't even try it's basic functions.

App is basically useless without a subscription, and that subscription is a huge waste of money. The app does not allow any privacy controls for recorded routes - they are all public. Want to record routes to/from your home? The whole world knows where you live now! Additionally, the GPS is laggy and innacurate. The map regularly shows my position in the middle of buildings, yards, etc. while being on the road. (This is not an issue with my phone because other mapping/tracking apps work fine)

Requires subscribing to the 7 day premium trial and connecting your google payment to it in order to even begin using the app. I haven't even started to use it, the app might be great and the subscription might be worth the cost. I hate the monthly bill vs just buying the software for one price. I expect some meaningless formulaic corp response, "We're sorry to hear about your experience, please email us more info blah blah blah" and no actual change to the way they set things up.
