I really like the functionality of this app. It has help me lose 20lbs. But a word of advice. Having ads pop up every time you click on something is not the way to get people to purchase your product. Limiting features and/or the occasional ad on the free version is completely acceptable. But making the app virtually unusable unless you buy it, is not the way to get customers.
Reviews for Calorie Counter by Cronometer
← Back to Calorie Counter by CronometerWould be 5 stars, but the ads keep getting progressively more intrusive. They even block the buttons at the bottom of your screen now, making it difficult to close out the app, which seems a bit unreasonable. Kinda feels like I'm being bullied into paying for the app just to have control of my device, which I absolutely will not do. I won't test their Gold account because I won't pay for my phone to work. At this point, if the ads don't get better, I'll be finding an app that is less invasive.
I like many options on this free version of the app.I really like the barcode scan feature and the exercise trackers. I have been using the free version for about 3 weeks and getting used to how to use it with my food scale. However, recently the ADS have started popping up for 90 seconds and won't let me add my food when I open the app. It's kind of infuriating. The ads aren't even for health related items/services. They are mostly for stupid game apps.
I LOVE THIS APP! I use it to track what food my toddler eats to make sure he is getting all his vitamins and such. I love that I can create recipes, scan food and even save items to a favorites list. I just wish that I could somehow have multiple profiles. I'd love to do this for myself and add future children (just when they're little). I love this app so much, I'd even pay to have that feature.
I have had this for several years and it keeps getting better! The price, the features, the interface, lack of spelling issues, user manual (you get the jist). My concern: There is a lack of marketing and I wish more professionals would use it. I want more dieticians and nutritionists to know about it and use it. The search function is inconsistent: Sometimes it's perfect and sometimes it gives results that I haven't ever used, rather than showing the most frequently used foods.
Calories in, calories out. That's what Cronometer does well. It takes your physical information into account when you first provide your weight, age, height, how much weight you want to lose and such, then it provides a daily caloric intake target, tons of nutritional information and a date that you will reach your target. Entering food is made easier by the barcode scanning feature. You are also able to search for foods, or create you own dishes. Very helpful.
Frustrating. The paid version features have so many bugs in its calculation. The free version you don't notice the errors because you can't adjust anything. The idea of the program is fantastic, however as soon as you make any adjustments the program gets very confused. It cannot keep track of your goals and reverts back and forth from defaults to adjusted numbers. It also continually loses your water intake. I like the program a lot. I just wish they would debug the problems.
I'm moving away from a paid Fitbit sub and was hoping for a replacement. Unfortunately, while testing, the constant full-screen ads made me decide to throw Chronometer in the bin. The ads happen multiple times a day and you can't seem to get out of without closing the app itself. Nope, not having it. You lost a potential paying subscription because of them.
I really enjoy this app and go back and forth with a paid account. I think the one feature I wish it had was, when searching for a food in the database, it should list any previously logged food that matches the search at the top of the list. The fact that you basically can't search your own log history is kind of a hassle.
I am really loving this app. I really like the idea of the new AI feature. I think it would be great though if you could add items you have on hand from your fridge and pantry then you can ask the AI to generate suggestions from that. Also, the AI gives ingredients but not directions. Most of the time it looks like the suggestions are pretty easy to figure out but not always. It would be great if you could see a recipe.
The features that don't require a subscription seems more robust than Myfitnesspal. Can customize how many macros your want to aim for. The only fault, and major enough that I'm using another meal tracking app, is the directory of food you can log is limited. It's missing many different cuisines (Thai, Korean, polish, etc) , restaurants and established franchises (Chipotle). I have to spend time deconstructing meals and inputting it to log somewhat correctly
Works much faster than Fitbit and Myfitness pal. data migrates over to Fitbit so I can see it in one place if I want. has a lot more nutritional information than anything I've seen in other apps if that's something you want to track. overall I'm quite happy with the free tier, but there are some graphs locked behind a subscription that I would like to see, and the subscription is $60 per year which seems steep for access to more data that they are already collecting anyways.
I've been using the app for about 2 months and I love it so far! I dreaded the idea of calorie counting before but I find that I don't mind it at all thanks to the convenient features Cronometer has like barcode scanning, and the ability to copy meals from previous days. I've lost 5 lbs so far just being more aware of portion sizes! I would probably invest in Gold for the recipe import feature if there was a choice to buy it for life for a reasonable price. But I'm not a fan of subscriptions.
Update: I use the app every single day and I never plan to switch! Thank you for adding the day of the week to the date on the diary as well! I've been looking for something that would be an upgraded experience to what I find missing in Samsung Health for food tracking. This nails almost every aspect! (Only had a few days so far.) It will be a great fitness companion and make meal tracking souch easier! So excited to have found this! Thank you!
Update: Ad quantity is reasonable, and the ads mostly seem to be muted again (or I'm getting less obnoxious ads :) - either way it's more feasible to use now! I haven't found out if foods still disappear from the favorites list if the database they came from deletes it (if so, it would be handy in Cronometer still showed the starred food, but indicated that it had been deleted on the third-party database).
The ads are too much, this app was great before they started this obnoxious and unrelenting ad placement. I've used it for a year or so and I never saw any ads. I get it you have to turn some sort of profit and if you can't get enough subs then you have to do ads. Do you really need a full screen interruption of what I'm doing literally every 3 min?!?! This needs to be fixed you give the impression your trying to annoy your users into a paid sub which is a sure fire way to lose users.
Very frustrated with the new ads system. I've been using this app for over a year and loved it. Suddenly I'm getting ads every time I open the app. The ads are loud, disruptive and so frustrating, makes me want to throw my phone. I am considering finding another app. I notice that several people are commenting about this and the responses claim it's a bug that they figured out, yet I'm still getting the ads... :(
solid app. with one perplexing and frustrating shortcoming: some foods require using specific units, such as "cup", which is super annoying if you are monitoring food intake by the gram using a scale. Why the heck are basic units of weights and measurements not available to *every* food item? Knocking 2 stars because accurate and easy tracking of food is the entire purpose of this app, and this is a daily source of frustration for me. Otherwise a very well done app.
Great app, horrible ads that render the app useless for 15-30 seconds before you can exit and go back to what you wanted to do averaging about every other time one goes to log something. I wouldn't mind a pop up ad every time if it didn't hijack the app for up to half a minute. If it weren't for that, I'd say it's just a few steps from perfect. Because of the ads, I'll probably move on. To reply: No other app allows ads to take over like yours. Pay for normalcy? No thanks!
Generally, it does well what it's supposed to do. It has the features that others used to have like a barcode scan for food. The import from health connect is flawed, getting incorrect data like sleep and excessive calories from exercise. I also wish there were more device connections available, but health connect bridges that gap. This app shines in the availability of features as long as you aren't reliant on the flawed parts.
