Reviews for Boat Beacon - AIS Navigation

← Back to Boat Beacon - AIS Navigation

Doesn't show boats on smaller rivers only buzy ones and uses loads of battery life.

I've had this app for a few years now and has always worked well. It does use some battery

So far working good, I wish it had mile markers to an showed MPH (without having to open the info tab) to gauge better distance an time to locks an tow work

This is great app. Had an issue but developer responded quickly. Allot of apps are a waste of money. But not this one!

Way too expensive compared to similar apps, very disappointed that the AIS sharing was both an app purchase plus subscription. Not impressed

This app is fantastic! I recently used it coming from Freeport,Tx to Kemah via the ICW , Causeway bridge, Galveston Bay and the Houston ship Channel. Most of this was at night. It was great to be able to hail the commercial traffic by name. And most of them had an internet interface and could see me.

Really good app. UK Charts are not great though. Have you thought about using the Navionics SDK and use their charts instead? 25/01/19 Any update on the Navionics integration?

Just installed this and used it and it has me Saling down a high street.. Sometimes it's accurate and others times it's not.. I also paid to pair with the navionics app and it won't pair. It's a shame its not working 100% because it's a good app.

It was a useful app till it stopped working with no reason. Any suggestion to solve the issue? By OnePlus 6 android 10 user. UPDATE: Thanks for prompt reply

Has been really good for what I needed. But just updated to Android 10 on a Samsung S10 and the app has failed. Disappointed, hope Boat Beacon can be sorted to work with Android 10?

This app is rip off worse than play to win games. 20 bucks to buy it. Now another 5 bucks to get live traffic again. After it was already part of my orginal purchase. But was clearly rolled back during an update. To now be an extra paid option. I shall be reporting this Google Play..

Hello, I'm new user of the app. I'm enthusiastic by this, by possibility increase safety on small yacht without MMSI! However, I'm usually a bit strict on applications that collect more personal data than necessary. Especially, if the app is payed. Please correct me if I'm wrong. >>> 1, Unlike the User guide in the application, which says about "Location sharing enabling" (in describing "Onboard" button), I couldn't find this switch anywhere. So, If I understand well, the current version DO NOT enable Collision detection without internet transmisting own position to your net, isn't it? >>> 2, If I try switch "Onboard" without PERMANENT use Background location, this function is refused. I understand the philosophy: By single click start all safety functionality. No doubts, no forgotten something, no problems with darked screen. But I'm not a blunt consumer, I'm a responsible sailor! I have a cell phone in my pocket that will discharge in a few hours in a weak signal. And I want to be the one who evaluates myself in places where there is a risk of a collision, such as near a port or a busy waterway - after whole day sailing for example. I want to be the one who decides to share my coordinates, unless the law imposes this obligation. A strong warning when switching off 1, or 2, is fine. But making them completely impossible is unacceptable for me. If these obstacles are insurmountable, I will be disappointed and ask for a refund.

The app worked fine until it didn't. One day it just stopped working. There was no explanation as to why or what to do to get it to start working again! Tried uninstall/install but still not working! I'm using a galaxy 10se. Still working on old Android tablet.

Both the team and the application are great, I have been using it for a year as my ais device on my boat changed mobile device and stopped working as expected, the development team assisted in a very professional manner and helped me find the problem and provided a solution... Free of charge... I can't ask for a better service thank you, all the team, Justin from Gibraltar

I purchased this app over a year ago. Since then I upgraded to a new phone. Using the same account, when I install the app on the new phone, I can't get live view. When I click on Add Live View and Upgrade Now, it gives me an error and says I already own the app. Uninstalling and reinstalling doesn't help. This problem has persisted for months and the developer hasn't been able to resolve it.

Does not have anchor alarm for Droid. Can't use. They said they dont advertise it will alarm in droid. Also, when I used it as an anchor watch it missed most of the boat movement. Other onboard tools charted movement all around the Anchorage but this app missed about 50% . I did not get an email about leaving the set perimeter either. Did get one when we pulled anchor and about 1/4 mile away.

It didn't work on my Lenovo tablet. Keeps saying that GPS is not enabled (it's enabled and all other apps like Google Maps have no issues). "Use GPS satellites" is turned on in Android settings and tablet has GPS built in. Tried to contact support number of times, sent screenshots and descriptions - no response. Wasted $20.

App is cool, functionally of it sucks, many areas you can be right next to a ship or vessel you know has ais and it literally doesn't even show up on the map. You pay money for the app and all the add ons and then later their customer service basically tells you that they don't have coverage in your area. You should probably tell people that before they pay for the app. Don't waste your money on this app... This app is far more novelty than functional.

Does not upload my location often and does not inform the user the last time the location was successfully uploaded. This is a simple fix, I am guessing that the uploads are so poor that they do not want it documented. We took a trip from Baltimore to New Bern, North Carolina. now I see that the last location uploaded was in Norfolk. I have had data on my phone many times south of Virginia. While fun to see other vessels and the collision alarm works fine, they could not see me.

Ive used this app since i started sharing to Steve's site . The app is my daily driver and have my ais-catcher decoder linked to it as well through various receivers .The app is decent for its simplicity and the ability to share from/to multiple devices is excellent. Also the maps and ship icons are laid out clearly and you can differentiate between them . I see some negative reviews with regards to navigation remember these apps are more hobbyist than accuracy. Keep up the good work . Rab
