Use to be the absolute best tuner. Now the free version frequently dosen't show the bar to tell where you at for tuning. Useless without that. Changing the instrument sometimes gets it going but still has much slower response than it used to be. If it worked like it use to, I'd be happy to purchase it. Now that it is subscription for premium and broken in the ad subsidized version, I'm looking for other options.
Reviews for DaTuner: Tuner & Metronome
← Back to DaTuner: Tuner & MetronomeThis was a great app until they made it a subscription based app. I used to use it for multiple instruments every day. Invested in some high quality tuners, so I hadn't used it in a few years. I came back because I needed a quick portable solution and it's "free" to use, but it's almost completely useless. I wish they had never changed. Looks like I'll just have to take my Korg TM-60 everywhere to get reliable results.
I've used this app to tune all my instruments for YEARS. It was simple and effective and that's why I used it... now it's been completely redesigned to basically not work unless you go for a very expensive ($30 ANNUALLY) premium. It literally doesn't even tell you how close to pitch your instrument is anymore. I got so frustrated trying to figure out the new interface that I just uninstalled it. It didn't change for years and now the creators have gotten greedy. I'm incredibly disappointed.
I'm done with this app. I've uses it for years, it was free and worked great and I told everybody to download it. Now, nothing but notifications, pop-ups, ads and more ads, and they want a subscription? I would have considered buying it outright if it was $10 or less, but a subscription, no thanks. I'll gladly pay for another one that lets me know I need to right up front.
The app was perfect until they started to include ads that make it very difficult to use. I was in a rehearsal last night and I had to see an ad before I tuned. Only problem is that I had very poor internet connection so the ad wouldn't load, making it so I couldn't tune. I am fine with paying for an app, but this type of thing should not be a subscription. $2.99 a month makes no sense since there are so many other tuning apps out there. Make it a one time fee and maybe I'll re-download this.
This app in the "lite" version was great until they recently added advertising. Now they want a MONTHLY payment to get rid of advertising and add features which are not necessary. If they want to charge for the app, fine. But I want to own it out right. I do not want to rent the app and continue to pay per month. Absurd. Recommend Bandmate Chromatic Tuner. Free, unencumbered, and fully functional.
this app was the best until the latest upgrade. You opened it, tuned instruments, start playing and it was perfect. Now it has blockers ads, pop-ups with no work arounds, have to close and reopen, and now they appear both on opening and closing. I'll be moving on to something that doesn't get in the way when time is absolutely critical... There are more tuners than you can count out there. try another!
App has become bloated and intrusive. Just what you want when you want to tune before a rehearsal: a long boot time followed by a loud video ad, and THEN the tuner. I understand the pressure to monetize, but it's sad to see a wonderfully simple app get so far from its roots. The pro price is an expensive ask ($30/yr!), making my choice to find another app instead obvious. I just wanted a tuner.
This used to be a great app, but after the latest update it took way too long to load - it always seemed like it was freezing up, but it seems to have just been taking a long time to load the ads. After that, it works struggle to register and respond to the sound of the strings, and would freeze up frequently. I had to delete it - way too many bugs now
Paid for a premium version years ago, like back in 2012. Came back to find that version removed and only this subscription based version available. Luckily through my purchase history I can still access the old version which is in my opinion a far better experience than this, and at the end of the day that's what it all boils down to; customer experience. If you fail at that then you just fail.
This app used to be great, but now it's filled with obstructive pop-up ads. Some of the ads don't even have a way to close them, forcing you to restart the app until you get a new ad that you can close. This wastes a huge amount of time. Some of the ads are also malicious, telling you your phone has a virus or whatever and that you can click to remove it. Nice try. Five stars before, one now.
Good tuner, for sure, fast, really good noise filtering, shows the complete name of note (A4 vs just A on others) but... really? full screen ads *with sound* (yes, ads with videos that include sound, imagine that just before or *during* a presentation!), followed by smaller ads, which are "ok". I do not normally mind ads all that much, if at all (sometimes I even click them), but this is a musician's tool, sound being played out of the blue is a no-no! *Sound* in the ads was the reason why I stopped using the first time (it actually started to sound just before a presentation when I was going to check tuning! and, of course, the rest of musicians noticed and gave me "the look" because I was, apparently, checking my social media or something on-stage!), I gave it a try again a few weeks ago and I thought: oh, it is fine now! but... wrong! ads with sound came back! So... uninstalling, again. Remove the sound from the ADs and.. promise not to add them again! otherwise I cannot use this app and give you ADs revenue (I cannot pay your subscription, I mean, I would've bought a tuner if I could just pay $30). I am back to a more basic tuner app, but that at least have reasonable ADs (ie: without sound!).
Used to be a useful and faulty accurate tuner. It's always had ads and I don't mind that in a free app until they interfere with the functionality of the app. It used to open directly to the tuner. Now, it opens to a home menu with the tuner as one option. Click any of the options and you're treated to an ad or two so, if you're in a hurry, too bad. What's worse if that the band adds are also still there. Wrist of all, it's no longer very accurate. Time to go back to my old school tuner.
As a music educator, I recommended this app to hundredS of students every year. Between the introduction of ads and lack of one time purchase price, I will now actively *discourage* hundredS of families every year from utilizing this app. I am extremely disappointed an ad-free version for a one time fee is unavailable. It was a wonderful program and would have been worth it.
I was not aware of the subscription when it came out of my account. I am pretty tech savvy and I searched throughout the app and could not find out how to unsubscribe, nor anyone I can contact. Not that the subscription hurt me financially, I just do not want anyone else to make the same mistake. The app itself works, but is not too efficient. Thanks.
the ads make this app not with the time. I spend longer waiting for a an ad to pay than I do turning. Update: So for about three months, the ad placement didn't suck, and you could use the app and live with the ads. Then it tanked again. Now there's ads that start playing videos before you can use the tuner. I get advertising, but I don't want to wait 15 seconds for an add to play, for a service im not interested, to use a hobbled version of an app. It's not worth the headache. Get a pitchpipe.
This was a phenomenal app. I gladly bought the pro version years ago, and would have gladly donated or something if asked. Instead after being the only tuner I ever needed for years, I update my phone and the pro version is gone; I'm not going to pay for it again, not because it's not worth it: it's because it was taken away. There's no option to restore the purchase. Otherwise, 10/5 wonderful app; it was, at least.
Functionality-wise, this is easily the best tuner app, and I have yet to find another one that compares. I like how this tells you what each string is at instead of other apps that make you pick a specific tuning to start with. However, the free version is almost unusuable and the premium price makes zero sense IMO. I would gladly pay a fairly substantial lifetime access price for premium, but not what is currently offered. Hopefully this helps all involved as the app is truly great.
Easy to use, acurate, great tuning app! Lost a star when they added all the ads, though. I used to open the app, tune, and get to playing. Now I open the app, get through an ad (sometimes two), and if I have to switch instruments, I might have another ad before I can actually tune my instrument. Still tunes all my instruments accurately, at least, I do love being able to tune everything with one app.
Start up is pretty slow, really I don't wish to see a guitar drawn three times. Hopefully the layer of ads before getting to the tuner goes away with a paid version. However, I don't want to pay a recurring subscription...but I cannot tell from the description if it's once or recurring. Also I tuned my instrument and a few minutes later during rehearsal a loud ad started. Developers deserve to get paid and I sure don't mind supporting them directly. Will update rating.
