Gears didn't work on the bike. no docks available at destination, finding another resulted in an additional 30 min walk and a double charge. not worth it
Reviews for Citi Bike
← Back to Citi Bikeit's good other than it shows ebikes available that are not available and Citibike definitely knows it's not available but still shows them. it makes you travel to the stand just to not find a bike
not really possible to delete personal info!!! they just cycle the answer and don't really help specifically if you are out of USA. Additionally the service relatively to other places in the world is SUPER expensive!!! not worth it
Bikes can be dirty, and the docking stations don't always work. Be mindful: The bike will lock, but the app may not recognize it, and you'll be charged even after docking. Then, reaching customer service is a hassle, and it will take you a long time to have it rectified.
The description says "Claim your free 15-day membership trial" but I never found that. The annual pass is a good deal if you live in NYC but we were just visiting. I loved this service (especially after it popped up 15-day trial for $5), but my husband hated it because he had repeated problems when returning a bike. ALWAYS CHECK THE APP after riding, to make sure it shows the bike was returned properly.
The app has become almost useless. It used to be possible to see ALL docks within an area on the map and the number of bikes and / or docs available. Now, one has to plan a particular trip by entering an address for the start and finish and no options are given for different docs in the vicinity. If I show up at a dock and it is full, there is no way to search for nearby docs with available slots. If I am a bike angel and trying to plan a trip with the app, there is no way for me to choose alternative dock destinations to maximize points. Now, I need to actually go to the Citibike web site and use the map there to locate dock locations on the map before making a trip. The current application is terrible and represents such a downgrade from the old citi bike application that it is actually making me reconsider the utility of my annual membership.
I hate the new app! It's now really hard to see bike angel points on the map (because they're showing the # of electric and regular bikes per station -this should be a toggle to show or not to make the map easier to read). it's impossible to find details of how many bike angel points earned through the month in the app; no button to refresh the map to make sure the counts are updated. And each time you return a bike you're forced to go rate the ride before being able to return to the map
The new app forces you to rate your ride after each one. 1 star until this changes— as well as making ebikes more dependable. Nothing like getting charged for a subscription service only to have the bike die midway 20 minutes from a station. That is if you can manage to find one. The classic bikes are not worth riding as they are unbearably heavy. Do better citibike.
It worked good up until version upgrade and now constantly crashes. I've sent them 4 emails and no real response other than corporate standard response. LG Stylo 3. As of 5/23/18 after 2 new updates and more emails, it's still crashing and no one has bother contacting me. As of 11/23/18 went down to 1 star. Their updates make it worse! Location doesn't work! Super slow getting codes to unlock bike. Sometimes it doesn't get code. Blames my connection. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling few times. Doesn't fix it.
If you're visiting New York City, want this app for the bikes and want to ride an ebike, don't pay for the "Day Pass". It's not what it sounds like and it's purposefully vague at first blush to get you to spend more money than you need to. You'll be charged for the day pass, 19 dollars, but it will only cover the unlock fee, which is 5 dollars. Then you'll be charged for the ride entirely. I spent 40 dollars for a 25 dollar ride and they don't offer refunds once you use the day pass free unlock.
Both bikes and docks are very unreliable, and frequently broken. I cannot begin to count the number of times this faulty service has made me late to work, all because I made the mistake of believing that this was a competently run service. SHAPE UP, CITIBIKE AND LYFT!...or see your customer base go bye-bye. PS— their customer service is just as pitiful; they don't even give you a chance to contact them for help from the app! A truly horribly run service.
Horrible after update Used citibike app for the last 3+ years without a problem. Now I dread having to get a bike, it's an awful experience every time. Half of the bikes don't have a QR code, even if they do only half of the time to they unlock, frequent error messages and bugs all the time in this app. I had to take a cab to work twice in the last two weeks because I couldn't unlock a bike (there were at least 10 at the station). This never happened before. Please fix it!!!!
Citibike is a wonderful resource for getting around this city in a healthy way. It's convenient and wonderful that there are so many stations around where I work and live (northwest Brooklyn and lower Manhattan). My only complaint is that unavailable bikes do not always present as such; at some stations it can take a while to find a bike that actually works.
I would give zero stars but there is no option. Citi Bike is a good idea, but it is pricey. Even if you get the day pass, you still have to abide to the 30 minute ride. Sometimes between traffic and distances, it is difficult to find a dock to return the bike to. We got charged almost $4.36 each for bringing the bike late by a minute...There should be more leniency with the day pass...So we paid $15 for the day pass and then $4.36 on top...
A weird exit prompt whenever I hit the back button? What's up with that? There still appears to be no way to use my phone's NFC instead of a plastic key to check out a bike and still no integration with Google Maps or Now. It still looks and performs like a very poorly ported iPhone app done by someone who had no clue how to write specifically for Android. Also, where is the Bike Angel map? Please do this better!
There is ALMOST ALWAYS a difficulty in docking. And if you are not able to dock properly, you get charged an amount as high as $450. The customer service is not responsive either and even though they get data if an attempt was made to dock a bike and was unsuccessful, they notify you a day later so that they can charge you extra like that.
Super convenient and easy. Pretty seamless real world/app interaction. The fee structure is convoluted and misleading, and the app won't let you get a new bike until you review your last ride, super annoying. If you just scan a bike, you're gonna end up paying more than a 24 hour pass if you plan on using it more than 3 times. Of course, in the 24 hour plan, you get charged after 30 minutes, so you're always stopping to switch bikes.
They lie about empty docks. There are empty docks only on the map. In reality you may look for empty dock for tens of minutes. You can easily look for empty dock in less populated area for half an hour and more. 5 locations with empty docks maybe false, so you keep looking. I tried it around 10 years ago, then 4 years ago and today. Always massive overcharge for ducking problem. Scam.
Although a convenient service, beware of their predatory charging system. Memberships will sometimes not auto renew and they will start charging your cards on file ridiculous prices per ride, which will often be too late once you see them. They do this on purpose as part of their business plan and customer support makes it clear that there's nothing that can be done about it. The only way to potentially get your money back is through contacting your bank and reporting it as what it is, fraud.
The app offers a convenient service but one thing makes it intolerable. Single rides are expensive, so I got the $25 day pass. Expensive, but at last you're covered for the day right? Wrong. You only get 30-minute rides included. After that it's still $0.38 a minute! So you can never get a bike, ride and relax. You ALWAYS have to have your eyes on the clock. After 20 minutes, you're looking for the next parking station to end your trip & start another one, which ruins the experience.
