Definitely practicing using before you get on the road. The beacon functionality is awesome for sharing your live location with loved ones. I am yet to find another app with the beacon and other worth while functionality. I do wish you could control music more easily from the riding screen.
Reviews for Detecht - Motorcycle App & GPS
← Back to Detecht - Motorcycle App & GPSI read one post where Detecht replied back to the review stating that the app have a free version and a paid version... Well, moments later and I'm still looking for the free version. Seems like the only thing free was the 'registering' part.
Needs a subscription to generate curvy roads.. So it's just Waze with less features. You're literally better off using Waze if you plan to use a free subscription, as it awares you of police.
I got this app purely for crash detection and safety/location tracking. The location tracking is paywalled, but it worked well with very little input on my part and was much appreciated by my loved ones. The crash detection does NOT require a subscription at this time, and thankfully I haven't needed it so far. I don't plan on touching the rest of the app, except for using the weather radar overlay on the map.
this app SUCKS BIG TIME!! i watch my son as he drives and it lags and app doesn't open have to literally repeatedly hit the screen to view his driving can't comment or heart his rides. i sure hope the crash detection is live ..I'd give 0 stars if i could.
if you already have a route saved and then you start another one and you cross the one already saved the mileage is added on. you'd think starting a new one, it wouldn't do that.
Has cool features, and I like the autogeneration of routes with specific distances. Unfortunately, even though I selected no dirt roads, without fail, every route it took me on had at least one dirt road, maybe more. I do live in a more rural area, but if your app advertises it'll avoid dirt roads then I feel like it should follow through.
dangerous in the uk. bendy roads are not byways. no option to select bike type. voice guidance is terrible bear right then turn sharp left. on a two way junction. why not bear left then take left turn. but to try and take you down a byway on a 1000cc road race bike and not a enduro/trial/dirt bike. is very dangerous. not happy at all could have destroyed my bike with this app.
This is basically Google maps combined with Life 360. The ad I decided to check this app out from stated that I could choose the curvy road option but failed to mention it was behind a paywall. if I wanted all the protection options and a curvy road, I'd just choose to use life 360 for safety and plan my route on Google maps.
Unusable for Navigation and Planning. You can't effectively plan routes as there is no option to change road types between nav points. You either have to have the entire route as a single road type, or plan separate legs of a journey as different routes. The navigation is absolutely dreadful. The system consistently fails to reroute navigations or will choose the most ridiculous reroute The app looks really good and seems polished, until you actually try and use it. Which is a shame.
Im currently on the 7-day trial mainly for crash detection and safety tracking. The route planning impressed me—my 250 km ride had great curves and scenic roads. But navigation needs work: it didn’t recalc when I missed a turn, froze in a roundabout, and voice prompts lagged after stops, causing missed directions. The robotic voice also feels outdated, I'm sure you guys can get better voices:). Great potential, but fixing these issues would make it a must-have for riders. using a s23 ultra
it would be great if when you were building a route you could just drag the noodle along roads/tracks you want to go down, you have to put a start and finish and add stops along the way and just hope the app takes you along roads you want to go down. very hard to do when building routes in the mountain tracks. you end up just confusing the app
Great app for motorcycle enthusiasts. The community feed is a nice touch. GPS needs some work when it comes to plotting on your phone. You have to zoom in really tight to ensure you haven't put your way point wrong, or it will have you constantly correcting unless you skip it. A good fix is to log in on a PC as using the mouse allows for better accuracy when plotting your way points.
For some reason this loses track of where I am and then stops updating my route. Google maps will automatically update if you go off course and recalculate a route to your destination, this does not do that for me. If I go off course even in the slightest it seems to have no idea how to put me back on course and will just stop updating. I had a ride where it told me I had a turn in 450ft for an hour because it still thought I was 50 miles back where that turn was. Too expensive to just not work.
Installed and works ok so far, however my biggest issue is I can't zoom in on my statistics. I can send a trip to a friend with an iPhone and he can see my trips and also zoom in on my statistics. This is very important to me. I've tried it on my Samsung S21 and S23 Ultra. Same on both, no zoom available on statistics.
So far so good. One problem I've been having, is when we stop for food and the ride is paused sometimes it looses the progress and just acts like you are just starting at that location instead of your actual start location. It is a bit frustrating because it has happened about 4 or 5 times while using it. Other than that the app works great.
The map is responsive and UI is modern, but there's no AndroidAuto/Carplay support, and I can only import 3 .GPX files for free, plus I have to leave the app to do that. Additionally, when viewing someone's posted ride, swiping "back" on my phone does nothing, I have to scroll up and then go back using the app's "back" button which feels cumbersome. I think there's potential but more work needs to be done.
Great for plotting your ride, rerouting needs a little work. I just used it for the first time and it generated a great route for me. However when I missed a turn it would be dead set on making me go back to the spot I missed as opposed to just giving me a way to get back on route. Other than that, awesome app. Edit: I've come to find the only time the issue I've mentioned arises is when you miss one of the preset nav points on your route. It's generally good at recalculating on its own.
this app would be so awesome if it worked. I pay for pro and man, this app is a buggy mess. Today I find that I can't change the route options (highway, toll road, etc) because the app crashes when I press the button. It has always had issues with recalculating a route of you take a wrong turn. I just want this app to work because I use it in case of an emergency. edit july7,2025: My issue has since been fixed. The rerouting seems to be better now also.
I made the mistake of purchasing the premium subscription without trying the app first. When I finally did, I couldn’t hear the turn-by-turn instructions through my Bluetooth helmet. Just to be sure it wasn’t an issue with my phone or Bluetooth device, I switched to a different app — and it worked just fine. Also, this app doesn’t reroute you if you miss a turn. Honestly, even the free version isn’t worth it, let alone paying for the premium one.
