This app worked great when it was Simpler Budget. Now it is putting charges in the wrong month and doubles up on charges making look like I am overspending. By this I mean it doubles up pending charges with the completed transaction. It also counts internal money transfers as income. Another issue is that the rules I have set up don't consistently work. it would be nice to also have a pie chart to see where money is spent the most. I also have not received the cookbook with my premium subscript.
Reviews for DollarWise: Budget & Tracking
If you want a very basic and slightly skewed review of your spending this is your app. Anything else, I would recommend another option. The app does not allow for tracking of non budgeted items, does not link with all bank accounts, and allows no insights into your spending other than what category it may have been. I also sent questions and refund requests to hammer media within a week of downloading the app and canceling my subscription because of the shortfall and still have not heard back.
BUGGED!!! I had issues getting my accounts connected. I'm still unable to connect a few. Transactions took some time to sync, but some finally got there. Not sure about the rest. I would have to say the biggest issues is I cannot create a budget. Every time I try to start a budget on any of the categories, nothing happens. I was so ready to use this tool to start building my wealth but it just doesn't work. Hopefully they get it all fixed, but I'll have to use something else now. Dont recommend.
The only problem I have is the biggest reason why I paid for membership - automatically tracking purchases and budgeting. I can link my accounts, but when a charge comes in, it doesn't show it in the budget. I have to go in and manually enter every charge into the budget. I for that reason I'd rather have just stuck with the free plan.
I liked it as a simple free alternative to mint when it finally died. I am trying the paid subscription, I'll be real. it's annoying that there's as many drawbacks as there is. Ally Card won't connect to the app and the Betterment account balances read zero. I've been on an annual subscription for less than thirty minutes and am not jazzed. I'll keep tinkering in the free version but if I can't connect my primary credit card or my IRA, the subscription serves me no good.
Double counts transactions with no way to remove. says I spent double what I actually spent in a month. has also counted money flowing in as flowing out. got the app because I really like Caleb and want to get a handle on my finances, but I unfortunately can't use the app for my financial goals. I've tried deleting line items but they don't go anywhere. Hopefully y'all can fix it. I have the annual membership, so we'll see.
No support or cookbook as advertised. I cannot delete certain accounts off the app, the rules don't work most of the time, and there is a limited number of accounts you can add so we can't get the full picture between my husband and I. I paid for the annual thinking that the free trial was limiting some features but that didn't fix anything. I have emailed asking for help weeks ago and still haven't had a reply. I also never received the email to request a cookbook which is irritating.
Needs a refresh ASAP. Ive used it since its release as Simpler Budget. Ive never really been able to use all the bells and whistles that come with the app. The budgeting seems to refresh every month, so its easier to just use the app as a way to see all expenses in one place. Lately thats been a challenge because every transaction gets duped with one stuck in a "pending" state. I like that they've added rules for identifying transactions, but I have yet to use it to its full potential.
I have the premium version of the app and set up a bunch of custom categories and rules for charges to go in said categories (I pay rent to someone as a bank transfer) along with sending money to Robinhood for investments. This app is VERY buggy in the sense of you CONSTANTLY need to close and restart the app when you make ANY significant change, it is never up to date with your bank or expenses (which shouldn't necessarily be the apps fault, could be the banks fault)
Lacking in features and functionality (app automatically rounds up/down cents and you can't turn that off, no ability to copy one months budget to the next, and practically no data visualization) and what's there is buggy and inconsistent. It usually takes at least 2-3 attempts of adding any activity for it save, custom categories disappear and have to be readded, category icons disappear, etc. You shouldn't have to fight your budgeting app every time you want to use it.
