Reviews for British Museum Audio
← Back to British Museum AudioUpdate 2: All sorted and app looks and sounds great! Update1: thanks for looking into it, looking forward to being able to access the full experience. Original: App won't let me purchase the Full Bundle. It says transaction was declined.
very confusing to find things. very random Im not enjoying myself.
Nothing happens when I click on the purchase buttons. I'm fine with paying for the tours, and was excited to use this, but hard to do when you just can't purchase anything. I was able to listen to some of the free content, but it's really not much. Really took away from the visit.
The app is just okay. The info is great and I'm glad I had it but you have to keep the app and your phone open for it to work, so the audio stops if you close your phone or use another app, which is annoying if you want to take a picture of the item you are looking at while at the same time listen to the audio. And it is glitchy to the point that I had to completely close the app and reopen if I ever used a different app. It could be that we were there on a very busy day though.
audio description light to be available for download instead of streaming. Data and WiFi reception is spotty in many places and we have been unable to really follow any of the tours. The information is no doubt valuable, but doesn't work as intended. a refund would be appreciated
The overall experience is not good at all. 1) The app restarts every time once left. 2) Audio guides cannot be used with the screen locked. 3) The in-app purchased tours are underwhelming, as they represent only a small collection of items concerning the topic. One does not know where the tour starts and goes. I expected some map inside the app that shows where the tour points are located. During the tour, one is just on search for the next audio guide point.
Update: I paid for the app now it's charging more for extra tours! Totally disappointing. For individual items the app is just about passable, although some of the item descriptions are so short as to be almost worthless. For tours however the app is a total nightmare. It switches off on lockscreen, doesn't flow between rooms. The old audio tours the museum used to provide were amazing and worth paying for on each visit, this app is barely worth the £4,99 for lifetime use.
The British museum audio guide service is essentially complete garbage. The museum does not offer any physical audio guide devices and instead instructs you to download their app where you will find a complete audio bundle guide for £5. Not only do you have to use your own phone's battery (which as a tourist you want to conserve), but their wifi is so garbage that you cannot even listen to the guides properly. What a waste of time and money!
Hooray! In-app payment now works so we can now purchase the additional tours (much better buying the whole bundle). It's great to have the whole museum guide available in your pocket. The audio reocordings are excellent. I'm really looking forward to my next visit where I can browse the collections using the app. Thanks for sorting out the purchase issue.
Purchased full guide but unable to download Egypt and Greece audio tours. Good app but don't buy full guide.
I bought the full package via in app purchase. I must say, the content is so minimal that you are better off just reading the signs. I joined one of the live tours offered by the museum, just excellent! I recommend not not wasting your money on in app purchases in this app.
It's a "free download" to what is simply a web page portal where there is an additional surcharge to actually listen to the audio. All the audio for almost all the exhibits are locked unless you pay £2 for each section of the museum, or a bundle for £5. Don't claim something is "Free" if you're just going to charge people to actually use it. Buy the physical guidebook instead and you'll have a souvenir with pictures.
Good with room for improvement. The location maps are out of date which is frustrating especially when trying to find smaller objects. Flaky wifi in Room 33. Quite a few objects labelled for audio were not available in the app. Otherwise a very enjoyable app. The highlights in the rooms are well chosen. I would like to see a second layer of audios (different colour, say) which you would do on a subsequent visit.
Some missing objects. the plaque would say that there's something on the audio guide but there would be nothing
not The best for a free app. most of the content requires payment, so if that's okay maybe it's good. I didn't pay
Download the audio tours ahead of time before you arrive to the museum‼️ The cellular/mobile surface within the the museum can be very spotty and slow, especially on a busy day. To download, you have to go to the tours feature in the app and you will see the download button on the top right. I didn't even notice it because the lack of contrast with the background image. Note, there is also no search feature within the app if you're looking for item you want to learn about.
Purchased to unlock the full guide now guide still not working, asking to pay again which is impossible because Google Play says you already own this item. Still guide is locked.
Not advertised as required payment for tours, or anything else, required. You find out after downloading which is manipulative and unethical.
Very frustrating the way that you have allocated audio to the tours. I've purchased the classical world but there's a bunch of stuff in the Greek section that's inaccessible - for no obvious reason. I'll just purchase the full guide now, meaning I wasted £3 on the first purchase, and there's no discount provided to adjust for this. Disappointing!
