I tried it free, but only did it a few hours, checking a lot of our loose change, and yes, It was cool seeing our loose change worth a lot more than face value, some were had some amazingly nice value of our coins, alot more than I'd ever expect, I was just looking for a free app, but this was for trial period of 7 days, but I just tried it for a few hours, I do recommend the app, but keep in mind it's not 100 % free!
Reviews for CoinSnap – Coin Identifier
This is a pretty good app. It is amazing how it will scan and recognize coins. I like the Inventory Feature in the Paid Version. I will probably reinstall and subscribe later this winter when I have time to scan all my buckets of coins. What I would like to see is better documentation on pricing and a way in the app to offer a coin or a group of coins to a market of other collectors. And also a way to solicit certain coins for your own collection. But I was very impressed with the interface.
I love the app! It's great for coin collectors, like my fiance and I do. I suggest maybe putting a feature where you can add your friends and family because maybe they want to exchange or buy or sell coins and talk about through the app. A great way to spread the word as well, across the globe. You can make it where they add friends by phone number or Facebook friends, that way they already know each other. Add a block feature that blocks the person when you block then on FB or via contacts.
Good app for beginner. Try to have good lighting when taking pictures or it will skew your grading results. Do NOT rely on your phone's flash, it will wash out the coin with similar results. I woukd like if I grade a coin, I have the ability to save it to "My Collection" right away instead of grading it, THEN retaking pictures for "My Collection". That way, if I'm out and about, I can refer back to it later instead of trying to go home, fish it back out of whichever tube I put it in.
NOT giving up access to any of my accounts until I see how the app works. It's a shame because I have a lot of European coins that I wanted to test this app with. Your loss, my save. Thanks anyway. Give a 24-72 hour totally free preview and I'll bet you will have measurable increases in subscriptions in less time than it will take to find a penny in a parking lot.
Generally useful so far for US coins, but a few bugs and missing features. Ability to share your coin or a collection should be a basic feature, but the share button only sends a link to download the app... a useless promotion. Also, you have to take photos a second time if you want to use the grading feature. Why?? Finally, although your photos show in the main coin list, they are nowhere to be found in the coin detail... Just a sample photo. So nowhere to download or share your own photos.
Great at identifying coins but lacks useful tools to organize and share. There is no way to organize your collection after taking the picture. Also, you can only share a single coin. It would be very useful to be able to share a collection instead of just a single coin. I am enjoying how quickly it identifies the coin, but with no organizational tools, it gets really hard to navigate if you've scanned a large amount of coins.
Does not scan truly For instance does not identify the scanned coin even though it gives another coin description. Also does not save items to a collection. It says saved but when I look the information is not there. l would like to talk to someone if I am doing it incorrectly. Would also like to get an answer my concern . I tried to explain and did not get an answer several months ago. I wanted to keep the subscription I have but be able to use.
I think it would be much more helpful if the description disclosed the fact that this app offers a 7 day free trial and then $40.00 dollars per year thereafter. I didn't bother once I found out the fee. There are other apps that are one time charges that will verify if the particular coin rings true or fake. Weekly charges are 2.99 plus tax. Monthly they incur a $5.99 plus tax and THEN yearly at $39.99 plus tax. There are options . I deleted the app right away.
As a free app It would have some value. The scan is extremely accurate and does help to hone in on the origin country, which is useful for early Asian coins. That's about all the positive, I can say, though. Once the scan is complete, it makes suggestions about what the coin likely is. The problem is that much of the reference is incorrect. For example I scanned several Chinese, Japanese and Vietnamese Cash Coins. Generally the period and denomination were correct however the references wrong.
