More features are required. No table of contents (a huge time saver especially in large omnibus files containing entire runs of comics) for quickly navigating chapters. Works with all files I've tried so far. Loading times could be better. The "go to" feature is fair but the page numbers are imposed over the pages as you scroll. Fast scrolling blurs the page number so overshooting the desired page happens frequently.
Reviews for Challenger Comics Viewer
← Back to Challenger Comics ViewerWould give it 5 stars, but I use the opds option and if the external IP to the server changes, you can't edit the existing server information in the app and have to completely sync the comics again from scratch which doesn't save your last read and what comics have been read already etc.
I really love this comic viewer above all the rest I've tried. Just an FYI, though. It seems that if your phone is rooted, root access must be hidden. Otherwise, Challenger kept freezing my phone when I tried to add folders to the library. Strange.
I really enjoy this app, until ... Recently all my PDF files have become unreadable. The text is too fuzzy to read, I've cleared the cache and reset all the options but no go. Other files are still great, just PDFs are too fuzzy to read. Other apps open PDFs just fine...
Updated from my former review: I posted about an issue I was having with the app, and not even 24 hours later, there was an update to fix it!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Seriously, you won't find a better developer or a better app for reading comics than Challenger Viewer. This app is definitely in my top five must have apps on my phone!
Finally, a comic reader that i can sync across multiple devices including cloud based (I've used Dropbox and Google Drive) or network based locations. Fantastic! i wish it had one feature though, to reset the read status on a comic. if you ever add feature I'd be thrilled.
While the looks are definitely not as shiny and modern as one might expect, the functionality of this application blows the competition out of the water. If you are looking far a comic viewer that handels any and all filetypes, this is the one to get.
Great viewer, been enjoying for many years. Encountering a bug with auto loading of .rar files, where it won't automatically reload after the app cold boots. Tried all the different settings. What's annoying is it will auto load properly if you back to home and reopen it, so it's purely a bug.
This is a great app, fast, intuitive and easy to use, and many options to customise how the comic/book displays. The only problem is PDF, it seems to not be able to render PDF properly and many times will appear fuzzy, especially when my tablet is in landscape. A number of my PDFs are unreadable on Challenger due to this and I have to use the tablet's default PDF reader which doesn't have the same intuitive interface. If this issue with PDF was fixed I would easily give this app 5 stars.
Not possible to zoom. Very frustrating. Googling and cycling through the menu with its advance/basic toggle... No pinch nor double tap zoom. It does work on my Note8. But not my Samsung J3 Emerge. Eboox works good though... This is my go to reader when it does work. On my Note8 it's my favorite. But for books on my son's phone I am so frustrated trying to dig through settings and google to find how to zoom, just doesn't work.
Generally works well, but I'm experiencing a strange issue: the image quality is worse in portrait mode than in landscape. I'd like the option to read in either without this compromise. I'm on the Google Pixel 2, but my friend has the same issue and he has a different phone (not sure which though).
So here i had this 600 chapter collection of a comic, trying to convert each to one cbz then to movi for kindle (phone) after numerous tries, gave up, searchex, found a few apps, didn't like em, specially popup ads. Searched, found this, tried, the comics are neatly stacked. If at all, i have one suggestion though, if detailed mode (list view than grid view) could be enabled. If a file's name is too long it doesn't show it completely..
"Google drive" is hidden behind "Open Web". Google Drive is not a website. I never tried it since I wasn't trying to open a comic from a website, but rather from my drive. There are a number of very, very basic UI expectations which are hidden; to select a directory to upload to a new comic book library, you have to long-select any individual file in the directory you wish to add and wait for a pop-up to ask you if you want to use the whole directory. The app is functional but has some fundamental UI/UX issues.
I love this app. Recently had to replace my phone and I realized all the reading progress was gone. Would be great if we can have a login and could restore progress from previous installations or sync progress between different devices. Otherwise this is a 5 star app anyways.
Best reader for Manga & Webtoon. I tried many alternatives but they all either need internet connection or don't have infinite scroll support. This one is scales and works well so far. In desktop, HakuNeko did it right. In phones, this app. Though, It's naming and description made it hard to find.
Nice app, arigato gozaimasu to you developers you've helped me out. But it would be nice if the app would be able to open pdf and gifs, it would make it easier to use, and also try to make the files more accessible through the list. I'm ready to update the app anytime you upgrade it. Reading manga has been more fun.
Great app, been using it for ages, however I've just upgraded to a new phone that doesn't have an SD card slot (I have 135gb of comics) tried storing them on drive but Google blocks it from reading my drive and Dropbox worked but now a bunch of code comes up as an error. Please help me out as this app has gotten me through a lot of things 😅
Checks off all my requirements. Vertical document-style reading, whole document zoom (not separate pages), option for bitmap scale, double-tap zoom in/out, fullscreen reading, border cropping (no useless white space), autoscroll, and some stuff I probably forget right now. It is simple and does what I need it to do. Small suggestion, but not high-urgency: save page as image function.
It's altogether a good app, very clean and the page fills up the whole screen nicely, very easy to use. I'm knocking off two stars, because it does not read .rar/.cbr files, though it says in the description that the app does read .rar. All my files with that extension just won't read, and it's extremely bothersome that I always have to check and convert.
The app is perfect. Just one little issue. It cannot delete comics on the sd card. I assume it doesnt have write access and i couldnt figure out how to give it to the app. Other than that the only app that could handle my library so far. Thx... It still doesnt work. The comic is removed from librarybut not file system. When clicking remove there is an error shown that the .cbr file was not removed correctly. Thx
