100% recommend although I'll say I don't use it as often as Breethe because once I figured out that you can't move past a certain level without doing various homework exercises I didn't have time right then. I like and don't like it about it lol! Once I get these done I look forward to exploring more of the app! I constantly recommend it to my chronic pain patients and tell them even if they don't want to end up buying it then installing it and learning about the science of pain is SO VALUABLE!
Reviews for Curable: Chronic Pain Relief
← Back to Curable: Chronic Pain ReliefMostly junk, with some helpful info. While some of the ideas are "science based", it's not like the exercises themselves have had significant clinical trials (for example somatic tracking). The format of chatting with an assistant where they decide your daily exercise is highly annoying. Just organize the content like a normal app, I legitimately despise having to enter a forced conversation with this half witted AI. I also strongly dislike the main narrator voice. D minus.
Wanted to love it; paid version seems to be nothing more than the regular app. I did the first ten or so free exercises and was like great, love it, not sure exactly how this works exactly but it kept promising all would be revealed with the paid version so I bit the bullet and paid. The app looks exactly the same and keeps making me go through the same fake chat every time. The chat function only gives you a pre-canned answer so its pretty infuriating by the third or fourth time.
This app is immediately life changing. I've experienced several capital T traumatic events in my life. I've locked them in a fortified safe at the bottom of the ocean abyss. I thought that was the end of it. I've come to learn that there's a chain holding me to that box, drowning me in unconscious pain. Because this app puts the keys in my hand, shows me how I am capable of taking control of my life, I can unlock the chains and the stuff in the box just floats away. I have been set free.
just starting out so I can't give a 5 starting review..so far this is great. Update: changed to 3 srara..the contents is very good. Here's what I'd change but Curable support is lacking. Several complaints came in from other members who would like options for other voices in meditation and I general. You get a female voice very nasaly sounding child. No other choices and if your hard if hearing you'll never hear it. The actual app is nit immediately user friendly. Constantly going over things
I love with CPTSD and chronic pain and this has become one of my go-to resources. I love the range of exercises, and being a science nerd, the knowledge is invaluable. If I can talk my way through the biology of stress, it helps me so much more in managing my symptoms. Curable's video series and Groups program were amazing as well. If I could only have one app on my phone, I think this would be it.
I am sorry, I cannot deal with the voice for the meditations. There should be an option to choose another voice. It sounds like she is trying to seduce me, and having problems in that area it is freaking me out. I can't even do them anymore, I have to use Insight Timer. I am basically limited to the writing exercises, which are interesting, but triggering. My anxiety seems to be increased by this process. I also wish you could pay for a month at a time to try before you commit to a year
I just downloaded the app, was guided through set-up, listened to the intro, and then was asked to commit to subscribe without seeing price or subscription options upfront. Why would I get a 50% off code in my email but no idea of price or plan? Really poor first impression with the lack of transparency, huge turn-off, and makes me not trust trying it out. Maybe try a less hip and more direct approach.
This app has helped reduce the pain of my migraines, so I'm very grateful. However, they refuse to make all of the transcripts available to their exercises, so they're not accessible. It's really disappointing to see this kind of blatant ableist discrimination in an otherwise helpful app. EDIT: A word-for-word transcript is 1000x better than no transcript. You can always revise them later. Shouldn't have put out inaccessible content in the first place.
I have a paid year long subscription. It was expensive for me and unfortunately I won't be able to renew. I have tried to use this app and have had mild success lowering pain levels during a migraine. However, the meditation portion is disappointing. After a long period of silence (no music) the woman starts talking again and it's always very jarring to me. There are a lot of alternative resources I have found for meditation that are much more relaxing and effective.
Beware! They claim to "offer" a refund if you cancel within 30 days. So, I naively opted to give it a try but it wasn't for me. I canceled w/i 30 day and didn't receive a refund. When I attempted to follow-up was directed to submit a request that would be followed up, if they determined that I qualified. 3 months after no refund...guess I didn't "qualify". Noted that you had to make sufficient use prior to cancellation! Which was NOT made clear up front. Total Bull & a rip-off in my opinion!
I've only just started using curable and I really like it! It's easy to navigate and gives me the direction I was searching for. People tell you to meditate, but this actually helps direct that. People tell you to search out therapy and guidance, but here it's easy to find. The app finds the resources you need without you have to spend hours searching. I feel like I might actually be able to find ways to overcome the chronic pain signals I've had for years.
Content is useful, tho app itself is very buggy, a data hog, and crashes continually when trying to listen to audio. In 48 hrs it devoured over 2 gigabytes of data, (mostly foreground data) tho it was only in use for less than an hr. Problem definitely with app,not with my device. Also don't like the typical scammy internet business model. A free offer that doesn't offer much, but they'll up the game if you pay for a year. Then if you want access to groups its 1,200 bucks ,
I have a long history of Repetitive Stress Injury, and this app seems to be helping. I found it compelling enough to go ahead and pay for the first year. Only thing: can y'all re-record the audio for the meditations, or offer options? The speaker sounds like she's narrating an ASMR session. I really believe in the value of meditation, but I essentially cannot listen to the recordings when they sound like this. Something more plain (not in a whisper) would be great.
Good info on pain science; nice selection of exercises. A quick-search option to find favorite exercises would help. My last point is very subjective & YMMV: I find the speaker's voice distractingly uneven. I'd hoped this would ease as with past audio programs, once I've gotten used to a speaker. But it hasn't. This app would greatly benefit from a voice actor or speaker with a stronger, more polished delivery. Not a deal-breaker, but it detracts from enjoyment of meditations & visualizations.
Content is good, I've paid for lifetime membership, however it crashes a lot. Very frustrating to be listening to "expert interviews"and have it cut out. Then, rather than getting back to the same place, it starts at beginning or crashes. Also going back a bit or forward in audios is not easy. When listening on headphones you can't pause it from headphones or go forward or back. I really want to love this app but it's a pain to use. Which is kind of funny since pain reduction is the goal here.
I've traveled a long way in 65 yrs along many paths in terms of pain (physical & otherwise). I'm already familiar with many approaches/tools. Yet I'm finding Curable very helpful. Partly it's being reminded of essential practices that are endlessly beneficial. It's like the discipline of a dancer, you don't get to a point of attainment & then can stop maintaining - you get up every day and practice, over & over. Some of it is new & profoundly simple information and tools. Brava!
Great Program to Help You Help Yourself. There are lots of tools but I wish I could see them and choose for myself instead of choosing "education, writing, brain training, etc" and then the app chooses which in that category to give me. There is probably a reason for this route, just haven't discovered it yet. Really like the expert interviews - and I can choose which of those I want to hear. So far they have helped me the most. Have recommended Curable to my Facebook Psoriatic Arthritis group.
My pain dr recommended this app and I'm looking forward to continuing with it, but could there be a more unnessecary, penetrating sound effect to emphasize key points in the audio lessons? They're a little louder than the narration and are like a bell ringing inside my already headachy brain. But pain is in the brain. Maybe my brain is the bell. Maybe I'm becoming one with the pain.... Please, unless you're a 1950s radio drama, do not put sound effects in spoken audio, especially in this audio!
I got this app to help recover with chronic migraine. I've seen improvements and the app is super helpful. I'm just very disappointed that when you upgrade to be able to take the classes that you're actually very limited in how much you can do with the classes. If you work or are a parent and can't make a scheduled class then you can't catch a replay. I find this so unreasonable and a waste of money. I thought upgrading to the classes would elevate my recovery journey but it hasn't cause of this
