Reviews for DuoCards - Vocabulary Builder

Honestly, this is the best flashcard app I've found for Bengali. It has been hard to learn Bengali because there is not a lot of resources available but this app has a simple interface, some readily available material, and it's easy for me to create my own study material from online articles and videos. I also think the algorithm works well for me. It keeps me motivated to see my list of "known" words growing steadily while still reminding me about some of the older words so I don't forget them.

I wanted to review my "learned" cards. I'm not sure how the app decided I'd learned them but I had forgotten many of them and would have liked to have been able to review them. Unfortunately this required a subscription (to use the Filters feature). Paywalling this sort of basic feature felt too user-hostile, so I decided to find another flash card app.

Really well-designed app. It's exactly what I was looking for to help broaden my Spanish vocabulary. However, the free mode is a little too restrictive. You cannot add ANY more words if you have 20 or more that you are "learning", and the app takes weeks to decide you have learned them, so you get stuck in a bottleneck of practicing words you already know. I get having to make money - but it's also important to have a usable app. I would reccomend changing this setup or at least the word limit.

I've found this app to be tremendously useful for language learning. As a longtime fan of paper flashcards, streamlining and automating that process into an app let me take it to the next level. I started with the free version, but was quickly motivated to go beyond 20 words per day, so I upgraded to the paid version. Some of the best money I've spent this year. I've since added over 2000 words to my vocabulary in German. My biggest complaint is the lack of even limited offline functionality.

Overall, I like how easy this app is to use, but I think I was too quick to spend money on it. Actually studying with it isn't very nice. I'm constantly having to turn the sound and romanisation on and off so I don't cheat myself and it's really frustrating. Also, you can mass important cards, but then it's gives them to you all at once instead of spreading them out. If a way to toggle the sound and romanization for the back and front of cards is added then I would give it a higher rating.

A solid vocabulary builder for foreign languages. The app is really in your face about buying a subscription. Without said subscription, there are lots of useful features, like the "undo" button and the ability to learn more than 2 languages at once, that are locked behind an in-your-face paywall. I would love there to be more functions for free users in this app. And, if there can be an ability to buy a lifetime subscription, I'd consider the investment if the price is good enough.

After glancing at other reviews I should say I have the paid version. It is very cheap and good value. It sounds like popups make the free version unusable. Easy to use and great for adding vocabulary. I love both the suggested card packs and the ability to add my own words, in either my target or original language. I like that it's not just swiping back and forth, but gives the option to type your guess for the card in, which helps me remember better than just thinking or saying the words.

Great flash card app I really like how they work and how easy it is to add cards. However, the free card limit made me immediately Uninstaller and look into a different app. I just want to have my flash cards on the go, and I dont have enough money for chicken nuggets so I absolutely will not be paying for this. It would be one thing if it was a one time flat rate but im not doing a subscription service.

DuoCards is a fantastic tool for vocabulary building. It's super easy to add words you want to learn. (Type them in, share them from a web page, find existing lists, etc.) You get instant translations, so no need to look the words up. The algorithm for learning the words is extremely effective. There are options to study smaller lists separately, and other useful tools. I had a few questions about features that weren't clear to me, and I found that user support is fast and super helpful.

App experience was really poor so deleted after 5 minutes. I just wanted to watch a video with translations, but never even got that far because I had to go through tutorials, say no to upgrading a few times, make some flash card deck, review all the words, then the elephant started complaining about finding some flames or cave or something for some quest I had to do, and at that point I just gave up. Just give me the learning content you advertised and don't block me from watching a video.

(Edit from previous 3-star review) Initially the app does not give you an option to not make an account, but after backing out over and over I was finally able to proceed without one. There is also a free version, but the option is small, remote, and difficult to find at first glance. The flashcards seem good (I say this as a former professional linguist), but the app's gentle coercion into starting a pro trial and minimizing of free options prevents a five star rating.

It's not great, but it has a really good concept. It really shoves the plus version down your throat. The japanese was weird, you could pick one character rather than the whole word too easily, but that's probably because of how japanese is written. The video I watched played well, the translation wasn't great. Didn't have a list of words for what it could translate to, it just had one. では was "Then" in the video but something else in translation, which can get confusing for some people.

I know the basics of spanish but I really wanted to expand my vocabulary, especially since I work with someone from Venezuela who speaks very little English. This app has been working really well for me so far. You can pick what words you want to study from diffrent pre made sets. The only down side is that you can't make your own set to learn from without paying. Well, you can, but theres a low limit to how many cards you can "learn" at a time and you can't add more or make a set to use later.

one of the better language vocabulary apps in my opinion. it's helping a lot as a supplement to my minimal schooling. I like that it's simple, no frills, has a clear voice for the language I'm learning which isn't always available, and uses the technique of bringing back words from a while ago (I forget what it's called...). the transliteration is written in like latin pronunciation which throws me off a bit but it's better not to use It anyway. actually considering paying for the premium soon..

Love the app. They have a large library of different articles you can read in the desired language, and you can translate every individual word and add it to a collection of flash cards to learn from. You learn so much faster it's incredible. I highly highly recommend trying it. And don't use it for a minute and quit, but really try going through the newspapers and teach yourself each word and dig into it. This is the only app that has this feature. We must support this gem.

This is a great app but a bit difficult to navigate and missing a few features. I wish the app would show an example sentence by default instead of having to modify the card to add it, and also read the sentence when doing audible training. I also wish there was an easier way to retest learned words more often. And, as others have said, accuracy is a bit lacking. Last, I wish I could study offline. I fly a lot and would like to study on the plane. It seems silly to need an Internet connection.

I like it! The ability to share words to the app to add them to the deck is very convenient and the time between words feels a little better for me than other flash card apps. The use of AI means you sometimes need to make corrections, even in the pre-made decks. Minor issues: 1. Touch sensitivity seems off during matching quizzes, and you have to double-check if it registered. 2. Sometimes a card comes up and is replaced by another card, and it's confusing to know which word I'm answering.

It seems promising but as I was answering questions to set up my account, I noticed it didn't specify which form of Português to choose, European or Brazilian. It was only after I finished, rejected the option to subscribe, and was about to start my first beginner lesson that it specified it was Brazilian Português. I need European, so I will move on. I'm glad I didn't subscribe before finding out.

Huge number of cards from and it paces you to move on to new sections once you're comfortable with what you've covered. (Edit): This was previously 5 stars, but some cards have the first sound of a word's audio cutout. I contacted customer service with a video and they gaslit me by saying the video doesn't show what it clearly shows) it's not constant or on all cards so it's manageable but I will keep this at 3 stars until it's fixed.

The app has grown on me and has a few improvements. I hope the app can remain less focused on social than Duolingo. My main complaint now is that I cannot include the gender alongside the noun without losing the extra context the app provides. Also, some words are translated by the app correctly, but doesn't include the context to help you better understand the word.
