You have to purchase a hardware component for this app (camera?). This is totally unnecessary. If you use a white calibration sheet, such as white printer paper, any modern phone camera should be able to capture the true color of paint. The app would identify the reference sheet, then adjust its "color balance" to make the reference sheet white, then match the surrounding paint color to a library.
Reviews for ColorSnap® Match
← Back to ColorSnap® MatchSOLUTION: dowload the ben moore Color Portfolio app. Click "Color Capture," upload your photo (crop out all but paint color). Take the color code over Match My Paint Color website...it will give you the closest match in EVERY paint brand, included SW!! REVIEW: I'm also experiencing it sitting indefinitely at the loading screen. Thought it might be a data issue, but doesn't work on wifi either. Uninstalled, reinstall, cleared cache and data, tried logging in & as guest; nothing gets it to load!
I'm a contractor, so I can't be standing there in front of customer and having this thing refuse to pair unless I uninstall the app and install it again. Also ridiculously, it's not in my list of apps. I have to go to the Google Play store to search by Sherwin and then find the app there, then I can open it. When it does work, I think it does a fairly good job. Which it should do do reliably for $100 Canadian for the device.
Requires a peripheral tool, why make an app for a phone when the phone app just comprimises your privacy and nothing else.. the phone has a camera, it can take pictures, it can more than likely do what the peripheral is doing.. the app is just a gateway to buy something you will only use a few times then on to the junk drawer. Lame!!!! The sad thing is the homedepot app actually works with the camera no peripheral.
When I started using this tool I had no expectations on what it could do, and maybe as a result of that I think this is an awesome gadget and it works great for me. Use it to scan fabric or whatever to get paint color ideas, don't expect something at this price to be capable of an exact paint color match.
Not actually convinced this is a legitimate application. It immediately requested to 'Allow Match to find, connect to, and determine the relative position of nearby devices?' and some other permissions as well, and didn't open or load otherwise. Very strange, immediately uninstalled. You're a paint matching app, why do you need these permissions?
I wanted to install the app and the choose a pic from my phone gallery of a wall color to see what a close match would be but I can't do this it seems. The app wants me to connect a device to the app. A color scanning device??? Not useful. I just wanted to pick from my gallery or take a new pic with my phone in the least.
app wouldn't start. why does it need to find the location of nearby devices? absolute lunacy.
Looks like a beta. A lot of the words are truncated. Will only give a match for a SW color. No option to have it make a cuatom color. As a result, some accent colors seem impossible to match. Have a customer who used a different brand of paint and we can't match it with the app.
completely broken on android. I have to use an iPhone to even connect to the device.
Does not want to connect to the color match tool. Worked first time for 2 colors then have never been able to get it to connect again. Deleted app and reinstalled multiple times, reset color match tool and still nothing. App actually can see the device, just will not connect to it. I'm not contacting your help.support.customer service whatever, you can read.
You have to get a device from Sherwin Williams to use the app. I just need to find out what color the outside of my house is to get some touch up paint. App is useless.
interesting tool. Really wish it would let me save raw data and/or the whole pallet of possible color matches. instead I can only associate one color at a time to wall
great for our jobs but I wish the colors were more accurate, because of the light you can't get the correct colors
Misleading to get your personal data. It requires to sync with an EXTERNAL color sensor (Bluetooth), instead of your smartphone camera. A waste of time...
app refuses to do anything without permission to scan for other devices. you don't need that permission to use the camera
I like the ability to color match, but I wish you could save the original color scan in the folder along with the paints they offer that best match it.
Won't do anything. It appears that it will not function without location enabled and permission to connect to other devices. Neither of these are necessary for its basic function and constitute a security risk if enabled. I do not recommend this app.
Although the app crashes frequently and requires pairing too often it has been a helpful tool. Especially with not being able to meet all of our clients. Color coordination is made easier wirelessly. I can put together folders for clients to review and choose from. I went so far as to color match our cabinet and tile samples so we can "translate" them into SW colors rather than attempt to describe them or depending on pictures that will vary with different monitors.
Disappointing and Misleading I expected this tool to provide custom paint color codes based on scanned surfaces, but unfortunately, it only suggests the closest Sherwin-Williams color—no actual custom color output. Even worse, it doesn’t allow you to save scanned images for future reference. This app had a lot of potential, but it falls short in key areas. A major letdown.
