So here's my honest take on Color Gear: color wheel. I've tested a bunch of color tools and palette generators, and this one is pretty solid. The color wheels and harmony options give you a lot of flexibility to play around and come up with cool color combos. And i like that it supports both RGB and RYB color models. The ability to extract palettes from images is also a nice touch. But it does have a bit of a learning curve, and the UI could be a little more intuitive. Overall though, it's a pretty useful app that I'd recommend to any designers or artists looking to level up their color game.

Pros

  • Tons of color theory features like color wheels and harmony schemes
  • Can extract palettes from images, which is super handy
  • Free to use, don't have to pay for the basic tools
  • Looks great and runs smoothly, even on older phones
  • Lots of flexibility to experiment and find interesting color combos

Cons

  • Interface can be a little confusing at first
  • Some of the advanced features are locked behind a paywall
  • Crashes occasionally, especially when uploading large images
  • Gets a bit repetitive after a while, could use more palette inspiration

Description

I’ve been using Color Gear: color wheel for a couple months now. It’s basically an app that helps you create cool color palettes using color theory principles. Pretty solid if you’re into graphic design, art, or just messing around with colors.

Here’s what you do: you can pick between an RGB color wheel or an Itten color wheel, and then choose from different color schemes like complementary, split-complementary, and so on. There’s also a feature where you can upload an image and it’ll generate a palette based on the colors. Took me a while to figure that out but it’s pretty useful.

Look, if you’re into color stuff and want an easy way to experiment, you’ll probably like this app. It’s not perfect – the interface can be a little confusing at first – but overall it does the job. Worth checking out if you’re a designer or just a color nerd like me.
