So here's my honest take on Couch to 5K®. I've tested a bunch of running/fitness apps and this one's pretty solid. The training plan is well-designed and the different coaches are a nice touch to keep you motivated. I like that it integrates with your music and tracks your progress. On the downside, the virtual coaches can get repetitive and the app isn't the most polished in terms of design. But for a free app that actually gets results, I'd say it's worth giving a shot if you're new to running.

Pros

  • Solid training plan designed by real experts
  • Multiple virtual coaches to choose from to keep it fresh
  • Integrates with your music to make workouts more enjoyable
  • Tracks your distance, pace, and routes with free GPS

Cons

  • Virtual coaches can get annoying after repeated use
  • App design is a bit dated and could use an update
  • Requires 20-30 minutes 3 times a week, so not super flexible

Description

Been using Couch to 5K® for a couple months now. It’s basically an app that helps you train for your first 5K run, even if you’re a total couch potato. Basically, you just do 20-30 minute workouts 3 times a week for 9 weeks and they’ll get you from zero to 5K – pretty neat, right?

Here’s what you do: the app has a training plan designed by real trainers, and you just follow along. There’s also different virtual coaches you can pick, like Sergeant Block or Constance, who give you audio cues to keep you going during the workouts. And it’s got a music player so you can listen to your own tunes. Plus it tracks your distance, pace, and routes using GPS.

Look, if you’re trying to get into running but don’t know where to start, you’ll probably like this app. It’s not perfect – the virtual coaches can get a little annoying after a while – but overall it does the job and gets you across that finish line. Worth checking out for sure.

I have not run in many years, but running consistently the last 6 weeks have made me realise how much I miss running. This would be a really good app...

Don't spend $5 on this. It was $1.99 when I bought it a decade ago, and it really hasn't been updated much. The GPS is still broken. The in built...

I do not like running and honestly, I may never like running, so getting to a 5k isn't remotely of interest to me. I DO want to feel healthier though....
