I want a *simple* calorie counter. You should make it an option to skip the intro questionnaire, I don't want any fancy perks or features. I don't want an app that thinks it can plan out anything for me or has all my personal info. why don't simple apps exist anymore?
Reviews for CalCam: AI Calorie Counter
← Back to CalCam: AI Calorie CounterDO NOT download. It says it's free but you can't do a single thing without a subscription. There are many far better apps out there, this is hardly even the best one when it comes to paid. Save your money for an app without irritating misleading marketing. The developer response means nothing. The supposed quality means nothing when you're lying to those who buy it. The high rating is given by fake reviews, even those who have paid for it hate it.
The app is free to download, that's where it ends. You can't try any features without a subscribe screen popping up, there was one screen where it used a built in picture to show me how it should work, that was it. Even allowing scanning of just ONE meal would be great to test it out.
the app is very easy to use. being able to take a photo of the food is great as it saves a lot of data entry time. if you dont agree with the calory count from the photo, you can easily adjust the calory count. overall a great product
calorie counting is like a full time job but when entering items in the log is as easy as taking a picture or writing a small paragraph it's much more approachable. AI (in general, not specific to this app) is very far from perfect but for this app's purpose works okay enough to approximately track cals & macros. Wish there was more support for manual corrections to nutrition info, in case the AI gets it wrong, as far as I can tell you currently can only edit the calorie total or serving size.
NO way to contact- response to the developer: seriously you think clicking a choice for the problem and then it disappears under contact or report problem is actually contacting you with the issue and no where to find the email that belongs to you acceptable- well its not, requesting a refund , app does not count calories correctly, no features - seriouslylook elsewherefor free trails, too much money for what you get because it doesn't perform as advertised. no way to try before you buy.
I paid for the subscription upfront, which I don't regret hearing all the whinging about ads lol. I think it's worth it if you are serious about your goals. I do have some concerns over the accuracy of the calorie counting, even with a photo and a description to explain sometimes the estimates are really out of whack. I do find myself googling calorie amounts which kind of defeats the purpose.
Horrible, if you think you are just gonna scan something quickly, view the calories and move on with your life you'd be mistaken. You have to view several ads before you scan your food, then wait for several more ads to play out before seeing the results. You would waste less time, weighing and recording your calories manually than using this app.
Well I downloaded the app and THOUGHT I was signing up for it, and paid for 6 months, only for the app to have pulled a switcheroo on me, and I ended up signing up for a complete other app called Simple, that I had to download after. There was NO indication I was signing up and PAYING for a completely different app. I was willing to pay because of the good reviews for THIS app. So not off to a great start here. Put a sour taste in my mouth that they started off so incredibly shady like that.
My success rate on scanning a meal has been about fifty percent when I have manually verified the calories on the plate. When scanning the barcodes, the calories may be different portion size, and there is no way to change it. I am disappointed that the portion sizes are not in cups as that is the easiest way to determine portion size for me. I haven't figured out how to copy foods from a previous day to today. I will keep working on it as I love many of the graphs, etc.
So far going good. AI is good at detecting the food. I like that it breaks down everything it thinks it sees with calories for each items in the meal. I would like it to break down more nutrients like daily fiber and sugar. Also, you have to pay to edit after you use the AI feature. If you just input the food you don't have to pay. I feel it's a bit pricey for the year subscription. But I just started using the app.
There's no free version with ads or even a trial; AFTER the tedious start-up, it takes you to a pay page, and you can choose "not now" but then it immediately pulls up a yearly "discount" page and demands you "pay now!" You can't move forward without payment, and I'm not paying for a month (much less a year) of anything without knowing what it's like.
The CalDiet app and FoodVisor are way better in accuracy. I did some checking myself and the calories and macros are way off, making it almost impossible to see any changes. Even the "real results" tab was obviously AI generated. The amount of calories it said you consumed is not the amount you actually consumed, as it is very inaccurate.
The app. does not work. I paid, and then I scanned an item. It gave 3 different incorrect information for the same item. The item was in its original package. I then tried to cancel my annual subscription, but I just allowed me to cancel the renewal for next year. I wasted my money.
The barcode scanner is continuously wrong. I find this to be the most frustrating feature. what is the point in scanning if I have to go in and change everything about it? Same with the food scanner. while I have more patience for that .. its an added bust feature, in my opinion. I was really wanting to love this app but I find myself regretting the purchase.
everything I scan, it's not accurate....I have to adjust the calories, carbs, fat, and protein....what's the point of having this app it doesn't make it easier at all...I thought it will be so simple scan the barcode or food and have all the nutrients number right but no, I have to readjust it myself which I can do it without having this app...I wish I can get the money back...no worth it...
not free there's a $10/yr subscription after sign up AI does allow for inputting a description or picture of your meals but that's the entirety of it. Prompts like "the same chicken i had yesterday" don't work. also AI estimation is very unreliable. even entering the same food on two different days give different cal values. there's no interaction with AI like recommendations for eating habits or helping you plan a meal. This app does little to help with weight loss, its just a food log.
There is no log in so if you subscribe, there is no way to attach the subscription to an account. I got the app set up, decided to subscribe. Then a couple days later, I open the app and it reset, making me set it up all over again including the subscription. Thought it would kickstart it since I use the same Google account. Nope. Just charged me twice. I'm now trying to get a refund. So far I've been told to try going through Google Play for a refund. That's not how it works.
based on others' reviews, it seems you used to be able to use the app without a subscription from watching an ad. Now you can't do anything without subscribing. No free trial either. I'm happy to pay for an app that is worthwhile, but I'm not giving you my money if I can't determine it is worthwhile. You should at least let people scan something like 10 meals before requiring a subscription so they can see how it does.
This app is perfect. Taking pictures of my food to get translated into nutritional estimates, barcode scanning, writing input, let's me visually see and track my progress for the day and long term. Even helps me set my goals. My only recommendation so far, and it's the big one keeping it from 5 stars, but to please help me keep track of my liquid intake. I need help knowing how much water to drink and how far I am on or off track from hitting my goals. So please help.
