Description
So I’ve been using CookShelf for a couple months now. It’s basically an app that helps you make the most of your cookbook collection. Like, got too much zucchini in the summer and no idea what to do with it? Or trying to find that one Bolognese recipe you love but can never remember where it’s at? CookShelf lets you search across all your cookbooks by ingredient, dish type, or whatever you’re craving. It shows you exactly which book has what you need and the page number.
The core feature is pretty simple – you scan in your cookbooks and it builds a database of all the recipes. Then you can just search and it pulls up the right page. There’s also a meal planning tool which is kinda cool. And you can save favorite recipes too, so it’s easy to find them later.
Look, if you’re someone who loves real cookbooks but hates not being able to find stuff, you’ll probably dig this app. It’s not perfect – the scanning can be a pain and the meal planner could use some work. But overall it does the job pretty well. Worth checking out if you’re into cooking and have a ton of cookbooks lying around.
Editor Opinion
So here's my take on CookShelf. I've tried a bunch of cooking/recipe apps and this one's a pretty solid option. The core functionality of being able to search across your entire cookbook collection is really useful and works well. I like that it bridges the gap between digital and physical cookbooks - you get the convenience of a recipe app without having to abandon your actual books. The scanning process can be a bit tedious, but once you've got your books added it's smooth sailing.
Compared to similar apps, CookShelf has a nice balance of features without being overly complicated. The meal planner is a nice bonus, and the ability to save favorites is handy. It's not gonna blow you away, but it does everything it promises to do. If you're a home cook with a big cookbook collection, I'd say it's worth giving CookShelf a try.
