There are quite a bit of really brilliant shows to watch, that being said, theres literally tonnes of shows not featured on in this app. I dont not know if it is a licensing...thing but there is most definitely room to add much much more. That being said again, bring back, The Young Ones. why was that removed. All in all, i give this streaming service a three.
Reviews for BritBox: Home of British TV
← Back to BritBox: Home of British TVFor over three weeks I've been unable to cast to our TV. I notified BritBox and they say they're aware of the issue. In some of the reviews here, they say they've fixed the Chromecast problems, but they haven't. If we can't use the app, we should at least have our subscriptions extended for the time we've been unable to watch anything. Seriously reconsidering my future subscription.
I love the content but new episodes are released VERY slowly. I have been getting D.I. P. spoilers for months. Maybe putting the US release dates in the show information would be nice. I think that a "picture in picture" feature for tablets and mobile devices would be great. I want to be able to minimize the screen and use other apps on my phone. I have other apps that offer this feature (Prime, Netflix, Paramount+). Again, I love the content, but I agree with other reviews that the app can be improved on.
Love the content but considering unsubscribing in search for a more reliable service. As others mentioned, the app just stops working (you get a grey screen or a loading screen) from time to time. This happened on Feb 5th, when it did not work for a day, and today again. I don't use it every day, so it is possible it doesn't work more often than just a few days a month. No response or apologies/refunds from developers. Please fix this.
I woukd enjoy this app if I could get it to stream to my TV without glitching. It's so bad that I gave up. It will stop about every 30 seconds to a minute then restart from the beginning of the show. I'm not going to pay more monthly to watch on my cell, so bye bye Britbox. It would help if I could adjust streaming quality so I could get it on the TV. As it is, the app just doesn't work very well and there aren't any settings to adjust.
Been subscribed for over a year and have always been able to cast to my TV. Starting a few days ago, it won't let me cast it and just says "britbox" in huge letters on my TV screen when I do try to cast it but then the show just plays on my phone. I've done all the usual uninstalling and installing back, checked my chrome cast which works fine with Netflix. Super frustrating that I'm paying for something I can't watch on my TV. Maybe time to unsubscribe if I don't hear from anyone. Hm...
Love Britbox, but some issues with the app. A lot of buffering--some shows will only play two or three minutes at a time. My watchlist, stuff disappears from it regularly. It would be nice to mark episodes as watched, especially when watching a program with a lot of seasons. Britbox is totally worth it, but the app could use some tweaks.
I've been a BritBox subscriber for a couple of years now. In the beginning, this app worked OK though it seemed a little buggy. But at least I was able to play content on it and Chromecast. A year later it started getting worse, with a frequent spinning circle at loading the app, which wouldn't stop until I restarted my Pixel 3. But now it's gotten totally impossible to use. The spinning is always there and restarting doesn't solve the problem. And emails to support yield no help.
Great content, but I wish it kept track of what I watch better. When I go back to a Series, I have to guess which episode I'm on because it doesn't track properly. Some of the episodes show I've watched, but not all, and it rarely comes up with the last watched show at the correct position in the Continue Watching menu. But this is my only complaint, and should be easy to fix as every other streaming app works properly.
I love this service, but this app needs serious work. 80% of the time it can't even open. It just sits there spinning on the loading screen. I have to restart my phone to get it to work sometimes. The app also doesn't seem to remember where I was in an episode, or which episodes I've been watching in the "continue watching" section. I'd also really like a skip +/- 15 seconds option so I could skip some intros. That being said, I love the Britbox service and selection. Just needs a better app.
Great catalog, but the app needs work. Frequent playback issues (particularly when casting to a device). Slow and unresponsive at times. I also don't really like that it doesn't keep track of what episodes you've already watched, or pick you back up where you left off in the catalog. So you'll often times have to just remember what season and episode you left off on. I'm not sure who greenlit this app but they need to revisit. It's got the kind of quality I would have expected in 2005. Not 2021
I really wanted to like this app, and was very excited when I saw the commercials for it on TV. But in all honesty it's very unstable. It always fails to keep track of recently watched history, deletes shows saved to your watchlist everytime you open it, continue watching never works. Additionally searching shows using the categories is too simplified, as you only have about four to choose from, and there is no way to search more than one category at a time. Only good is the variety of shows.
The Brits just get how to do great tv! The shows are greatness, but... The UI on the website isn't allowing me to change anything. I can't access my account to change password, change, cancel or update my subscription. The app allows me to access these, but the website does not. It's worth the price, totally. I do wish they had some other shows (my hero, it crowd, etc), but it's still great shows. However I'd like to be able to access & handle my own info & options on the website.
While I am enjoying revisiting shows I remember from years ago, the app regularly pops up an error message about no internet or wifi. All other streaming apps keep right on so my internet connection is fine. Update: I contacted Britbox Support and they asked for everything but the kitchen sink, asked me several times to change devices (I did) and when the app finally decided to work they patted themselves on the back as though they had actually done something. Sadly, the problem persists.
Update: I realized it's been a while since I initially posted, but the app works well now. I don't have problems pausing, and the navigation is okay. There are lots of shows to choose from. ------ Frustrating app. The sound stopped working when I hit pause and then play. I tried exiting, and turning my headphones off and on, but the sound wouldn't play. Other functions got better after some updates (the pause/rewind used to be terrible), but the sound problem never happened before.
Terrible app. Shows don't autoplay, and I cannot find a way to make them do so. So you have to advance each episode manually. If you're casting to another device, it's especially awkward, because if you don't get to it quickly enough, it'll stop casting and you start all over. The app also crashes a lot, and sometimes refuses to load at all.
Doesn't work, I just signed up and get "generic error" when I try to log in. It'd be funny if it weren't so useless. Password reset didn't fix the issue. Edited to update: can't login to the website, either. Funny how it worked just fine when I entered payment info less than 5 minutes previous. Their website says they are experiencing login issues. The content is great; I've been watching through the Amazon app but it's garbage so I switched to this app. More garbage!
great shows, but no picture in picture option. very disappointed especially because this is missing only from the app for Android. From what I've read, iPhone users has it. RUDE. Every other app I have or used to have includes this feature, so it did not occur to me to see if it had picture in picture before I subscribed. had I known, I might not have gotten the subscription.
Fantastic app & streaming service. 😀 Customer service is pleasant & very helpful since I first signed up! I wasn't sure how to get the discount offered but it was so easy to do a chat with a follow-up email from Britbox to ensure I was happy. I was actually too late to receive the discount but they were so freaking nice & apologetic. They even offered the discount which they did not have to do. I have enjoyed the shows, the movies, & the news. Really great service with no ads!! Ten Stars! 🥳
I have held onto this subscription for years now. But to ask for loyal customers to pay for a full year, in order to get the true benefits of a subscription, is unthinkable. I paid every month. But now I, along with a great many others, I dare say, will be letting this service go now. I just cancelled my subscription. I refuse to sit and look at a screen full of videos I can't watch for around a month (unless I starve myself for a period of time, and pay for a full year of service at once).
