Really great app when you’re online, unfortunately very lacking offline. Why can’t you download any area why are you locked in to predetermined rectangles? Why can you only download a selection of layers? I want to download my custom TMS layers. Probably gonna cancel my pro subscription, if this is fixed I’ll resume and give […]

Overall decent, some caveats. The data availabe isn’t the same in different countries. In Canada the Geology, Public Land, Parcel Data, and Motor Vehicle MVUM “overlays” don’t exist. The scanned topos available in Canada are inferior to the ones available in the USA. Satelite imagery isn’t available for download in Canada. Even with the inferior […]
Amazing app and amazing team behind it. CalTopo customer for life!
it’s easy to look up global positioning system coordinates and bearing references
I’m sure I’m just the latest GaiaGPS refugee to move over here. App is data rich and not bloated, will be subscribing. At this point so jaded that I’m just hoping for a good year or two until enshittification comes for this one, too. 😮💨
Despite its advertising the contrary, the app REQUIRES you to sign in before you can use it. UNINSTALLED.
Cheap and highly functional. Excellent for downloading routes and layers in advance for offline use.
Essential tools for navigation and outdoor recreation if you travel widely. Phone hardware requirements are high, but I find it less buggy than other apps such as Alltrails and Gaia when I needed to download a lot of data.
and otherwise decent mapping application is ruined by clunky and inconsistent login process! For example, to sign up to their help tracking system, you create an account on caltopo itself with a password that is dedicated to that login. But when you try to upgrade or add a pro subscription, it expects you to still […]
Best map app I have used. As a geologist and outdoor enthusiast, this app has many features that help with work and play. I particularly like that is easy to integrate lidar data (shaded relief). That alone has saved me hours of importing and converting lidar with various GIS platforms.
I’ve been doing hardcore wilderness/ off trail navigation for 30 years and finally a SERUOUS nav system. not just an app, A system. web app allows me to plan and set routes. walk-by-gps app works fine, but I use compass+map and the maps made with CalTopo are second to none. LOVE this system, can’t speak […]
Excellent mapping. Please add CarPlay/Android Auto function. We really need to be able to use this app while mobile and not look at the phone constantly.
this app is awful. As a forester, this is the worst navigation app I’ve ever used. spottty at best. avenza is 1,000 times better as is any other navigation app.
I don’t like that Google offline maps expire after 1 year. I want maps that I can use for years without an internet connection. I thought this could do that….it can’t. You have to subscribe for $20/year. I would pay a 1 time price if it meant my maps would work forever, but even that […]
The mobile app is a total Fail if you are trying to navigate in an offline environment like… deep in the wilderness or even state or national parks where internet is not available. It simply doesn’t work and I have had much conversation with support on this to be sure it wasn’t me. I have […]
Most powerful digital mapping tool for outdoor recreation. Can do what many other apps/software do all in one app. Mostly I use it on my computer, but then seamlessly move to the app when in the field. It all syncs at the end of the day.
Caltopo costs far less than Gaia, Farout, etc, but it has diverse data from many geo databases, and maps made by other users with campsites, bear boxes, etc. I combine different layers. E.G. scanned USGS topos with the most detailed geographic place names, and the map builder overlay at about 60% strength, for trail mileage, […]
I have used many other mapping programs, and they are good for different reasons. CalTopo while not the fastest for finding well traveled and well reviewd routes, it is the best for creating your own. I always find myself coming back to CalTopo. Mobile route creation is not my preferred method, I like to see […]
Very good, but hard to create a route on the app. I love the clear topo maps, the tracking and ability to download all the map area info with subscription. Creating a route and getting stats on it is easy on a computer on the website with a mouse, but in the app I can’t […]
I used to really like Caltopo. My only problem with it was the inability to “move” tracks between maps. You have to download then reupload. But sometime in the past 6 months, the app has become increasingly buggy. It’s ridiculously slow, downloading is almost impossible because the app seems to freeze 95% of the time, […]
