I went into this app open-minded despite having reservations. I was severely disappointed. There are only 4 options currently and the prices for coins are just way too high down the line for a movie. They also do not have a get coins if you do this or that option. Like maybe reward people if they come in everyday, with some free coins. I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1 because I really liked one of the movies just will probably never see it fully because it's just too expensive.
Reviews for CandyJarTV - Drama & Shorts
← Back to CandyJarTV - Drama & ShortsAbsolutely awful! You cannot get any coins by watching ads to continue watching. You can't even pay a price for an unlimited week like other apps. There is no way to watch anything beyond the first few episodes unless you are willing to pay incredible amounts of money. If you do pay, the price per episode burns through the coins almost instantaneous! If they want more people subscribing, they need to make it worth it to the subscriber.
I gave this a two because the episodes were decent. Each episode is around a minute long, there's a few a little longer. Right in the middle, you go from paying 50 coins to 70 coins, and $25.00 was not enough to finish the series. It cost around 32$ to watch less than 12 minutes of movie that was way too pricey. Will not be watching another movie on this platform
I don't understand why people are complaining about spending over $60 to read one book. These apps want you to keep spending money, and it never ends. Even if they have a $20 weekly deal for unlimited reading, that's like paying for a monthly Netflix subscription in one week. I'm probably going to delete this app. I can watch videos for free on YouTube, Dailymotion, and TikTok. And if a video isn't uploaded yet, I'll just wait and save my money. The quality and bad acting isn't worth it.
This app is a real scam . You have already started a story spending coins to almost finish . There are only a few episodes left because I don't make a purchase with them for a moment. They made me restart the serie instead of continuing where I was stopping it . Then, no matter how much coins you buy, no rewards. A big scam. I don't know if they pay people to lie in the rate or if my app is different from theirs . This is the worst app ever .
Production quality is unexpectedly good. There's just no way for you to earn coins like with other apps, you have to purchase them. I've also noticed they sell 1,500 coins for $15 but sell 500 for $3, separately - totaling to $9 for the same amount of coins lol. Same thing as the numbers get higher (2,500 coins for $25, but it would just be $15 if you bought 500 coins 5x).
I've watched two shows and they're great and they make you feel all the feelz. I do not understand how it's $20/week to subscribe to unlimited episodes. That's $80-$120/month for shorter form content. It is SO expensive. Like more than Netflix? I get the production value is high but the way you pay for "episodes" is absolutely insanity. Either make a free version with ads or make it cheaper because that ish in insane.
You have to spend $2.99 to watch just 10 short "episodes" of the short film. After spending $12.97, I'm only halfway through the short film. If I were to finish it, it would cost me the same as a movie theater ticket to watch a full-length feature film with better cinematography and cinematic experience in general. The math is not mathing to justify this.
Loved Galatea, saw this so downloaded it to try. 1st one I clicked was a book I was in the middle of reading. The video version was nothing like the book. Anything that did line up with the book was just a fast shell of what's described or it was changed entirely. They rushed through the book as fast as possible so things did not make sense. They would skip months and not tell you they did so as if it were the next day. I paid $15 just giving the app a chance and it didn't even cover one video!
The acting was ok most of the time, the writing and the editing needs work. I like the idea of this but the pricing is ridiculous. I bought 1,000 coins for $10 and that got me about halfway through one book "movie", including the few freebie episodes at the beginning. To finish it, I assume it will cost at least another $10 for a total of $20 for a subpar "movie" that I don't even own. What a racket! No. Absolutely not. The value just isn't there. You've out-priced yourself GalateaTV.
After getting the first few episodes for free, you have to pay to unlock each episode. Spend $2.99 to unlock 10 episodes (the episodes are 2 minutes top), and most series have at least 40 episodes. There's no subscription offer. It's not worth the money at all. It's cheaper to just get a Netflix subscription or something. I definitely can't afford this.
It had some good short movies if you're into romance, but there were so many downfalls. You could only watch a few episodes a day without paying for it, but the biggest one for me was all the technical issues. Since the first time I downloaded it, it stayed on the first screen that showed the symbol for days and nothing else. I reached out to support because this happened again when I was finally in, and they just tell you to re-install, which doesn't work. Over it. Uninstalled
Pay to watch! There's no getting around it, not unless you want to watch 1 minute of the movie per day. The acting was ok, however, the title and ad for the one I watched (which is what got me interested in this app to begin with) were completely misleading and not at all how the story went.
The stories are okay, but each "episode" is only around a minute, give or take, and once you run out of your free watches, it takes either 24 hours to get another free watch, or you pay. Be aware that if you pay the $5 for 500 coins, you'll get about 5-7 minutes of watch time. I assume what they really want is for you to pay the $60+/year subscription.
I can say that from what I've seen the mini-series really do pull you in, but its very pay-to-watch and the "episodes" that you pay for are very short, not worth the money. Also, I was very interested in paying for unlimited access, however, the only option they offer is a yearly subscription for $90, or a coupon that knocks it down to $70. Thats waay too much to just fork over for a mini-series. Please add monthly subscriptions!!
Personally. I like it. I got the yearly subscription which is honestly a pretty good deal for videos. It's like shorts but netflix style. I like it and for the production that this app has to be used for it makes sense for it to be expensive. Even choices an episode is just as expensive. If you can't afford it don't buy it. But 69 a YEAR is not bad at all. The only things I wish that some of these seasons were longer. 3 is a crowd, and unfortunate friends was great stories. want longer ones
Won't Load it'll play a few episodes that you've probably already seen from the ads like episodes 1-4/5 that constantly play on the ads. however it won't load up the app unless you restart your phone and then it won't load the next episodes. it pushes for you to be a member, but there's not really a point spending $60 a year for episodes you can't watch. it had really good potential though.
Im updating my previous review from 1 star to 3 stars. I still dont like that, I'm not able to earn coins as rewards, but I also noticed that you have no ads, so maybe that's not something you can offer. But your stories are good, and the acting is pretty good compared to others, but if you could please find a way to offer some type of rewards. Even if it's "watch 10 episodes, earn 100 coins" or something as an incentive, that would be great.
Even though production value is better than others (only reason I gave two stars instead of one), there's no way to earn coins. Other apps at least allow you to watch ads or get a daily reward. The only option here is purchasing, and it's way overpriced. One complete series would cost more than my monthly Netflix payment. Ridiculous.
Only lets you watch limited episodes, once you hit your max, you have to wait 24 hrs for another "episode" that's only a couple minutes long. There is NO way to continually get coins, only the original "like our pages" but once you do that, you don't get anymore. They give you the option to "tell us" by giving a link to sign up, only to have no available time slots. Such a scam, which is incredibly disappointing because the stories are actually decent and I would watch them frequently if I could
