Reviews for Burner: Second Phone Number

Glitchy app/ Terrible customer service - I haven't been able to receive 2 step verifications through the app. Customer service keeps offering to change the number, when that's not what I need. I've stated that several times and the response is always - change your number. Umm. No. Cannot recommend this. One star for low pricing. But. You get what you (don't) pay for. Seriously. Don't.

Update: after posting my first review while angry that I couldn't login to message someone, I was notified via email that the issue for me has been resolved. It wasn't a very prompt resolution but it was resolved and as far as $ and service go, I guess it's ok. user interface is buggy and will log you out or not send notifications. My account won't even let me login in now. I pay for a subscription and it's current but I cannot log in and I cannot access anything saved in app because of that...

Needed a second number. This app worked for about two weeks, now I keep getting server errors. Tried multiple networks, still server error. So the app doesn't work anymore, and I went to cancel my subscription, and guess what? Another server error. And the worst part is that they don't have any support on either their app or company website, forcing me to write this review in the hope that they might decide to provide some help. I might have to request a chargeback on my card for this app.

I would give it one star, but occasionally it does actually connect with whom I'm trying to communicate. Once there is any load on the software, it all falls apart. I attempted to use this software to recruit people for three separate volunteer projects. As soon as a half of a dozen texts or calls came in, the app stopped updating in real time, and notifications ceased all together. It would have been more cost-effective for me to pay an employee to handle the calls.

Doesn't work reliably. For the past year whenever it rings it will never let me pick up, always fails to load until after it stops ringing and goes to voicemail. Doesn't save draft texts if you close the app before sending. New update where I have to select a line before every text - even though I only have one line now?? Who dreamed that "feature" up... Been with them for years but prob not much longer, just need to find one that actually works for $50/yr

Mandatory monthly billing, no way to cancel. You used to be able to buy a monthly subscription or a pack of X minutes/texts for a flat fee with no subscription. I need the app to make one call every 3-4 months, so the monthly subscription would make no sense for me. I went to reinstall this app, and they've done away with all flat fee options and ONLY have a monthly subscription. And according to these reviews, it's impossible to cancel. Absolutely not worth it anymore

And another update - 23 Sept 2018. Burner has been mostly operational for the last month, with a few inconvenient outages, but today they're sending "your number will expire (soon)" notices every 10 minutes or so... but have stolen all outstanding credits. I had purchased a pack of credits last month, should have a balance of around $10, and they report a balance of ZERO, not ten. Of course their status page says everything is operational. Either they're lying about status or about credits, but they're lying. Yet another update (21 Aug 2018)): Burner now has a status page, that always states all is operational - even when it isn't. Update: Their server is so bad that it fails on verification, eventually locking you out Used to work. Newest version broke the working numbers - won't send texts but says it did send them. No support - you get back an email saying you'll get a response in 48 hours. Maybe, but certainly not in 8. Do you really want to use a "phone" that will suddenly, silently, stop delivering your messages, with no support or way to get a refund? But when it works, it's great.

The app is great when it works. I have a 3 line subscription yet when you delete a line to add a new one it pops up an error message saying you've reached your limit??? Then the app has zero customer service phone numbers and only help through email which took 7 hours to respond to. I'm sure their inboxes are flooded, it would make more sense to have a line to resolve issues in 5 mins vs 2 days. Their customer service is very nice though. Please fix these issues! Many rely on this for our jobs!

Awesome UI. But there's no option to increase size of text messages! Why?! Also, you cannot block numbers unless they're saved as contacts. Odd! Finally, the app does NOT support gifs. When you text someone a .gif, they see a static image. Other than this, the app seems to work well, and is the best app in this category after Google Voice.

I've used this app for 2 years now and there isn't any other that has the features. The implementation is terrible though. the app does not work well. I can almost never retrieve voicemails and if your phone is locked, and you get a call, it's 9/10 that you won't be able to answer as the app closes as soon as you unlock. I've talked with support half a dozen times, sent screen shots, and every time the response is "delete and reinstall" - and nothing changes. Their response below is BS.
