I've had an account for a few years now. It's a great service, interface design, and large library. Recently they started playing ads. I pay for a fan subscription. That is the highest subscription. I expect no ads. Keep that for the lesser subscriptions. I can't even skip them like I can on my mobile app when I'm watching on TV. Change it back, or I'll just stick with Hulu, where when I pay for no ads, I don't get ads. Full on sub cancel. I can't stand ads, that's why I pay for subscriptions.
Reviews for Crunchyroll
Has most of the anime you want. Occasional censoring, subpar translations, slowing, and/or freezing are frustrating and happen way too often. The search is suboptimal, to say the least. I've used it for years because I want to support anime, but with no real significant improvements to the experience, make paying the monthly really hard to recommend.
non-skippable ads with premium! this legit started today, while I was used to the occasional ad for other show, they were at least able to be skipped. now it's the same content, but the ads aren't able to be skipped and are in the middle of my episodes, I fast forwarded though the episodes and just ended up with five 30 sec ads. if your response says ANYTHING about the ads being skippable, you're wrong! they absolutely are not, and I'm not just missing it... please don't insult me like that
i use the app on Fire TV, and my main complaint is that the ads are so broken. I used to have premium but money is hard right now. Sometimes the app crashes and I have to restart my episode, but it doesnt save where i left off. So the app plays ads first, then I skip to where I left off, where it proceeds to play 6 ads. Wouldnt be bad if it didnt play the show for only 3 seconds just to play ANOTHER 6 ads. If that could be fixed, that would be wonderful.
They play ads- "previews" for other shows- before most episodes, even if you pay. They also just changed the app to be worse with its UI, pushing their useless games section to the top and making it way more of a pain to add series to your watchlist. App and service has actively been getting worse since the update where they removed commenting. This app makes me miss limewire. At least I'd be able to skip the ads there while being fed content i didn't want.
The app has been making some good improvements lately, but please, let us use our SD card storage for downloaded episodes. Netflix, Disney+, and Prime Video let you download episodes to your device's SD card, so why can't this app do the same? Please make it finally happen. That's all that's missing for me, and with that I could give this app 5 stars.
I have been a member of Crunchyroll since late 2008 so here are my thoughts. Positive: - More anime content than any other service. Notably, you can expect 40-60 nearly simulcast shows every quarter. App is also pretty clean and easy to use, and 7.99 USD monthly is a great price. Negative -There have been recent issues of anime episodes not properly posting on time, and other various technical issues (temporary missing or wrong subs, not on release calender etc.) Recommended despite issues.
Words can't explain how mad I am with this app, but I'll give it a shot. There are around 7 shows you can watch without forking over an absolutely insane amount of hard-earned cash, but the ones you can watch are almost always in Japanese. When you watch said shows, the subtitles turn off every time you get an ad break, which can get up to 6 mins long. Not to mention that, when you go to settings to turn on subtitles again, you're almost instantly greeted with another ad break. DO NOT GET THIS!!
They've fixed the most annoying bugs. Now they need to fix the "continue watching" and to list what language episodes are dubbed in without having to click on the episode because the second it plays for lodges it FIRMLY in your "continue watching," and you can only select BY EPISODE that you've watched it, to get rid of it. Sometimes that doesn't even work! The app has come a long way but there's still work to do.
It's got a great collection of shows, and the quality is good even on the free ad tier. Only problem is the ads themselves. They're quite long and intrusive, but that's not the real problem; I'll accept that since it's the free tier. What's really annoying is often the ads just don't load, so my episode just freezes and nothing happens, and then I have to restart the app and try and get back to where I left off, being forced to watch another whole batch of ads in the process.
