Loved the idea of generating random routes on demand! Liked the app, too, would give 5 stars but... I just found out recently that it abuses the wakelock Android mechanism, even when not running, and as a result I got my battery drained very fast. Overall, I think, it played a major role in reducing my (not-replaceable!) battery capacity. Developers need to step up and play nice with Android, getting rid of those ugly kludges they have added.

Created a ride to try out the app. Took some work to figure it out, as it kept routing around one of the legs I wanted to ride, but I wanted to see how it reacted to missed turns, etc, so I kept trying. Got the route set, went to take the ride, but couldn't, because navigating by saved rides only works if you pay. Trying out basic functionally is a no go with this app, and no, I won't subscribe without trying it first. Ended up being time wasted.

Could be great. I've had the app for a couple of years now and used it to track some rides. I almost paid for premium but it was the end of the season. Went to track my first ride this season and found out you now need premium to do even that. People don't want to pay monthly subscriptions for the most basic functions of apps. Either charge only for extra, premium features, or a flat fee up front for everything. Otherwise it's a like a gym membership you can only use once in a while

The round trip feature is fantastic for finding a ride, especially if you're in an unfamiliar area. The point-to-point nav is... acceptable. The search feature is complete garbage for US addresses and location names, but that's a limitation of Open Street Map. I assume that's used because the Google Maps API access is too expensive. I usually have to Google where I'm going, then navigate to the nearest city in Calimoto and drop a pin. Once that's done, though, it does a good job of routing.

Good potential. I have found some great roads but I've also had my share of horrible suggestions. I'm not a dev guy so I don't know how much work it would be but it would be great to have the option to "exclude" areas with any population over "XX" amount. This app finds twisty roads but I've been stuck in towns that have horrible traffic and red lights every 30 meters. It would be great if you could pair it with real time traffic info and keep you away from anything not flowing too.

I just had the most horrific experience with several false u turn instructions and twice ending up riding the same loop just to get to where I was before. I ended up turning the thing off. If this happens again, I am canceling my subscription. Tried it once more, only to be guided in circles again. Canceled my subscription and uninstalled app. It's too bad, as it could be a great thing to have.

I've been using Calimoto for a few months now and overall I like the app. It's fairly easy to plan routes and I like seeing the record of the route and some statistics after the ride. It feels like it is not really setup for multiday rides unless you break up each day's ride into a separate route. The paid version gives you only a couple extra stats but you can use offline maps which is necessary where I ride. I'd like to be able to download certain Canadian provinces maps individually as well.

The concept is great, the execution is lacking. Needs pinch to zoom in and out. Right now the scope is really narrow. Needs two finger panning, the ability to avoid dirt roads, and a posted speed limit reading. With Google, Apple, and Waze, I think the integration can be drastically improved. Not sure if I'll renew as it's a lot of money to have to pick my way around gravel roads. Note: I only want paved roads, and yes, it creates (many) off-road routes.

I never thought that Calimoto was an intuitive app to use. But it was something one could get used to. With the latest version, I find myself struggling to do pretty much anything. I was going to purchase a yearly subscription but when the newest interface was released I started looking for other options again. I also use an older phone as my GPS and the newest version is really laggy on that phone (S7). Not really blaming the developer but it would still be nice to keep the app lean.

The routes it plans are usually pretty good, but the navigation app is bad. The first issue is that the volume is low. Even with the maximum volume, it is half as loud as the Google maps. The second issue is that sometimes it just stops telling you when to turn. Sometimes, I start the navigation and drive for half an hour, only to realize that the navigation just stopped. Going back to the app usually resumes it, but this unreliability made me cancel the subscription.
