This app is LITERALLY just for making payments and shopping for cars. As someone who already made the purchase, I'm HIGHLY upset that I can't make changes to my account like set up paper statements, track the principal amount left against the amount of interest paid. I just finished paying off a car with Capital One and their app had EVERYTHING YOU CAN IMAGINE. Any information you need was provided and easy to find in the app. CarMax needs to step their game up.

It may or may not be a good app for a car search but as far as making payments I advise you stay away. I was charged three extra payments when I had only authorized one and I wasn't behind in my payments. I found out while using my debit card at the Walmart checkout, not cool. I called them and they informed me it would take 15-17 days to refund!!! Beware. When I try to make a payment now, I get an error message. Thanks for nothing carmax.

Uninstalled! Use the website instead; The new version of the app is TERRIBLE! The old app, prior to July 2023 was pretty good. It was fast, intuitive, and looked pretty good. The new version released in July 2023 is a flaming pile of garbage. It signs you out, takes FOREVER to load anything, is not particularly intuitive, contains less information, etc, etc, etc. There is absolutely no reason to use the app instead of the site, and I'm someone who almost always wants an app instead of a site.

You guys had one job and couldn't get it right.. I've been a Carmax customer for 15 or more years and this was a great app. It's useless now. All it does is crash, since the May 2nd update... I uninstalled and reinstalled, it didn't fix it. You can't do anything with it.. Why did you guys try to fix something that didn't need to be fixed? Upset in North Carolina..

Being able to make a payment through the app is absolutely terrible! Every time I try to login it will push me to the CarMax website. It forces me to sign in and then enter an authorization code sent via text only to kick me back to the home screen of the app and shows I'm still not signed in and my session expired. It does this over and over again. They make the interface easier for you to browse shopping for new vehicles than keeping up with the information and accounting for owners.

I don't know what happened between the old version of the app and the new one, but the new version sucks. Keeps crashing, sluggish and slow. Also, the biggest change is removing the option to see 'how much you can afford'. No idea why they would remove that. Won't be using carmax in the future since now they are just like a normal dealership.

I've been using this app heavily this past week during my car search, & this is the worst update I've ever seen for an app. Trying to set search parameters is cumbersome. can't set a maximum mileage, only a minimum. who wants to set a minimum mileage? I can only see one car at a time instead of several, so much more scrolling. The option to see only new listings is gone. I can't view only the cars at my local store. I guess I won't be buying at Carmax. It's so unusable I uninstalled the app.

This app is fine as long as your account NEVER has a hiccup. Used it just fine for years until Covid and I got a few fines and fees. They DO NOT automatically add those to your pay now option. They DO NOT "allocate funds to fees" automatically if you pay past a certain date, but they WILL take your whole car payment towards fees if you pay "too early" and shaft you with a late fee. The best, and honestly only, way to pay off fees correctly is over the phone with multiple calls. Good luck

CarMax has a terrific car buying program but their app is, inexplicably, a disaster. Even with the best, high speed connection, the app freezes, takes an eternity to load a page, and constantly throws error messages. When selecting a listing to see more details, there is only one response: "Hmm...you found a technical error. We'll let our team know." My recommendation is to use the CarMax Web site and avoid this time-wasting app.

Updated app is touchy. The types of vehicles filter is reduced. You can no longer search for all hybrid or electric vehicles. The milage filter is broken. The app only allows you to set the minimum mileage. It does not have sliders to set a range. I'm not sure what's in their next sprint, but it needs to include a number of defect corrections. EDIT: Can you no longer compare vehicles?!?

It took me two days to make a payment last month with the app. I go to make a payment this month and the same delays start with "apologies, system upgrades..." Site says you can call but their is extended wait time. Finally get in and find out last months payment never went through. Really? I can't afford to pay two months at once now. This better not affect my credit. I pay early every month.

Not Very Helpful: I expected to see all of the specifications and facts about the cars that I was interested in. Instead, all I found were photos. Aside from photos, a substantial portion of your screen will be obscured by a bright yellow band practically commanding you to schedule a test drive. I'm sorry, that's a sales move. And that appears to be it. "Look at the pretty pictures. Forget about the details, just rush right down and buy one of our cars."

Tried using this app to make payments easier but it needed me to sign in and verify about 3-4 times over the course of 30 min. Kept kicking me back. Couldn't find access to my (required) account number on the bill they sent. Finally gave up and called in during their business hours, and couldn't get a person. Autocall repeated options on something I already answered. Make your struggle on a computer. Nothing else is worth it.

I miss CarMax Users Plus. I liked that when I logged in, I would immediately see my car. This app makes you dig to see it. The old app let me take photos that stored information about my car. The new app doesn't. I could also keep track of when I needed services easily on the old app. I hate this app because it's still trying to sell cars instead of focusing on the car I bought. This is a poor substitute for an app that was almost perfect. I would give it no stars if it were possible.

ABSOLUTELY the WORST experience in my life! Just check behind any & every single thing they may tell you. They will tell you a LIE quick. We went through 3 different vehicles before we finally just got ALL of our money BACK! Each vehicle had several major things wrong with them. We tried our best each time to continue our business with them, but they couldn't be honest about what was wrong with the vehicles. I would really go spend your $$$ with dependable people.

The app does mostly what I want it too - everything from finding a car to making payments. Not to mention that the car-finding experience is fantastic. The attention to detail and the fact that there are often dozens of photos of the cars is a testament to the amount of work put into this app. However, many paths seem to dead end into "call us". A messaging system would be great!

Ever since the overhaul of this app it has become absolutely infuriating to try and pay every month. Payment source disappears and rarely decides to pull up, if you try to re-enter it it comes up with "technical error" more than likely because it's already recognized in the system. The old version was quick and easy and now it's just hair pulling to try and get anything accomplished as far as payments go. But hey, it looks nice.....

Honestly, what the heck were they thinking when they decided to "update" the app??? I literally had no complaints or problems before!! I was able to make all payments and find anything I needed, super quick and easy. But with this new app update, they make you jump through 30 hoops just to make a car payment! Very frustrating, and makes me almost want to never buy here again! :/

I really like the overall app, but since the last update the photo gallery on the vehicles is gone. I hate that!! I'm not going to request a transfer or buy a car without first seeing as many photos as possible on it, inside and outside!!! So I would've given a 5 star rating, but now it's a 3 star rating!! I'm changing my rating to 1 * and deleting the app. We can no longer look at photos of the inside and outside of the vehicles and decide if we like them enough to request a transfer or not or make an appointment to go view them or test drive them, unless we request a transfer prior to making our minds up on the vehicle first. This is stupid, ridiculous, and I feel it's unprofessional on your part. I was going to purchase a car through you guys but if I can't decide what I like before requesting a car transfer, because I can't see the vehicle prior to doing so, then this is worthless.

Awful, just absolutely awful. Even when the app recognizes it's you and are signed in, if you want to access the account to pay your bill it will force you out of the app and onto the site, defeating the purpose of using the app. From here it will require verification and text/call with a code you need to enter. This can sometimes take a while and on top of that, 90% of the time when you enter the code it will freeze up and do nothing while not allowing you access to your own account and pay.
