Horrible horrible horrible app. You would think that after 6 years it would finally be working it's still not. Every feature that they integrate completely doesn't work. The "schedule feature"...don't even bother with it, itwon't enable your schedule. It'll get locked into whatever mode It was last on and stay there. Consistently never works with the water heater, always loses connection. It is the biggest piece of trash you've ever experienced, and if you're buying it to have app access, don't.
Reviews for EcoNet
← Back to EcoNet5/2025: app update killed my thermostats WiFi settings again. reconfiguring is not working this time. the bugs are rampant. dropping from 3 down to 2 stars. bummer. 1/2025: app is better than it used to be. Was pretty great for a while, but recently an update killed my WiFi settings. 9/2022: still a lousy app. works less than half of the time. update 10/2021 getting worse. there is a bug that prevents the system from working if you want to connect to a new wifi network.
I have tried over and over to connect a device with zero luck. It won't find any wifi networks. I've tried to connect to the main 2.4 GHz network, I've made special ones, and I've even tried an open one; nothing seems to work and the help documentation doesn't solve anything. Based on my experience and the reviews of others, it looks like this app doesn't get much attention from the manufacturer. It's a cool idea but a flawed execution. I'll keep checking every few months and see if it changes.
I've been using this app for about 6 years now. It's always been buggy trying to connect the app to the thermostat, and the latest update made it even worse. I'm being generous giving this a second star since the app makes it easier to change the fan speed of my heat pump. When will Reem figure this out? The entire team responsible for the app should be fired, and somebody with a proven track record, from a real tech company, should be put in charge.
I wish I read these ratings and comments before purchasing this piece of junk. I thought the issues were mostly with water heaters. Nope, does not work with my new heat pump system. Only worked for a couple of weeks and then stopped. Avoid it! The "update" is even worse! If only there was some form of customer support. Can't think how it could be worse. Update: I have now had it for years and it continues to be a massive problem. Constantly disconnects itself from the equipment. It is terrible!!
This app is extraordinarily limited. It basically just lets you adjust the hot water temp, and won't let you set it below 110 degrees. The scheduling function just lets you change the temperature between 110-150. It doesn't let you turn off the water heating function when it's not needed. And it doesn't look like you can engage the vacation function from the app either. This app is a huge disappointment.
Garbage wifi setup process when adding new devices. It basically just won't connect. Update: was able to connect via my iPad and the iOS version of the app. On the iOS version, it asked for a few more permissions, like location access while in the app, and it didn't have as much trouble switching between my 2.4 GHz SSID and the unit's hotspot SSID. On Android, it would see the unit via the 2.4 GHz SSID, connect to the unit, try the 2.4, and just time out. Over and over.
Wow, what a lump of garbage. Needs to be re-setup every few months and routinely can't reconnect to the very app that controls it. At every power blip it goes to factory reset and can't communicate with anything. I really hate that this is the best way to control the $12k air conditioner I just installed. Would not recommend to an enemy. Buy a Nest and save the headache.
I had to try 4-5 times on my Android device to connect my new ikonic unit with no success and ended up borrowing a friend's iPhone just to get it set up. Once connected, I was disappointed to find there's no way to control the recirculation pump schedule anymore. I don't want my pump running constantly, and scheduling is the only way to manage it properly. To make things worse, the app logs me out every time I open it. Really poor user experience.
After getting a new phone, I was able to connect the app to the water heater. The app has worked pretty well so far. I changed internet providers and had trouble connecting the water heater to the new network. Fixed it by resetting the wifi module on the water heater. The app has some quirks. Language is inconsistent and confusing between the home page and the individual appliance page. Energy use graph is not clear. Schedules don't stick; I've caught the water heater ignoring the set schedule
The schedule feature stopped working unless I open the app then go to the heat pump water heater, then open the schedule tab. It will then update to the current setting that it's stopped to be on, however it will not update at the next set time unless I go into the app again. I've tried clearing cache, deleting app data, uninstalling & reinstalling the app all to no avail. Shouldn't this be a server feature that wouldn't be affected by the app? Please fix this. Thanks!
Doesn't follow the schedule unless I open the app and navigate to the schedule tab. Then the hot water heater immediately changes to what the schedule is set for. Used to work. App works well for my Rheem heat pump hot water heater. I do have a minor annoyance though. It loves to tell me my energy usage and saving but nowhere does it allow me to program in how much my energy usage costs so it can calculate that automatically. It's so obvious that people would want to see that.
Several individuals, myself included, encountered difficulties during the initial Wi-Fi setup process. After collaborating with Econet's customer support, we discovered that, currently, the procedure necessitates using an iOS device initially, and then Android will work. I'm not aware of any updates addressing this issue. Fortunately, since t setup completion, I haven't experienced any connectivity problems. Furthermore, the scheduling function operates seamlessly, even when the app is closed.
Incredibly, I was able to complete the initial setup via an Android device about 4 months ago. I found the app useful to see the amount of hot water remaining in the tank or remotely change the mode. Unfortunately, I recently upgraded my home wifi network. I used a new network login. That is ONLY a problem for this hot water heater app. This app fails in multiple ways with basic network setup via Android. I don't own any iOS devices. App engineers seem to have forgotten to test their software.
For the past two months I have had to manually tell the server to follow the schedule by either going into Schedule and backing out or changing the temperature and telling it to Resume Schedule. I don't get why these water heaters don't have a small amount of onboard storage for the schedule. Update: 9/14/2025 Seems the server is back up and running correctly and properly changing my temperature according to schedule automatically. Whatever the technician did, good job.
doesn't work properly, you can only put it in vacation mode when at the front panel, then only stays that way for about a week and the turns itself back to regular mode, mind you only at 110 degrees, but stilo not in the mode you set, and the vacation schedule you put in the app doesn't work either. so much for a smart device.
The app works, but the scheduling function doesn't always take effect correctly. Example: You'd set it to change to 110 degrees and heat pump only at 4pm. Yet, the unit will show 130 degrees and energy saver at 4.05pm. But as soon as you open the app on your phone and go to schedule it magically pushes a trigger to the unit and it goes to 110 degrees and heat pump only.
Alerts & Notifications do not work unless you are IN the app! What a joke! I have no way of knowing there is a problem, nor does it keep a running log of dates/times for said alerts/issues. Horrible app for an Energy Saver product! I have apps from cheap smart switches that are more useful! Sharing the account? Hahaha. No, they have to ALREADY be a registered user...how does that make sense? They should be emailed/texted registration invite if you are choosing to "share" your account.
3/19/25 update: 1 year later. An embarrassing product. I would say I'm actually able to change the temperature 1% of the time. Garbage. 3/13/24 update: The app worked well for about 1 month and has become unresponsive again. Worthless. February: The idea is great but it doesn't even work half the time. It'll either continuously load or if I can actually get it to load, and I try to change the temperature, the temp icon will gray out and go back to what it was before.
8/11/25 App crashing, won't open, lost connection. This is getting ridiculous. Old review: Update broke my connection. I can NOT get it to reconnect even after trying for over 35 minutes straight. It was connected just fine UNTIL I UPDATED. Update: finally got it connected after trying for over 45 minutes!! ALL HISTORICAL DATA is GONE. I had data all the way back to February 2023 for energy usage and it is all G-O-N-E.
