Reviews for CBS Sports App: Scores & News

← Back to CBS Sports App: Scores & News

I use this app mainly for my football pick'em league. I have to restart the app frequently due to errors. Also, it often displays inaccurate/old data which is quite unhelpful when one is trying to pick game winners based, in large part, on said data. Also, as a side note: It is unfortunate when a business starts charging a fee for what they used to provide for free. If it was in exchange for say, less advertisements, that would be understandable...

I'm running a pickem pool this year and several players complained about making their picks, saving their picks and coming back to find the app didn't register them. I thought they were crazy, until it happened to me tonight. How can people feel comfortable investing in a pool played on an app that is so unreliable? Completely unacceptable. 1 star, very ghetto. Would not recommend. 😒

The last update took away the widget... Why? 😭 This was by far the best sports scoreboard/widget available. I used it all day every day to see real time scores of multiple games from multiple sports. I'm very upset that they took it away for some reason. I would don't write reviews often and would definitely give this five stars BECAUSE OF the widget. But since it's gone, only a two or three star rating for me :( I have a Pixel 2 XL. Please put the home screen widget back! 🙏

This app is biased towards showing NBA and NFL news. I wanted it to keep up with Men's NCAA basketball, but even with March Madness approaching, most of the front page coverage is NFL and NBA news and videos. And man are there a lot of videos. I guess I'm old-school, but I would much rather read an in-depth article about something than watch a video of the "highlights" of a game. And if you select more than a couple of teams as favorites you will be inundated with notifications on your phone. I turned off notifications two days after I installed this app, it was just so annoying getting notifications 8-10 times a day, especially for news I wasn't interested in, such as for teams/players which were not in my favorites.

Most of the time the app is loading. It will cut away from a game even on 3rd or 4th down, no matter the situation to show an add. The games are almost impossible to watch bc, even with 5g full service, you get about 5 to 7 seconds of video and 10 to 15 seconds of buffering. It's funny however that none of the endless adds ever have a buffering problem. If you try to close the video and open it again to fix the problem you have to sit through adds before it will load the game.

The latest update doesn't allow the user to have the app open, as it did before, to the scores page. It's the news page now. Numerous emails to support and they refuse to say "no, you can't change that" only their standard "we're constantly working to refine..." Yahoo sports is the answer if you want to open an app and see the scores instead of sports gossip. Even here, they seem to respond only to the 5 star reviews. A simple user-controlled setting is all it would take. Sad.

UPDATE: 2-5-2020 Not sure why CBS decided to remove some very useful widgets???? It's not just another sports app. This USED to be the best sports app. Very easy to use and the widgets are top notch. Everything is at a glance. Fast and simple. Update 4-6-17 Used to be better. Now filled with more ads which means I can't read a few sentences without getting pounded by a stationary banner ad along the bottom and one right in the middle of the glorious articles I want to read.

The 2021 update moved this from 4 stars to one at least so far. Before update this was by far the best sports app, replaced ESNP for me. I want scheduled games, reported scores and more only when I click on it. Now it is very hard to figure out with no instructions. Even Googled to find direction with no lick. Only shows a few of the games even with All Conf. For ex, Sat (3/13) it shows one game to be played! Will look for an alternative if they don't fix it soon.

Pretty good App. I like the stories and the ability to open a game to drill down to statistics. I like it for football, basketball and hockey scores. Please consider adding NCAA Volleyball to the App. Division I is attracting larger crowds every year. I would live to see tournament bracket and scores, at the very least, but regular season matches would be nice as well.

It has been glitching the last few times I've used it. The audio and picture don't match, and the video are so jumpy it's almost unbearable to watch. I reset all of my connections and it's still like this... ***Update*** it's 2 years later and the app is still absolute garbage. It doesn't go longer than 5 seconds without buffering, and it's NOT my hardware or connection. Don't offer an app if it doesn't f**king work!

Overall it's ok, but a few things I would like to see improved: 1. In the newest version, scrolling in the box score screen is really buggy. 2. Detailed box score info is only provided for Power 5 schools. If I want to see how many rebounds players on UNCG got, I have to go to a competitor. 3. I would like more access to women's sports. Particularly i want to add women's college basketball to my scores screen. Women's college soccer too. NWSL/WNBA as well.

it's a very good app and easy to use, navigate, & personalize. Lots of interesting articles and up-to-date news. But... (and this is probably more on CBS Sports themselves and not the app, but YESS!! It really bugs me)... Reading some of these articles, does nobody at CBS Sports proofread the articles before they are published?? Over the last 3 years, all varieties, I have encountered massive typos, or just incorrect facts... Aside from that, yes, I like the app.

Completely sucks. I downloaded to watch the Army-Navy game. Video kept freezing up. Then it would start playing again but a big box would cover the screen that says 'unable to play video'. Tons of commercials. Every time I would restart, I would have to watch 3 or 4 commercials (which strangely played just fine every time ) but then when the game came back on, it would freeze up again. This app sucks ... no other word for it.

Streaming video works for about a minute before buffering, stuttering, then stopping completely. Nine months ago it was a problem, and it has only gotten worse. College football, then March Madness, and now the Masters. Hardly ever worked right, no matter the connection and updates and reboots. I know live streams are tricky, and many apps have issues from time to time, but this is maddening!

Used to be a real good sports reporting app. Within sometime in August / September 2018, some update has now made the app drain the batteries on both an iPhone & Android phone that I have. And it seems that the app is always pulling a lot of data constantly, even during a 5 minute read of an article. The power drain was so great that both phones got quite warm all around in about a 10 - 15 minute period. I do not know what what done, but I had to uninstall the app from both phones, which are two different operating systems. Please fix!!!

Update: articles are now disappearing after a few paragraphs, as though the article failed to load completely. At least you can still check scores. Playing highlights and clips is impossible; you are forced to watch a 30-sec ad first, and then sometimes the video you wanted to watch doesn't actually play. Streaming live video rarely works. They publish many "articles" that are really advertisements trying to get you to subscribe to Sportsline, which is annoying.

I love to stay current with all things sports, and I love how they always break in when something happens. Update 5-15-25: VERY UPSET. While reading an article or story now, at a certain point, I am no longer able to scroll anymore, as if the app locks up. This is followed by the app closing and my having to go back in, find the story again, and TRY to reread or finish the item. It's as if there is a time limit now regarding the stories. W. T. F?

getting pretty annoyed with the notification issues. You can customize your notifications but sometimes it just never sends them or it sends you notifications that you don't want. might be changing to fox sports soon... (I have attempted to customize my notifications to no success. I choose not to get news updates but get them anyway, I choose not to get close game notifications but the app just turns them back on automatically. very frustrating!!

Overall, the CBS Sports App is pretty good and does what it says it can do. I myself find that it can often give you updates on sports teams or individual stats on players' tathletes that you want to know more about. I have also found that just like other apps, it may not cover everything you want to know, but all in all, this app has good podcasts that may give you better information on sports, teams, and individuals that you want to know more about.

I used to love the app. It was how I could keep up w/ games which weren't being broadcast in my region. Over the past 5-6 months, the app has continued to degrade. It won't update scores, it won't update play by play or scoring. It'll work for a bit then stops working (zero score updates) on an individual game. Today was the final straw. Checking the Mets & it says homered to center. Missing the player. Next inning it again doesn't have the player who drove in runs. Cleared & reinstalled too
