I've had an account for a few years now. It's a great service, interface design, and large library. Recently they started playing ads. I pay for a fan subscription. That is the highest subscription. I expect no ads. Keep that for the lesser subscriptions. I can't even skip them like I can on my mobile app when I'm watching on TV. Change it back, or I'll just stick with Hulu, where when I pay for no ads, I don't get ads. Full on sub cancel. I can't stand ads, that's why I pay for subscriptions.
Reviews for Crunchyroll
← Back to CrunchyrollHas most of the anime you want. Occasional censoring, subpar translations, slowing, and/or freezing are frustrating and happen way too often. The search is suboptimal, to say the least. I've used it for years because I want to support anime, but with no real significant improvements to the experience, make paying the monthly really hard to recommend.
non-skippable ads with premium! this legit started today, while I was used to the occasional ad for other show, they were at least able to be skipped. now it's the same content, but the ads aren't able to be skipped and are in the middle of my episodes, I fast forwarded though the episodes and just ended up with five 30 sec ads. if your response says ANYTHING about the ads being skippable, you're wrong! they absolutely are not, and I'm not just missing it... please don't insult me like that
i use the app on Fire TV, and my main complaint is that the ads are so broken. I used to have premium but money is hard right now. Sometimes the app crashes and I have to restart my episode, but it doesnt save where i left off. So the app plays ads first, then I skip to where I left off, where it proceeds to play 6 ads. Wouldnt be bad if it didnt play the show for only 3 seconds just to play ANOTHER 6 ads. If that could be fixed, that would be wonderful.
They play ads- "previews" for other shows- before most episodes, even if you pay. They also just changed the app to be worse with its UI, pushing their useless games section to the top and making it way more of a pain to add series to your watchlist. App and service has actively been getting worse since the update where they removed commenting. This app makes me miss limewire. At least I'd be able to skip the ads there while being fed content i didn't want.
The app has been making some good improvements lately, but please, let us use our SD card storage for downloaded episodes. Netflix, Disney+, and Prime Video let you download episodes to your device's SD card, so why can't this app do the same? Please make it finally happen. That's all that's missing for me, and with that I could give this app 5 stars.
I have been a member of Crunchyroll since late 2008 so here are my thoughts. Positive: - More anime content than any other service. Notably, you can expect 40-60 nearly simulcast shows every quarter. App is also pretty clean and easy to use, and 7.99 USD monthly is a great price. Negative -There have been recent issues of anime episodes not properly posting on time, and other various technical issues (temporary missing or wrong subs, not on release calender etc.) Recommended despite issues.
Words can't explain how mad I am with this app, but I'll give it a shot. There are around 7 shows you can watch without forking over an absolutely insane amount of hard-earned cash, but the ones you can watch are almost always in Japanese. When you watch said shows, the subtitles turn off every time you get an ad break, which can get up to 6 mins long. Not to mention that, when you go to settings to turn on subtitles again, you're almost instantly greeted with another ad break. DO NOT GET THIS!!
They've fixed the most annoying bugs. Now they need to fix the "continue watching" and to list what language episodes are dubbed in without having to click on the episode because the second it plays for lodges it FIRMLY in your "continue watching," and you can only select BY EPISODE that you've watched it, to get rid of it. Sometimes that doesn't even work! The app has come a long way but there's still work to do.
It's got a great collection of shows, and the quality is good even on the free ad tier. Only problem is the ads themselves. They're quite long and intrusive, but that's not the real problem; I'll accept that since it's the free tier. What's really annoying is often the ads just don't load, so my episode just freezes and nothing happens, and then I have to restart the app and try and get back to where I left off, being forced to watch another whole batch of ads in the process. Great anime selection, and the cost isn't bad, even if I perfered when it was just funimation. However, when you pay for no ads, you should get NO ads. You will have pop-ups for new shows and a skipable preview for a different anime at the start of your session. There is no way to turn these off. Good luck reaching support, an AI will ask you to repeat your problem at least 8 times. edit for response: No, it's an ad. subscription isn't worth my money anymore with tactics like that.
Keeps saying no network, but I'm fully connected to network and wifi and internet. Crunchyroll, please fix your end. My end is fine. I've been getting annoyed getting the notification in the middle of watching anime. I hate interruptions. If this does not get fixed, I'm going somewhere else. I have a subscription, and I'm getting ads. I'm supposed to not get ads.
ah wtv, im starting to get tired of your overpriced and not working app, for that much as a subscription why are the updated episodes are always late, and shows pop on on newly added but there are no new episodes, or impossible to see what was added, if that keeps happening again ill rather pirate the shows, and I am leaving a 1 star review, cause the wait time to connect to someone is ridiculous, one of the worst subscription app.
The streaming service side of the app is nice. I don't have any real complaints, I currently have the mega fan subscription and I'd say it's worth the price for how often I watch, shop, and how many people use my account. As for the shop side of the app, it SUCKS. It's so sketchy, I often don't get a tracking number or a receipt with my purchases. Currently, however, the shop is so buggy and slow that I can't even use it
It works. Nice selection. However, there is a ton of movies and shows that are not available on crunchyroll. I would like the option to save a profile to a device rather than having to choose my profile every time I open the app. Or an option to open a specific profile as a default. There's multiple profiles on my account, this would make things so much easier and convenient.
This app is tanking. First they add ads for other anime to every episode I open even on premium, then they use AI for subtitles, and now we get bad subtitle typesetting that is harder to read. In response to the Crunchyroll app reply, that doesn't fix the annoying recommendation when I start a show. Let me turn this off. Either way, I don't think the sub is worth it anymore, unfortunately.
I've been watching attack on Titan on this app perfectly fine. but once I got to season 1 episode 27, I couldn't play it. or literally any other episode of any other TV show. the constant 403 connection issue, supposedly. even though literally any other video playing program on my phone works perfectly fine. so I uninstalled and reinstalled Crunchyroll. and now it's preventing me from watching anything because I'm a free user. pretty sure I have a subscription, as I never dealt with ads.
way too many ads for nob paying users unless you watch on laptop. otherwise, prices aren't bad, so three stars. getting three ad breaks per episode, and 6 ads per ad break, as well as each ad being 30s to 120s is too much, and if the app crashes, I have to rewatch all thise ads. this is especially bad on the Nintendo switch. I spend more time on the switch watching ads than anime, because the ap loads the ads, but fails to load the show. That is around 6 minutes
This review has been changed from 5 stars due to a change in the platform. I am a PAYING subscriber. And I don't even have the lowest tier available. So you WILL be removing the forced ad at the beginning of every new episode I watch. I don't pay for Crunchyroll WITH ads, so stop showing them. Period. I will also be reimbursed for the last few months of being given Crunchyroll with ads. Edit: I do not care what you call them, an ad is an ad. and it breaks the ad free experience I PAY for.
Okay selection. it has the majority of shows you'd want to watch. My only issues are 1) it constantly freezes up on me. I'll have to close the app out or I won't be able to select anything 2) sometimes the audio/subtitles won't work. ex: it'll play Spanish when I have English selected. and 3) (the worst one) I pay for the most expensive subscription and yet STILL almost everytime I click on crunchyroll it'll tell me i dont have a subscription and ill have to cancel and repay it or it won't work.
