Description
I’ve been using Conversations (Jabber / XMPP) for a couple months now. It’s basically a free and open-source chat app that lets you talk to friends and family on the Jabber/XMPP network. Pretty solid app if you’re into secure messaging.
Here’s what you can do – you can send text messages, share images, make encrypted calls, and even join group chats. And there’s also built-in support for end-to-end encryption with OMEMO or OpenPGP, which is pretty cool. And it syncs with the desktop version, so you can chat on the go or at your computer.
Look, if you’re looking for a private, no-frills chat app, you’ll probably like this. It’s not perfect – the interface can be a bit clunky at times – but overall it does the job. Worth checking out if you want an alternative to WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger.
Editor Opinion
So here's my take on Conversations (Jabber / XMPP). I've tested a bunch of secure messaging apps and this one's pretty good. The end-to-end encryption is a big plus, and I like that it doesn't require a Google account. And the interface is simple and easy to use, though it can feel a bit dated compared to some newer chat apps. But the core functionality is solid, and it's great that it's open-source. If you're looking for a private, no-frills chat app, this is definitely worth considering.
