Absolute Ripoff Now! It's $1 every two minutes (after taxes). My 39 minute ride was $9.34. The distance I went was a loop, would have been a $6 Uber. They want you to buy the $12 day rate or the membership. They used to have $1.50 for 30 before the more expensive per hour kicked in.
Reviews for Divvy
← Back to DivvyA week of Divvy costs $126+tax. A weekly rail pass is $20. It's basically cheaper to buy a bike and throw it away after a week.
Not for tourists. Only works with US phone number AND US bank account...
Simply doesn't work if you try imputing any phone number beside US
Very very bad experience. App not user friendly at all. Very bad support. Unusable when you come from a foreign country. Won't send you a code to your phone number. While the phone number is anyway not used by the app. Couldn't pay for the day pass. Only was able to pay for the day pass after my first ride. The support refused to refund my first ride. So at the end I paid twice. Extremely unhappy.
so I came to edit my review of this but I guess it can't get any lower. divvy seems to think it's easier to charge people $25 for parking their bike outside of the docks (27.75 actually) if they think you've locked the bike to nothing. it costs less for them to charge for every bike and hope no one cares enough to complain about the process, than for them to pay someone enough to actually do their jobs. I have never locked my bike to itself yet every month I have to ask for my money back.
These scooters and bikes are easy access and save so much time. If you want to see the most of Chicago dont walk or taxi, have fun see more than you can by walking. Also the experience is great if alone, with friends, on a date or family. Don't say I should have going home, we could have seen so much more.
Went through the garbage of setting up an account (why cant i just pay for a ride by tapping a card or phone on the device??? I guess they can't have access to my personal info that way.) After all that, the scooter doesn't work. Even though I got a notification that the scooter wasn't working, I still got billed for the ride. Can't find any way to contact them through the app, or request a refund. BTW how is this app rated 4.7 stars?? 11 of the last 20 reviews give it 1 star haha!
I wish I could give this app zero stars! I was overcharged for an 8 minute ride and the ai bot that they have you chat with (customer service) didnt even provide assistance. I had proof and timestamps but was charged almost $20 for a $8 ride. Absolutely ridiculous. Don't recommend using this way of traveling at all unless you want to be robbed of your money.
The renting part is okay. However, the navigation needs work. First, it should allow us to see where the restricted zones are before renting. I rented a scooter, and it stopped working because I did not know I was in a restricted zone. I had to lug the scooter to the closest parking spot. Also, the navigation between two stations is not great. It led us to a multi-story path and told us to walk up the stairs. I also think they should make it easier to choose between two stations when planning.
Would have appreciated more clear verbiage that the day pass DOES NOT cover ebikes BEFORE I purchase it, not after. It would have been fine if the classic bikes were okay but they were beyond bad to ride.
App did not work, ended up using the kiosk instead. Can't get a day pass through the app. Saw several groups of people at the same dock struggling to get the app to work. Really hard to check dock availability because it always wants to show you docks near yourself rather than where you're going, map constantly zooms in and out, so annoying.
Terrible ebike rates. The day pass says ebikes included but at a higher rate, which you have to open a separate page to see the rates. Not something you look at when you're trying to just grab a bike and go. I was charged an additional $50+ on top of the day pass for less than 2 hours. Completely rip off
My experience was bad. Real bad. I rode the bike for 15 minutes and was trying to lock the bike but there was no dock or chain to lock it. I went to 3 stations and it was the same. Don't use this bikes. It's 40 degrees outside and i was looking for stations. I called customer service and they said drive another 30 minutes to find a good station. Really???? Never using this again.
This app sucks. It won't allow me to use my debit card. I called customer service and they asked me if it was a gift card (It's not) because the app recognized it as a gift card. The frustrating part is that it worked beautifully until a few months ago. On top of that the kiosks are pretty terrible with unresponsive touch screens. The convenience factor was a big selling point for me but after dealing with this issue I'm just going to buy my own bike.
This is the worst damn app I have ever used. Even after doing everything, making an account, signing in, etc, it only shows my profile. The entire thing constantly says "Get the app" when I AM IN THE APP!!! I'm using the damn app. I have the damn app opened but it's not doing anything useful. When you sign up you have to go through two sections just to get where I am now in the app. There's not enough room to tell you about how dragged out the sign up is.
I was able to buy a pass to ride ONCE. Every other time, as countless other reviews have said, the "Complete Purchase" button won't become available to click. Customer service was completely unhelpful, telling me to email over a screenshot and the developers would look into it, as if they aren't already aware. To top it all off, I still haven't found a single card reader on one of the docks that works, so you literally have no way to get a bike out. A great idea with terrible execution.
After one year of using, this app finally does everything it's supposed to. I have no problems finding stations, the timer helps me stay in my time, unlock codes work every time I need them (though I usually use my key dongle), and finally the ride history stats actually work. For a year, I gave this app 2 stars and was very frustrated. I'm happy that I can now write a better review! Based on recent poor reviews, it seems to work better if you have an annual pass like I do.
Divvy bikes are the biggest ripoff. They make massive bank on hidden fees and misleading pricing. For example, $0.42/minute sounds cheap, right? Well if you go for an hour bc you can't find an approved place to park it, it'll cost you $30 (plus fees) to go a few miles in the city. An Uber is like half that for the same distance in way less time. If you reserve a bike for 10 minutes, they'll charge you for that as well, with no upfront disclosure. First and last time we'll use Divvy bikes.
Between the train, bus, and divvy you can get anywhere in Chicago. It's very convenient. However, I think the rate is pricey and it's not conducive for longer rides. The bikes are durable but uncomfortable and very slow if you are used to road bikes. I wish they charged for every 15 minutes instead of 30, because a ride that took me 33 minutes cost the same as a 60 minute ride. I think of it wasn't as expensive I would give it a higher review.
