It's pretty good. Ads are blocked well, the searches are more accurate than Chrome, and the UI/UX is better than Chrome too. My only problem with Ecosia is that it asks for cookies anytime you start a new incognito tab (if you haven't already made one). I would give Ecosia a 5 star rating if it didn't ask for cookies in incognito mode. Over all, it's brilliant.
Reviews for Ecosia: Search to plant trees
← Back to Ecosia: Search to plant treesI appreciate that something as simple as using this browser helps plant trees, which is why I have been using the app for at least two or three years now. It functions well, I don't have trouble finding the web pages I want. It doesn't have the fancier features that Chrome does and the image search results needs work (some images get cut off when using it on mobile). But I honestly can't complain as it suits my needs. I hope this app continues to grow, improve, and plant lots more trees!
I just started using ecosia on my pc to avoid ai results, and I love it. It is pretty too! I really want to make it work on my phone as well, but the widget is so unsightly. I wish I could make it transparent. (It might be a conflict with my launcher, not sure) I would also love to see a mic button on the widget so I could use it like I do my google widget, and easily search things by voice.
very nice search engine, i would say it's almost on par with chrome. there's just a couple of things missing: such as when i look up the definition of something it won't pop up with the definition, i have click on tje link to the dictionary. it's missing little google shortcuts like that. but, if you're cool with that you should definitely switch.
It was okay in the beginning, but now after using it for a few weeks, it has gotten so slow! I thought it was just my phone so I searched through Google instead, and Google immediately brought up the common website I was trying to open. So I have now uninstalled this app. I'm sorry I can no longer help your company, but when I'm looking up stuff, I'm usually in a hurry trying to get somewhere or grab rewards while I'm in a store. (We've gotten spoiled from other search apps.)
The browser is not only amazing, but I can input any search via the drop down bar, but there's an issue with that, the drop down search bar (when you swipe down on your phone to show you the quick settings and notifications menu at the top of your phone) for some reason doesn't auto register space characters in between words when swiping your words like I'm doing now. Using that search bar forces me to push the space bar which is a minor inconvenience, otherwise an amazing app.
I've used this app for a long time and this browser used to be my favorite. However the grouped tab update has made it unusable. I constantly lose track of the tabs I have open, and some webpage interface elements get blocked by the group tab bar on the bottom which you can't make go away. This browser has also long suffered from the lack of ability to transfer bookmarks, even between Ecosia browsers on different devices. I've tried for months but will probably switch to Firefox now.
Good stuff. I really like the trees and think it has a nice design. I also appreciate the recent addition of a dark mode. I'd really like better privacy protections (like blocking fingerprinting and all that kinda stuff, and blocking cross site tracking and third party cookies and automatically clearing cookies and stuff upon exit) though. I'd also like the ability to block video autoplay. And please make it easier to download the ecosia app (not "just" a browser extension) on a computer!
I love it! Feels great to know that you're helping the planet, even if it's a tiny contribution! Love the new adblocker, it doesn't allow adding filter lists as shown in the preview screenshot tho! Please add it ASAP. One more thing, bottom URL bar is the way to go as smartphones keep getting bigger. Please add an option for that too.
I'm very happy I can use Ecosia as a standard web browsing app, but I just wish some of the features were as nice and detailed as the others. One feature I can think of that would be greatly helpful for me is if I were able to drag tabs around to reorganize them. That's something I could do on Google Chrome/Safari, and I just wish we could do that on Ecosia as well. Other than that I really appreciate Ecosia's mission in planting trees!
Just start using. The UI is a little awkward. Usable, but formatting makes it much less convenient than Google. Google brings up recommended articles, uses bigger fonts, and when displaying an article displays the info you searched for, thos does not. Biggest upside is the eco friendly aspect. Not going to be my default browser, but will use it sometimes.
I love it! The resulting search for the same exact phrase or terms are either the same or very similar in the quality info yielded. Plus no extensive amount of scrolling through ads. The phone app (Android) doesn't give me any search server errors but the search on my mac computer sometimes does. Don't know if relevant to the system, but worth mentioning. Not too often to be an issue though, just once in a while.
Love this app and its mission, I always feel safe browsing with the ad blocker option. Only suggestion I would have is to include some sort of translator service... sometimes when I'm browsing on a website and there's text in another language, I have to copy the text and paste it into my translator app, which is slightly inconvenient. Overall, a great app, and I would recommend to anyone who wants to browse safely and help out the planet in the process!
Very good browser and search engine for a very good cause. Love it, only wish it had dark mode. Since the search results are based off of bing, sometimes what your looking for isn't there right off the bat; Either way it would only take you one more tap to find what you need. Other than those 2 things, this browser is great and imo everyone should use it.
I've never had an issue with Ecosia, and it works better than Chrome (on which I've had tons of unresolved issues). I highly recommend this browser (and it's extensions on desktop). The only thing I ask is the ability to sync your counter if one uses both mobile and desktop, if possible. Overall, incredible work, and let's hit our next milestone of 1.5 million trees!
I keep getting messages that "Ecosia has stopped working" and "do you want to force quit or wait?" Not just when the browser freezes, but also sometimes when it's just lagging a bit and sometimes when it's not even open amd I'm not using it. Other than that, the browser works fine, no slower than the Chrome app with very similar functions, and I'm happy to be helping a good cause!
Issue with playing video just occurred. Tried deleting and reinstalling, but whenever I play any video (even ads), the play speed is like 4x faster than normal. If I try to go, say, half speed, it goes to half of normal speed. Other than this (and image search being very mediocre), it works completely great, and is doing a lot of good. I cannot express how happy I am with it. I'm, without paying a penny, responsible for collectively around 100 trees, which includes native trees too.
This is a review for the app, not the search engine, which I like and have used for a few years. This app isn't just a search engine; it's a whole browser. It simply doesn't have enough features to be a long-term daily driver; I'm better off just using Ecosia on my browser of choice. (I don't know how many trees I've helped plant over time, since I clear the cache from time to time. 😅) No extensions, no sync, no desktop app to sync *to*. While there's an ad blocker, there's no tracker blocker.
Gotta say I really do not like the new theme, it was much prettier when it was the lighter theme and the logo was like a planet. Next, the search options are VERY VERY limited compared to any other browser, and most often I can't find what I'm searching for. Finally, the pop-ups I get every time I open the app are a complete deal-breaker. Enough of a deal breaker that I'm uninstalling and going with another search engine.
I love using Ecosia! I am a very curious person, so whenever I'm wondering something I'm immediately compelled to research and learn more about it, which leads me look up an average of 30 things a day. Well....what better way to make a usage of those searches than to plant trees? There are no other options out there that do good for the environment for doing everyday things like searching things up. Plus, Ecosia has features that surpass other commonly used search engines. It's perfect!
