I recently purchased a Cync wireless camera and am trying to figure out why the app doesn't allow you to choose whether you want "Motion Detected" events to be recorded and saved to the cloud or SD card. I'm able to click on the motion detection notifications and watch whatever the camera picked up (although it's slow to record the event, I only get the last half of said events). But that's the only time I can view that event, since they are not recording to SD card or cloud for unknown reason.
Reviews for Cync (the new name of C by GE)
← Back to Cync (the new name of C by GE)Video clips never load for the camera in landscape mode and the app asks every time to access other devices. In addition to the above, my camera no longer even loads consistently. The app says the camera is offline or in Protected mode even those I re-added the device in the app and can visually see the shutter open.
Not connecting with my camera. Every time I exit the app, when I try to open the app again, it is unable to connect with my camera. I have restarted my phone, closed the app and reopened it, went all the way through deleting the device and resetting it and adding it again. Nothing works to reconnect except to delete and reinstall the app. The camera is still working as I am getting notifications about motion detection while the app won't connect to the camera. This is very tedious.
Camera is slow to conneect and is always having connection issues. When you want to view a recording horizontally it needs to reload and often fails, have to try multiple times to view clips. There is no means to just downlaod clips. Wish I got a different security camera, and may actually start looking at different brands. . . Contacting customer support is of no help.
The lights are nice. From changing colors to adding themes. But a dismal fault is with the schedule routines feature. The lights followed the routine for about 3 months. Then they stopped connecting. I have tried both firmware updates and connection issues. So, I factory reset them and assigned another routine only to experience the disconnect a month and a half later. Currently, the routine stays for about a month before the reset. Very frustrating since I use the lights to wake me up quietly.
Had this app for 3 months on a 1 year old bulb. App regularly does not recognize the bulb, especially when Routine is set. Meaning my light doesn't turn on at the time set nor turn off. Light Shows do not work. The one time it did, it locked the light show on my bulb then gave me an error that the app cannot recognize the bulb, until I did a full reset and had to reconnect the bulb. I would say it's only good to turn the light on and off.
Can't use the app without logging in so if you get logged out and their servers aren't working you're SOL. Also, say the power goes out and then you have to delete your light bulbs to get them to resync, all your routines are also deleted (even though rooms and groups are still there). The app needs to save local data on the phone for when things go wrong (because they eventually will), and so settings aren't deleted when you have to resync your lights.
After a frustrating set up, I finally got the bulb to connect to wifi. It works to turn the bulb on/off also was able to change the color to pink which I've been wanting for the longest. I'm disappointed that Google Home won't recognize the bulb as to have access to the on/off widget. It would be very helpful if the app had an on/off widget to toggle from home screen instead of having to go into the app.
I was excited to find a smart switch that didn't require a neutral but I soon found it was bunk. the light switch works for a day and flashes Alternatively on then off every 15 seconds. I have checked connections, un-installed and reinstalled so many times I've lost track. eventually tricked it into just being like a regular light switch. move on to something else because this ain't it.
Initial setup of schedules is intuitive. But for whatever reason, the system keeps needing to be re-booted or re-started. I noticed it because I have a schedule for outdoor lights that starts at sunset and turns off late. I often come home with the lights not on when they should. Too many times this has happened and it should be set & forget. Annoying and defeats the ease of use.
It's almost perfect.. if you could update the dim mode to make it where I just want the 1% and not close to 1%. Every time I try swiping to 1%, I end up turning off the light by accident. Beacuse, if you swipe all the way over, it turns off. It gets very frustrating after a while. 4 stars because of the dim issues. Other than that, it's almost perfect.
The app is fine, it's very basic. You have access to a full color wheel and a variety of "light shows," both pre-made and custom. There's a slider for determining how strongly lit the bulb will be as well. The biggest issue is that if you're trying to do a fun color and not a basic white (warm or cool), the bulb is not very bright at all. The brightest vivid colors will get is at most half of the brightness the whites get. Not great for mood lighting or parties.
It just works. I have no complaints on that front and I love being able to control my lights from my phone with color and brightness adjustments. BUT I would love either a widget on my home screen on my phone for quick access to my lights or a way to connect my lights to Samsung Smart things or a desktop app please. I know these things are likely never gonna happen but it would be so nice.
Unusable embarrassment for an app. DO NOT BUY CYNC PRODUCTS. Set a scene? Oh we'll show that room or lights as on... but (incorrectly) show brightness at 0 and prevent user from adjusting it... GREAT. Want to see your devices? Just click "..." under "All" - it's soo intuitive! The slightly superior LEDs are useless if the lights can't be controlled easily.
The app randomly disconnects from devices, and decides that the devices in your area do not exist. My lights keep on blinking and won't reconnect with the app, no matter what I do, even if I could get it to reconnect numerous times before when it would happen, annoyingly often, usually after some kind of power outage, but not anymore! They will not reconnect, even after resetting EVERYTHING in the house, and now I'm stuck with epilepsy inducing lightbulbs until I find something better than this.
every. single. night. the stupid lights all disconnected from the app. sometimes I can just spam the light in the app and it'll reconnect, most of the time I have to manually turn the light off and back on at least twice to get it reconnected. every. single. night. this has been the most frustrating experience, and I'll never buy these cheap lightbulbs ever again.
Had to reset a light bulb, now unable to add it back. The app can't find the network even though there are multiple devices using the same network it can't find. Tried manually entering Info, still can't connect. I'd delete this except I have other devices and don't want to replace them all. edit 9/2025 i should have learned my lesson. brand new bulb out of the box. cynch can't find it. lesson learned.
Bought a single bulb to see how I liked the app...set it up, no issues everything was great and easy to set up. Bought 4 more bulbs, try to set them up and the app crashes every time. Its really frustrating, I thought I found a bulb with a good app, but its no better than the others I have used in the past. Now I have 4 bulbs that function as over priced regular blubs.
I really hoped to find a contender to Phillips with Cync, but the software has been a nightmare. Firmware update decided to disconnect all my lights. tap to see blinking light decides to blink 3 at the same time. what a disaster. one doesn't even blink at all. this was after factory reset. if it ain't broke, don't fix it guys. you've ruined a good thing for what exactly?
Purchased indoor and outdoor cams, bulbs, and wireless switch. Price was great. Install and connection was easy. The app walks you through every step. The switch and bulbs connected automatically once installed in the app together. The outdoor cam connected and has worked flawlessly with the app. Problems with the indoor cam persist. Any of our devices running android 15 are unable to view live feed from the indoor cam. Just shows it offline. Notifications come through, but theres no video.
