The versatility of app is great. If it cannot scrape the information from the recipe site. You can manually add. The plus is being able to access on a desktop, which makes copy and pasting so much easier. Once saved on app using desktop, it'll sync to your chosen device once you open app. I use a tablet, easier to read with bigger screen. I'm using the free 40 and is great. I'm at 37 recipes at the moment and once I reach the 40 threshold, I won't hesitate the lifetime purchase.
Reviews for CookBook - Recipe Manager
← Back to CookBook - Recipe ManagerExcellent app! And has a browser version too! Lets you make meal plans and makes auto grocery lists from the ingredients when you choose your recipe. Thank you for a great app! Also imports recipes from wrb urls, and lets you take a picture of a recipe on paper and it converts it with a little help on your part, into a recipe in the app complete with picture !! I love the app, give it a try!!
Overall, I think this is my favorite recipe manager. I wanted a simple, straightforward app for storing my own recipes and easily copying recipes from other sites. The supporting web app is awesome and recipe importer has been flawless so far. My only complaint is the layout of recipes. I'm not in love with the "tabbed" design for ingredients and instructions, I think I'd rather have a more linear/scrolling view for reading recipes. I'd love to see some other view options in the future.
I paid for the upgrade and have been disappointed since. When copying via a url, measurements do not always come out right; seems the app wants to put numbers in front of items sometimess, so I'm always having to go back to the internet site to check them. I don't bother contacting the programmer, because last time I did, I did not get a solution to another problem. NOW, the "improved" shopping cart is only made to take items from recipes; I can't have an editable, independent list.
We'll worth the price. It's like transferring your recipes to index cards with almost no effort AND being able to sort them to find or get ideas for exactly what I want. From internet recipes to my mom's recipe cards to recipe books, I can add them all and look at them from any device. The meal planner is great. The only thing I don't rate as 5 stars is the grocery list.
Years ago, I bought this app before they turned into a subscription service. I was told that I was grandfathered in, and could still use it. A few months ago, they discontinued my 'deprecated version' of the app. No problem, I'll just use the website. Login today and im told you only get 40 recipes. I need to delete 25 recipes to be able to continue viewing the content that I painstakingly entered over years. I just cant help but view these as blatantly predatory business practices.
this is my absolute favorite recipe organizer app I have ever used! If you're looking for a recipe organizer that makes cooking and meal planning effortless, CookBook is a must-have! This app shines in its ability to sort and categorize recipes with ease, thanks to its intuitive tagging system. Whether you're looking for quick meals, healthy options, or international cuisine, finding the perfect recipe for the day is just a tap away.
I like the app the font the layout. I didn't mind that you had to switch tabs under the recipe, although maybe having it in one place would be good too. But I didn't like is that you only get to store 20 free recipes for the free version. Then it's a monthly subscription. I would rather have seen a one-time buying at a certain price for all the additional features. I deleted it found something else
The best recipe manager app that I've used so far. My favorite feature is that I can plan my meals for the week and have it generate a shopping list for me. I'd love to see a social integration, where I can follow and share my recipes with friends (you currently can do this, but it's via sending files over email). Another great feature would be being able to see how you're doing against your macro goals when planning meals for the week. Otherwise a great app!
Currently sad as I imported a first recipe with a url. Had to fill in a lot of info and add photos. Now that I'm trying to save it, it won't let me continue without stopping a photo upload. The photo it's trying to upload is still from originally importing it. It is not allowing me to cancel the upload as it's just a loading circle. And I don't have the option to continue without saving the un-uploaded photo.
I just got this app, both on my PC and phone. Finally! It's been probably over a decade, and finally technology has given me exactly what I want and more! I wanted to organize my collection of magazine and book recipes, then search by ingredient. This app does that and more. The AI was able to take a phone photo that I took of a magazine clipping, in questionable light and with TWO recipes in the photo, and not only separate the first and discard the 2nd automatically, but flawlessly added.
This app has been everything I was waiting for in a recipe app. The recipe adding is simple, tag system is awesome for organization, and it has a web app that lets you edit and add recipes in your browser, which is amazing. I reached out to their support team and they were incredibly helpful in getting the issue I was having, which was more user error than anything, resolved. Great app I can see using for several years.
I have really enjoyed this app. I use it for all my recipes. It does a great job of downloading various formats of recipes. I'm generally cooking for a larger group and I really like how I'm able to adjust the serving sizes and the ingredients automatically adjust also. I chose the lifetime version, because I want to be able to rely on it always being available.
Love it, and wanna love it more. I absolutely love how many different methods I have for getting the recipes into the app. Love that I can use it on my phone or laptop. Main thing I'm not loving is the ability to create shopping lists based on my recipes. The combination of ingredients from different recipes creates weird quantities and so far hasn't produced the "easy to shop from" list that I was hoping for. Keep making those improvements, developers! Great product. I'm a lifer and happy.
This is an updated review. I rated 5 starts with compliments before, had to change it to 2 because of the service. The time I purchased the app it was for one time payment, not monthly, not yearly. I have over 200 recipes saved then suddenly my account is limited now. Turns out I have to pay again. I don't think these changes should have been applied to the existing customers. I accepted those terms not these. I don't wanna have surprises in the future. I won't continue using the app.
Best app of its kind I have found. I tired many others, and almost every one was a bloated mess trying to be a social media app. I don't want 10,000 recipes from random people or food blogs. I want a app that can consolidate the recipes Ive tested into one place, lets me do meal planning, scales recipes, and generates shopping lists, and that's exactly what this app does. I bought a lifetime sub over a year ago and it was worth every penny. A++ for simplicity and utility.
I have been using this app for years and love its ease of use, importing, and simplicity. It is easy to find popular recipes using the recent recipes option. Import your favorites using any URL. One bug note about the import feature: After copying the URL you have to go into the app, go out of the app, and then go back in for the import to work. It has worked like that on two phones now. Not a deal breaker but just an extremely minor inconvenience. Otherwise, everything appears to work well.
The new update glitches all the time. ever since the app was updated. It constantly freezes whenever open it. So disappointed, especially since I literally just had paid my annual fee . My Android phone is up to date so this is because of app update. It seems this app update was released way too soon before it was properly tested. please either fix this ASAP, or enable us to revert back to the previous version
Update: I changed to one-star briefly but the most recent update brought back swiping between the ingredients and instructions (thank you!). The new logo is a huge disappointment though. Old: Quite genuinely my favorite app I've ever stumbled upon. Well worth paying the developers for their hard-earned efforts. Been using it for many years. Introduced my fiance to it when we first met and he also lives by it- we each have a lane (cooking vs. baking haha) and CookBook is a kitchen staple.
Love the app. It is very easy to use and search. However, I personally would like to store more than 20 recipes, and I can't see myself paying $60/Yr for the rest of my life to unlock to store more than that. There are other products where you can customise and print out recipe books at a one-off cost.
