So here's my take on Blue Iris. I've tried out a bunch of home security apps and this one is pretty solid overall. The ability to control everything from one app is super convenient, and I like that it uses a secure connection instead of exposing my cameras directly. The push alerts are handy too. But the interface could be a little more polished, and I did have some trouble getting it set up at first. Not a deal breaker, but something to be aware of. Still, if you're a Blue Iris user, this is a pretty good companion app.

  • Lets you manage multiple Blue Iris installations in one place
  • Convenient controls for schedules, profiles, and traffic light icon

Cons

  • Can be tricky to set up at first if you're not tech savvy
  • Interface is a bit dated and clunky in spots
  • Doesn't work if you don't have Blue Iris PC software

Description

Been using Blue Iris for a couple months now. It’s basically a client app for the Blue Iris PC software – lets you manage your home camera network right from your phone. Pretty solid if you’re into home security and monitoring.

Here’s what you can do: you can control the traffic light icon, switch between schedules and profiles, and get push alerts when a camera is triggered or there’s a critical status. It’s got a secure connection to your PC so you don’t have to open up individual cameras to the internet. Took me a little bit to figure out how to set it all up, but once I did it’s been pretty convenient.

Look, if you’re into home security apps and have the Blue Iris software, you’ll probably like this. It’s not perfect – the interface can be a little clunky at times – but overall it does what it’s supposed to. Worth checking out if you need a way to manage your cameras on the go.
