I love this app. It's where I get a majority of my patterns. I just wish it was easier on the sellers. They get bad reviews because people think (or pretend) that they're ordering a physical product. When checking out, it always asks me to verify the address where I want it to be shipped. Ordering a digital item should trigger it to confirm an email address for shipping instead. I don't know how easy that would be to do, but it would save pattern sellers a lot of headaches.
Reviews for Etsy: A Special Marketplace
← Back to Etsy: A Special MarketplaceI have noticed that some items are listed with free shipping, but I am being charged for shipping during checkout. Additionally, in certain cases, the advertised shipping costs are significantly higher at checkout than initially indicated. This inconsistency is concerning and has resulted in unexpected additional charges. Also, I am no longer able to see the applicable sales tax for each order, nor is the shipping cost itemized per shop. Completely unacceptable! What are you hiding?
The most recent update has made browsing obnoxious. The listings are huge and are no longer in a grid format. Prior to this update (& something that hasn't been fixed), is that for the items in my shopping cart, they all mistakenly say free shipping. It is only when checking out for each store that I can see the actual shipping cost. I've also noticed that for listings, sometimes the shipping rate is shown immediately below the images and other times I need to scroll further down. Inconsistent.
With the latest update to the app, pictures no longer load properly and are tiny. You can't even zoom in to see details because they are so low quality. And if you scroll through photos and then click on them to enlarge it starts back over at the first picture instead of the picture you clicked. Update: after downloading the even newer update since yesterday, I can't even log in to my account, so the app is useless.
clunky and not typically functioning properly: The app is full of problems that the website does not have but then there are problems the web cannot have as there is no access to certain things from the site but then the app never functions properly for anyway. For instance the tracking is always a problem, which is a major problem is you cannot see the tracking at all....
The app lies about the shipping being free until the last page of the order process! In the cart screen it clear states "FREE SHIPPING" then when you get to the final screen where you hit confirm purchase the shipping suddenly jumps up $30+! I don't mind a shipping fee, but don't blatantly lie, then try to sneak it in at the last second!
Even though it's a great place to shop with loads of unique items, the prices are deceptive from what is under the photo. When I find an item that I am interested in purchasing, I use the scroll down bar menu and the prices increase and with shipping prices and tax added to that, it makes the items I want too expensive for my budget.
Is there a way to see honest prices when browsing? Each time I search, I see what appear to be great prices, but when I look to add it to my cart, the cost displayed was a lie. The true cost is triple (at minimum) the displayed amount. Truthfully, because of this constant issue, I have sought my gifts and decor from other vendors who are at least honest with what I can expect to pay for their products and services. I would love to learn of similar platforms with better business practices.
The app itself is easy enough to use and navigate the problem I've noticed as the ETSY store grows as the app seems to suggest more and more of exactly the same item you are already looking at. Basically finding the item you are looking for is pretty easy if you know ahead of time exactly what you are looking for but if you are browsing for general ideas or gift the related item suggestions are pretty poor and make for a frustrating experience.
The app is fine but I wish they had a way to REMOVE a material from search results. As someone with skin sensitivities it's really frustrating that no matter what combination of search results I try; Sterling Silver will always show up. Even if I have the search results only for obscure non-metal options. Also the platform has definitely been taken over by AI brands that are just taking more rip-off amazon products and heat pressing them onto tee-shirts, and that goes completely unchecked.
Everytime this app is updated it creates a million problems I wish they would just leave it alone. Once again there's a bunch of issues after updating. My saved folders are all rearranged, items have disappeared from my sorted folders. I have hundreds of saved items in each folder and after scrolling through maybe 40, the items just keep repeating forever instead of showing me the other things I have in said folder. Also, after so many items it shows Everything to be sold out even when it's not.
This was my first time using the app, and honestly, I'm extremely dissatisfied with it. It's difficult to search for starters, and the "helpers" don't respond often enough/can't type in English apparently. I placed an or that was supposed to arrive by the end of December, and it's now mid-January. I got a message this morning saying there was an error while making my order, and it would be an extra 10 days before it ships. Now it says shipped on the same day but no tracking info. 1/10 rated app
The app wouldn't let me apply my 40% off code, I tried 3 times. On the 3rd try, I clicked the enter key, and instead of trying to apply the code, it sent my purchase through. I've spent the last 20 minutes trying to contact customer support, but when I click "contact customer support" I keep getting rerouted to the "contact the seller" page. I am furious & will be deleting the app and not using the site in the future.
There used to be a feature, where you could see all the shops you followed, and they would show you the most recent items for those shops in one area. They took that away? Why? To make it harder than it already is to find what you want to buy? Combined with the fact that the search is the worst (sort by recent? Doesn't work. Search key words? Etsy throws in 100s of unrelated results) and the app is just this awful garbage that shows you stuff you don't want to see.
I absolutely love this site and what the vendors offer, especially because most of them put their hard work and beautiful craftsmanship into every piece. You do have to be careful when ordering, the shipping costs aren't listed until checkout and the taxes are absolutely insane! you can scroll down and have it calculate your shipping costs, change your filters to only show sellers with free shipping (however the cost of goods tend to be higher to make up for it), or you can filter out countries
I like the crochet patterns they have. But the app is so confusing. You make your purchases through the app. But the instant download can't be downloaded from the app. It is supposed to be available to download from the email receipt they send to you. But on each and every pattern I have had problems downloading. When you open the app, it goes straight to sells. Not your account. And going to your purchases and reviews is total confusion. I like the patterns, but it's almost not worth it.
I love Etsy, but the shipping is expensive, just bought a simple sticker and they charge over $4.00 for shipping. It was more than the sticker! But I can't find it anywhere else and I needed it. Why not just a stamp? It would fit in a basic envelope! I don't buy alot just because of the shipping costs. But they have amazing sellers and items! I love the uniqueness of the items! Just the shipping costs makes it frustrating.
They took away any ability to sort or filter Favorited Items. Can't sort by price, date added, discount, free shipping, etc. The only thing left now is to search using keywords, and even that only applies to the item's name itself with no option to search for the store. The new 'Deals' tab is an absolute joke. If you click on any of the options it essentially sends you back to your Lists without showing the rest of the available sales. I swear, with each 'update' it feels downgraded
I don't use Etsy a lot (probably 10 times total) but the few times I have, I NEVER receive my orders without reaching out to the seller well after the supposed delivery date. I always give them extra time because I understand things happen. This is not an isolated incident, it's every time. Once I even had to reach out to Etsy as a whole because the seller flat out ignored me. I also see things being sold on here for upward of $30+ that I've seen sold at Dollar General for $4.00. Ridiculous!
In process of deleting my account and the app. 1) Their shipping fees are very expensive. Not to mention, their sellers barely get a profit. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if the two were connected. 2) Sellers buying bulk to make a profit. One of my favorite sellers has a lower customer count than one selling bootleg t shirts. There needs to be a serious background check. I would not be surprised if Etsy deletes my review. But just in case I'll screenshot it.
